Hey ppl i am located in Melbourne Australia. Drifting took of here about 1 year ago, so i have bee representing the s12 ide of things here, i have an 84 with an sr20 in it and a h190 lsd and some suspension bits. Any other drifters in here? what do you drive? what set ups do you have for the s12 characteristics?

Post up pics of any s12 drift cars

There really isn't much for drifting events in my area, so I just use big empty parking lots. :-P Why don't you post up your suspension setup. You obviously have the solid axle setup, and I'm sure there are quite a few solid axle guys wanting to know where you got your H190 LSD. Let's hear more about your car. Any pics?

I drift my S12 as well in Sydney, (I'm from Newcastle). I have a 84 SGL with a SR20DET, R200 LSD and suspension work. I run mostly S13 hardware up front, Cusco Comp S struts, S13 control arms, swaybar, tie rod ends and R31 skyline castor rods. I'm running 5 degrees camber and 7 degrees of castor on the front. The rear has 260lb springs and koni red shocks but it really needs harder springs.
The S12 is pretty closely related to the S13 so stuff that works for the S13 should work for it to i'd guess.
There should be a short vid of me and FLY PSI's drift (lack) of skills soon hehe. We like to drift but i can't say we are good yet haha.
My car has only been on the road since march but so far it feels like a pretty easy car to drift (now that i have done some suspension setup) and should be good for the future when i get some skills.

What sort of LSD do you have in the H190? A nismo or somthing? You are lucky i havn't seen many of them going around (one ever actually) so went with the IRS setup. Have you had any durability problems with the 4 link mounts (a common spot to start tearing the floor apart on S12s and 910s with more power than stock).

There are plenty of pics in another thread so here is just my fave cos i like showing off :P

yeah i have a nismo centre for my h190 its an ex-nissan works rally diff, very good for drift, suspension wise i just have konis and king springs, i am looking at upgraduing the springrates on the rear and i am getting a rear sway bar soon, i have ajustable castor made from XF falcom castor bars.

What is required to put S13 front struts in my car i have been wantin to do this for ages but i dont know what is required. can you use an s13 hub and then bolts on the gtr brakes too??? send me some pics so i can see what is required.

if you drift your car in sydney you should come to melbourne for the banzai battle at calder on the 12th of december, 2 s12's battling each other would be really cool!

chrisevans1985date not saved · #5

in terms of the 4 link rear i havent really had any problems i have upgraded to a nolathane bush kit for the rear, and i am looking at getting a rahnard rod to stop the movement, i need to do the sums on that first. but yes you do have to be careful with the 4 link rear. dont know about tearing the floor? but time will tell.

My Cardomain has my brake and coilover setup up front. Also my engine bay.

You got any pics chrisevans1985?

nice car, leaving some kick ass tire smoke in the photos, i dont have any pics of my car but its an 84 aus spec coupe, i put some skyline TL wheels on it but im looking for some SSR longreach wheels, i borrowedn some of a friend and they looked kick ass on my car

As far as the coilover upgrade goes it's pretty simple, you need the S13 coilover, the S13 hubs/knuckles, and bolt them to the S12 control arms. The tie rod ends need to be slightly shortened S13 items (extend the thread and screw them down shorter) bolted to the S12 rack. The only reason i have gone further than that is that i had my S12 ball joints give out and had a pair of good S13 arms (longer than S12). Putting them in involved swapping to the S13 swaybar and R31 skyline castor rods (all bolt in) which i shortened about 16mm (i did the same with my S12 rods to, castor is good).
As for the mount tearing just keep an eye on the left lower bracket on the 4 link, thats the one that tears on 910s, the S12 is almost the same setup tho so it'll do similar if abused enough.
Is your S12 a blue non turbo SR by any chance? One that was for sale a few months ago?

chrisevans1985date not saved · #9

yeh it is i ran into a few moey issues a little while back but i am sweet now so i can drift it again

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #10

Cool so you built it and you don't have to sell it now? Nice.
Get some pics i saw you trying to sell it on toymods back a bit. Also if you aren't already on it check out www.initialdrift.com.au, mostly NSW stuff but it's supposed to be oz wide so it'll grow out i imagine.

hey man,

i am a melbourne S12 owner, about to dump a CA18DET into my gazelle. Where u at?? we should meet up, get a few of the other S12 drivers around here to come, have a lil meet.

