What speakers do you guys use in the rear?, the standard speakers or something else? And what speakers can be fitted? 6x9?

I have a S12 CA18ET -88 hatchback.

6x9's can be made to fit, but the stockers aint 6x9, i'll tell you that much.

stocks are 6.5" midbass speakers with 2" tweeters

actually not bad for a car of our status and age. HOPEFULLY...I'll be upgrading to Cadence ZX6 tho..

Depends, my 84 came w/o tweeters but still the midrange. Ive mounted kenwood (got em for free) 6x9's below where the two brackets for the 6.5 and tweeter used to be..Its pretty .If anyone is interested i can send fotos etc..

Mine being a base model didn't have tweeter in the back, but what was there is stock Clarion...I now have Sony's mounted on top of the grates...to be honest for being Princess Auto specials they are actually half descent...

I have a pair of pioneer 5inchers and i also have a set of 3by5s that are oval like that i have drilled holes for, they are 2 way pyle drivers. the pyles are 120 watt and the pioneers are 100 watt. I have not decided which ones I want back there. In the front I have clairon 4inch 2 way speakers.

bubbaboostdate not saved · #9

My bad the front speakers are 5 1/4

Jmac279date not saved · #10

Pioneer makes much better than Pyle of Shit ...

FjSXdate not saved · #11

I put a set of 6X9 Pioneers in the back and 6.5 in the front with a Clairon head unit. I am customizing a 8" sub in the hatch off a Jensen Mono sub amp.

Has Anyone tried to put 6x9's in the rear pockets yet?

Indecisivedate not saved · #13

I have them.

easy to get in

just needed to make some wooden speaker baffles to mount them.

I'd show pics but I don't have a digi cam.

but yea..not hard at all. plywood, a drill, a dremel, and sandpaper/sanding drums and you can make them up.

Rear speakers = t3h gh3y :)

6x9s suck butt,
Terrible sound quality. If you actually want your system to sound good, buy some good 6" speakers or - if you can afford it - some good splits. Before you ask, yes I do mean in the front AND the back.
If mindless bass is what you're after then go ahead and spend your money on crap, if you actually want a system that sounds good then STEER CLEAR OF SIX BY NINES.

Indecisivedate not saved · #16

I would agree 100%....

I'm using 6x9 cause I took them out of our parts car and they sound clearer than the stock units I had ahhahaha these can't even come close to some good focal component speakers tho heh. BUT yay for free stuff.

Fazmodate not saved · #17

Free stuff ...fair enough!!!
I bought an FSw57C transmission from an S13 Silvia and got a free CA18DE with low kilometres in good running condition (with cold air induction, custom extractors and increased compression ratio). Free stuff is good.

Jmac279date not saved · #18

There are some pretty decent 6x9s out there, although most people buy 6x9s for bass ... Not sure why since 6x9s suck at producing bass ...

"Well, I could put an extra $100 into a better sub, another sub, a higher quality enclosure, a better amplifier, a more powerful amplifier, a better battery, a high-output alternator, or better front speakers, but I think I'm going to buy 6x9s instead."

In my opinion, rear speakers should be much further down on the priority list than most people put them. If you've ever been to an IASCA sound quality competition, you'd know that you don't even need rear speakers to sound good. The majority of IASCA SQ competitors don't use rear speakers.

Kinda off topic, but still a really nice find!! 8)

Here here. Why hasn't anybody else said that yet?
I have a fairly average Panasonic headunit with an Alpine 4x amp with two channels bridged into a 10" Pioneer sub and the other two channels going into my Blaupunkt Overdrive 5 1/2" splits. Sounds awesome and I don't have rears.
I might get some sooner or later, probably some Blaupunkt or Clarion 6" but not until I get a nice two channel for my sub and can run all four speakers off the Alpine. To be honest I think upgrading my sub is of higher priority, it may be a sub but I still want some decent sound quality out of it.

LOL :) You have to keep it old school. Everyone in the 80's put 6x9's in their cars. In a box in the rear window.:)

what about some 7-inch speakers?
