Alrighty people. Here is the deal, the new board is all nice and the like, but the bottom line is this: in life there are no free lunches. The board is costing dan $50/month to host and he is footing the bill all himself. We need to deciede on a course of action soon if we want the board to have anykind of longetivity. Now dan can say that he will continue to front the bill like he has for a few years now, but it is not fair for as much as we use it, not to mention one of these days the visa bill is going to catch up with the man.
Bottom line is this, we need money. Whether we use donations, sponsorships, it needs to happen and it needs to start happening soon. I think sponsors will be the end-solution but in the now we really should start up a donation bank. Dan will post with details on how to paypal him the the money. We will also have some sort of rewards program for those that donate, what do you guys want? We were talking about perhaps raffling off parts, etc. Which may happen in the future, what other ideas do you have?
I know we have talked about this on the other board and nothing really came about from it. Hence I am bring it up again. It needs to be discussed and resolved if we want to keep the board in the long term. We need $600 / year to take it completely off dan's shoulders. Lets make it happen.
All ideas are welcome, if you have the ability to type and have an idea. POST.

We need money READ ME
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Jul 2004" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
well looking at how many members we have.. which i believe is at like over 1000 now.. if everyone just sent $1 that'd cover the $600,..
i can honestly say that i wouldnt mind giving like an annual fee of like $1 or $2.. b/c if all 1000 of those members paid that little amount then everything would be covered.. and then like with the left over money everyone who pays could get like club-S12 banners, stickers, keychains or shirts or who knows what.. ya know
idk.. thats my idea
Do we really have over 1000 active posters? Seemed like the core posters were only a small handful.
With such a large membership base though, a 1 or 2 dollar donation / membership fee does seem like a doable solution that should keep us going strong for a long time (*in theory*).
How that would work though. How would you enforce a membership fee? Lock out non members from reading the content & posting? I'm not sure if that would be such a good thing to do. I think having such an open community has been helpful, and has helped alot of us find this resource early on in our s12 project life.
I'm ashamed to say I haven't sent in a donation yet, but I think it really is something we should all do. If only a handful do, instead of all, it would mean each person has to chip in more, so I think an incentive to do so would be to have some s12 merchandise. But I don't think it would raise enough funds if it's something that's being sold at a reasonable price, like a store.
That sounds bad, but I guess what I'm saying is like, for instance with the rear window decal idea on the old board, trying to sell the stickers for $1 above cost really wouldn't have raised too much cash. But it might be enough incentive to get some of us hardcore members off our asses and chip in a good donation. (Like with a PBS fund raiser where $100 gets you a vhs of the show you're watching.. but less extreme). Personally, if i know I would get a club-s12.org window decal and a Nissan Silvia replica rear decal, I wouldn't really have a problem donating an extra chunk above the cost since I know the money's going to keep the club going. Basically, I'd let club-s12 have a large profit margin at my expense. It'd be more like a bonus, or reward (rather than store purchase) for doing what we should be doing anyway..
Some kind of rewards system could make donating seem more glamourous.
A kind of parts store would be great if there was some way club-s12 could get a massive wholesale discount from a supplier.. not so that we can pay cheaper than retail, but so that we could pay retail to club-s12. We'd pay what we'd be paying otherwise, but club-s12 gets to make a little bit of profit. I don't know if it's possible, but could the club obtain routine maintenance parts that we all need periodically? Like spark plugs, filters, etc? Then it'd be like one stop shopping.. we'd know it'd fit, it'd work great in our cars, and we'd pay about what we'd pay elsewhere, but the club picks up some change.
What about members who aren't located within the content of US? Personally I'd be quite happy to chuck a couple of buck in this forums direction, but how are we gonna pay? And then you got the whole currency conversion thing happening too.
We all get info and entertainment from this place, so whats wrong with showing some appreciation by donating a wee bit? Ahhh, that would be the word "donating", cause I guess people haven't been brought up to be generous, even if the person who set this place up has to coff up the cash to keep it alive. Pull your finger out, and sacrifice one burger and fries you'd normally eat for the S12 cause!
However, now that I've gotten of my high horse, I think the S12 decal is a great idea... kinda like when you buy a 50c pen for $4 to support cancer research.
PS - What decals were there? any small ones designed for the rear side windows for the liftback?

The sticker talk on the old board was for one of the designs I made.. it's still uploaded at:
http://www.tehcool.net/s12/imgs/urlsticker/
Don't remember which one.. number 6 I think maybe..
