Hello guys,
I just thought I would share the fact that I just got a set of 195/50R15's and am now almost too low for my own good. I wanted to get a set of smaller tires to use on my Z31 (20offset) wheels. The 205/60 and 215/60 were rubbing way too much. I was originally looking for 205/55 but got a deal too good to pass up ($45 for all 4). I was a little worried about how the car would handle w/ the smaller tires and larger offset but its actually handled very nicely. The only problem I have come across is that now w/ the smaller tires and lowering springs my Y pipe is only 2 1/2in off the ground. The main front frame rails are only 4in off the ground. I'm also having problems w/ my front tow hooks when I back up. *shrugs* In the future I plan on only using then in the front, possibly on the rear for track use. W/ all the highway I have to drive its just too small. I'm sitting at 4000RPM for 80MPH. Its just making me burn too much gas on highway but the around town acceleration is awsome. I have been using 215/55R16 for rears for the last couple months but they've slowed my car a little more than I would like but I have been getting GREAT gas milage. =) I think my next set of rears will be either 205/55 or 205/60 for the best mix of acceleration and highway. Ok, well I'll stop rambling... I just thought some one might find this info usefull.

Front tow hooks? What problem are you having with those? It sounds like your suspension is too soft to be that low. Did you cut the springs? I'm just a tad lower than you, but have fairly stiff springs. I run 205/60/15's on the street, mostly for the added suspension that a 60 series tire gives, but also for a little more clearance over street obstacles. With my 50 series autocross tires on, I have a hard time over some speed bumps, but if you take them at an angle, it's not too bad. I've rerouted my y-pipe since it sits in the most retarded place you could possibly put it from the factory. Whoever designed the crossover to happen right under the bellhousing of the tranny is a moron. That makes it the lowest part of the car. My y-pipe now crosses over near the tailshaft of the tranny, which brough it up about 1.5 inches.

tow hooks... or I gues I should say loops. In the front of the car there is one coming down from both frame rails. *shrugs* Ya, when ever I come home and go to pull into the drive way they grind before the wheels go up the bump. They are a little less than 4in off the ground. For lowering I have the ST 280ZX front springs and the before mentioned tires. They are ok, I wouldn't call them soft, but I do have a set of coil overs w/ 250lb/in springs on the way. I would never cut or heat springs...

Yah, I have the tow hooks too, but rarely do I ever scrape them. Just make sure you go into your driveway at an angle. If you hit it straight on, expect to scrape. There's a certain technique to driving lowered cars, especially up driveways and speedbumps.