Drifting around here is big (u prob know) but $100 to enter calder park drift nights is a bit steep for the n00bs (myself included).

Once ma engine is in and running, we should hit the industrial areas round here, no cop trouble yet....speak to alex from garage-13.com, he's into it heaps and they apparently go sideways alot on public roads :-) he's prob the block to organise a little drift/cruise.

anyways, PM me and we'll meet up or somthin. If you got msn, add me,

catch ya man!

im also from Newcastle and attend drift days with Neb, my car is an SR20DET powered S12 coupe with S13 coilovers and R33 4spot brakes. mine is solid axel tho, and its still an open diff :-x so that might explain my lack of skills. Nismo dont make H190 LSD's anymore :wall: so it looks like i will be doing an IRS swap aswell.

Yeah i drift my S12 SE but need an LSD baddly. I have still not gotten the practice i need to even be a respectable drifter. (no big empty lots here..)
But i deffiantly have enough torque and my new clutch has deffiantly got the grip to spin the wheels when ever i want.

But i live in the florida keys and that not exactly the drift capital of america. I do have a few friends with s13's that are into drifting though and we ride out sometimes tring to find good spots none found so far.

akinaspeedstarsdate not saved · #14

you're right. my SE doesn't have lsd either, but i can still perform sliding the rear end long enough to what is known as drifting.

i use to slide around at a abandon SAVEMART super market parking lot, and you know how big those parking lot are.

now there are too many police around, and i kinda stop going there.

beside play it SAFE and get GLOVES and HELMET before you do any sliding.

iliRandyilidate not saved · #15

I like to do freeway on ramps (sweeping corners) and hair pins. Here in Washington it's kinda stupid to drift in parking lots. Too mutch activity. cops, people we don't have any empty parking lots. But industrial parks are the best places in my opinion. There are lots of sweeping corners, really wide 90's and you could find a few good hair pins in any industrial park. Due to the semi trucks, don't have a good turn radius.

oldschoolsilviadate not saved · #16

Their isnt really any places to drift around here, just on some roads out by my High School except its in a new subdivision and there are houses being built and some are already there I will do it until I get caught.....

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #17

No one has track days in their areas? Aussie cops are way overzealous when chasing down hoons even if they are in an area where they aren't causing any trouble like out in some industrial area in the middle of night. As a result i don't street drift (not many places to go anyways) and just go to track days (only 2 so far but it's soooooo cool)

Pauldate not saved · #18

well the only track down here is an abandoned subdivison that they open up here only once a year for the baybottom crawl. thats it. Though there are alot of back roads we have ****ing key deer and they love just running infront of cars on blind corners.... I love those little guys . As a consequence there are alot of roads that are driftable but i dont since... well i have already hit one.

Man, I guess I'm pretty lucky then. We have practice drift days up in VA once a month, I haven't made it there yet, but I plan on going. Only problem is I don't know how well they would welcome a T/A with all the imports...

In a perfect world everybody would be accepted, but this is reality, and I hope that this group is accepting anybody. Hell there is a new GTO in the D1 comps, and might I say that it is nice to see (even though it looks like a 2-door Grand Am)...

Leave it to GM to put a 350hp rwd setup in a dated shell...:|

Look out guys I think he's bagging the Monaro! :lynch: Come on man that'a the best Holden could do ;)

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #22

Hehe yeah it's only american as far as the engine and name is concerned, but meh it's only a monaro so who cares if you bag it :)
There has been a few around here go down to the S12 as well as one SS Commodore (the 4 door version) go down to FLY PSI, hehe owners of 250+ kw cars don't like being beaten by unknowns.