I designed these with the rear quarter window in mind. Fits nicely on those windows.
Mimms was going to print some up, but then he jumped ship
I would suggest that if you are donating to donate a minimum of $5. Then we would only need 120 donations to make the yearly dues. I think that is pretty do-able by the core posters. Some of us that have been more involved could give more, and it would be on a person to person basis to deciede how much to give, but I think we should all try to give alittle in order to keep the board up. I hope to have my donation in by the end of the week if I can.
aussie_gazelle is right with people that live outside U.S, considering its a world wide club now.
The rear decals is a good idea but I cant see it helping the cash flow for the club, basically its a short term answer and then we are back here again :( .
The only way around this that I can see is to hit up some car equipment stores to see if they will sponsor the club and also try and getting a discount for the club for advertising on the site. The club store is a good idea cause if the club can get a few wholesale/trade prices from compainies and charge less than retail, there will be a few sales through that and the proceeds go to the club, but the problem is find compainies with parts for the S12 that will do that
These are all tereffic ideas guys. I think that we need to donat whatever we can, those of you who donate more maybe recieve cooler stuff or something. But what I know for sure, this forum needs to stay up. we have kinda been greedy and took this for granted. I know, I did. I didnt know how much it was until Jeff told us. I think almost all of us cant do without this forum. I sure as HELL cant, because of all the useful info and we need this stuff. I will definately donate at least $10. More If I can spare it. Even though it may seem we dont get alot from this, but think awhile. We have been way too greedy. Come on, donate, show that you want to keep this wonderful place operational.
well I'll be buying some parts off dan and I'll be chipping in an extra $10 or $20 for a donation to the forums.
can't see my internet "life" w/o club-s12
if someone can PM me an email addy for PAYPAL, ill gladly donate my share today. I owe you all somehow for your info and time, so its my time to give something back.
We touched on this before, but it seemed to fizzle out.
What we need to do is tap into existing resources from members.
I was thinking about this again last night ... and besides realizing how useless a 26-year old man is without a credit card ... we need some ways beyond strongarming.
What I was thinking ... most of us have jobs of some kind or other. In those jobs, invitably you can get free or cheap stuff. Doesn't even have to be car related, or work related, could be shit you have lying around that you can do without.
Then we start (or just sticky in the coffee shop) an S12 raffle, every month.
Keep the "ticket" cost to $1. You paypal Dan $1, and you get a ticket or something ... even if we just keep a list with everyone that bought a ticket or ticket(s). At the end of the month (or alloted time frame) someone (I'll do it)
prints the names off the list in whatever quantity they bought tickets.
For example ... I can get a personalized picture of some random toddy that we have. Basically if you win the raffle, you get an 8x10 of some hotness with a message to you from her.
Costs me nothing more than a harassing phone call, or whoever happens to be around.
So everyone jumps at the opportunity, Mimms, overcome by the need for such hotness sells the Rolla, rejoins ...
Geoff buys 5 tickets
Mimms 5
Alex 3
Tom 3
Dick 3
Harry 3
So into a hat goes Geoff's name 5 times, Mimms 5, etc etc
so there's 22$ into the pot ... we draw a name, it's Geoff
So Geoff gets a picture of hotness autographed with some kind of "Dear Geoff, my what a big camshaft you have" message.
Not that I could do it every month, but at least once.
Or some of you guys that are making parts, eat the cost of making something - stickers, MAF adapter ... etc. Same deal. Keep the parts small so shipping will be a couple bucks at most, or have the winner eat the shipping cost on heavier items.
Or if you're like me and have at least 3 spare everythings, donate one to the club. Then we can raffle off a turbo valvetrain or whatever.
Just a thought
Yah I could see wht I have lying around here, and I would definately buy the tickets...8)
However I am also down for making donations every month...it's a small price to pay to keep the up...8)
hahahahaha  666 baby...ahahaha
matt, a great idea. I have a few raffle ideas already. I hope we can get something going with this. I'll write up a few ideas of mine in the mod forum.
well I'll be buying some parts off dan and I'll be chipping in an extra $10 or $20 for a donation to the forums.
BTW, parts are off the car. Just need to find some bubble wrap or something to get them ready.
muahhah good stuff.
parts from mimms car this week...parts from your car by the end of the month I hope....*drools*...
