I need some sheet metal for a project I am working on... it needs to be 70x30", and (if in stainless steel) 12 ga., or up to 1/8 " thick if I use aluminum. I want to know what I should expect to pay for that.
If I can get it, I can finish my project for my Z, and then adapt the design to the S12. It's an adjustable race-spec front airdam that will let you raise it for street and drop it down for racetracks. I don't know if any of you will be interested in one but my cars will both have them.
If I can find the sheet!
Need sheet metal anyone know about that stuff?

Try Home Depot, or Lowe's...........they sell sheets of sheet metal, not sure of the gauge though
Home Depot pieces are too small, I need 66x24"
you're probably best to go to an actual steel supplier. check your yellowpages and see if there's anyone who'll sell commercially. for a stainless sheet in that size, it'll be fairly pricey.
go to a recyling plant that you can take your pop can too.. that kind of place will more then likely have sheet laying around that you pay for by the lb.. thats where i got a bunch of alum sheet for $1.10 lb.. and s/s runs me
$1.30
thats your best bet...
At work we stock 4'x12' sheets of aluminum at 1/8" thick. We cant sell them as whole pieces due to the fact they are for special trailers but if I can find a sheet that has been cut I could send you a piece the size you need for pretty cheap, like 50 or 60 bucks because once they are cut we cant use them anymore. Its special treated aluminum so its tough as nails and its powdercoated white on one side. I go back to work on sunday so I'll check then and let you know.
I love you.
LOL.
Seriously tho if you find me a 66x24" piece I'm in heaven.
What's this for?
haha I no tellie tellie you now, till I finish what I makie makie. If it workie workie, then you can buy one from me
If you go the route of surplus, be aware there are a lot of different alloys of both stainless steel and aluminum. Some of it is a bear to drill, bend, machine, and weld, other is like working with butter. Some is quite susceptible to corrosion.
Mcmaster Carr as mentioned previously is typically 5-10X higher than regular suppliers, but shipping is dirt cheap, and delivery is next day, unlike a metal supplier who will charge a premium unless they drop it off on their regularly scheduled routes. Mcmaster does have some great charts showing the alloys and specs on their website.
For sheetmetal work, its hard to beat the info and great help from the guys on metalmeet. http://www.metalmeet.com/

Good news, we have a sheet of aluminum at work here that measures 36x78 and the boss says that you can have it our cost which is 180 bucks but I dont know how much shipping will be. I called van kam and they are going to get back to me so I'll let you know.
Okay I have some bad news now, It would cost about 200 bucks to ship it to L.A. so it would probably be cheaper for you to find it there. Sorry but I should have told you I live in Canada, Eh?
whups lol
It's fine, I'm gonna have to put my project on hold for a month anyways. I can't say why. I'd have to kill you all if I told you :)