Indy's RPS12~RD MK.1.2 lol
I think that's too long of a name..ahhaha
I'd be willing to donate a little money once I get working again ... $5 goes a long ways and it's less than 1/1000th of my people's annual incomes :p
alrighty guys, raffle idea is going to be up and running soon.
first raffle item will be a KA24E throttle body ported by yours truely. I have seen the same TB untouched go for $50 in the for sale section and I usually charge around $25 for a S2 port job on a TB. As I said, this is my standard stage2 port, started with a grinding stone on a air-die grinder to widen the entire throttle body up to the throttle plate. Then I used a rough 1" sanding drum to smooth the port, then detailed the port with a light drum and the dremel. The final touch was a buffing wheel on the dremel. This TB is really one of the best I have done in awhile and I hope someone finds a nice home for it. The raffle tickets will be $1 (but you can buy as many tickets as you wish) and as everyone knows this TB bolts right up to any trim S12. We hope to get the raffle up and running here in the next week or so, hope alot of people participate. Stay tuned to the Coffee Shop for the raffle thread (it will be stickied) for more details.
Here is a teaser:

I was going to use all the profits from selling the fast system to donate to the board. but the 5 copies i sold barely paid for blank cd's and cases. I figured it out if i sell each copy for $15 the club would get around $10-$12 of that depending on shipping. I am still open for this and i think it could possibly make some money for the club now that i have supplies covered. and if you guys want to raffle some parts let me know i should have a few availible after i get everything right on my 84. also i am pretty good friends with a guy that owns a junkyard. i'll see if i can get some ka24 throttle bodies and send them to you to raffle off.
Is this all gonna be by paypal... or could I do a bank check or money order? I could use a new tb :-P . Anyway I'm gonna win! I may be able to give you some used stuff as I replace them
i will help donate some of the parts too that I have in my garage. Everything will meet or exceed OEM quality :P just playin. ill let you all know.
i got my donation going in. DO YOUR PART ! :lick:
as far as the donations themselves go, dan will accept all donations, not me. The raffle will start shortly, probably by the end of the weekend, so just hang on if you want to spend your $$ on that. Dan will have to chime in for the personal check and/or money order issue. The problem being that the raffle will be fairly short term (2-3 weeks an item is the idea) and I imagine you will not be eligible before Dan has the $$ in his hand. So if you send a check, send it early and be sure you mark "RAFFLE" in the memo section. Same thing goes for paypal if you wish to use your $$ for the raffle tickets. Make sure the description mentions the raffle. $1 a ticket, and it will start here in the next day or so when I can talk to dan and make sure we are ready to rock and roll with it. Keep your eyes on the Coffee Shop.
I will also offer to port anyone's TB with the S2 port job for $35 shipped with $5 going to the club for each TB. PM me if you are interested. If there is alot of interest I will also offer a lesser port job for less $$, but for $35 it really is a damn good deal and good for the club. If you guys see one of my TBs in person, I'm sure it will sell itself. The port is pretty damn nice if I do say so myself.
Anyway, to stay on task; raffle will start hopefully by the end of the week. ALL MONEY SHOULD BE SENT TO DAN VIA PAYPAL, ETC WITH CLEAR NOTICE THAT THE MONEY IS FOR THE RAFFLE. The rest of the mods and myself are working out the rest of the details. Keep posted, it should be happening around the end of the week and should run for about 2 weeks before we draw the winner.
(all the names will be printed, then cut into squares and put in a hat. Then a name will be drawn and announced.)
Start counting your pennies now.
I know few people care about car audio here, but I normally charge for custom-designed enclosures ... I could offer a custom enclosure design every month to the runner-up of the raffle ...
Also, I think we should hold a raffle once a month, with the same draw date every month ...
let's also raffle some copies of fast
ok, PM me and we'll talk about how to raffle off some copies of the FAST program. I'll need a complete description of what FAST is. Also, are the copies legit? We can't really make a buck off pirated software.
I like the once a month idea as well. Agreed, once a month sounds like a plan.
Jeff is the Purdue Porting Pimp. I have seen his P&P work, and whoever gets this TB is a lucky boy.
Monthly is good, it'll give enough time for people to get their payments in, especially if they have to send it snail mail.
And Jmac, that would be awesome if you'd be willing to do that. I don't know the first thing about car audio, but put "custom" in front of anything, and I'll want it.
I think maybe we should also have a second stickied post that's controlled by a mod where we try and have a picture of the past raffle winners with their prizes.
raffle thread is up in coffee shop. Have a shot at the TB, its a really nice piece. I'm sure whoever ends up with it will be happy. $1/ticket you can't go wrong!
hit it up!
