So as well as working on Matt's hood we also decided to install the new tach that I had for my car. Because the original doesn't work we decided to first look to see if we could see the problem. Well disconnecting the signal wire, and hooking it to the new tach revealed that the tach that came with the car from the factory was not working properly. So instead of taking the dash apart to try and figure out what is wrong with the original, we decided it would be easier, and better looking to put the new tachometer in instead.
We quickly found out that there is no real easy to see good place to put the tach, but we managed, and the end result is awesome to say the least.

Here is the tach after installation...it is really easy to see, and obstructs no vision.

This was taken the same night,

And finally a surprise to us. We didn't realise that the guage was indiglo until night, and it is so easy to see. Thanks Matt, and Dan for the help in the installation, I couldn't have done it without you guys.
Also to anyone wanting to install an aftermarket tach, there were four wires on it. Black, Green, Red, and White
Black goes to ground, Green goes to the primary coil signal wire, it is the third wire with a clip on the MKII's and I believe it is the same on the Turbo MKI's, and I believe on the distributer on MKI N/A's. Red is going to be positive, and we put it with the Fuel pump fuse, and White is for the indiglo, we put this on with the power antenna fuse.
It works as goo as it looks, and the hardest part of the install was deciding where to put it. 8)

I can see the Rev's...and I like it ;)

Looks awesome, the only thing that would bother me is looking at the dash and seeing my tach not move!!
Love the indiglo!
one thing about the ausie right hand drive.... tacho's of anysize fit perfectly between the dash and the A-beam (me thinks, u know, the big bit next to the door..) damn i need to learn more about cars...
The real un nerving part was before I had a tach. I would pull up to a light, and sometimes I would have to turn the sterio down just because you could hardly hear the engine...thank god I can now see for sure. 8)
LOL. Princess Auto Tach!! :werd: I really hope you picked it up at the sale price. I think they're like $44.44 right now or something.
Regular price is about 70 bucks, but I picked it up for about 25 or 30 with tax...they had it marked wrong...I love it 8)
you serious on the prices? For the glowing auto-meter ones they go for 250+ here... i have to be missing something.
Princess Auto - 99.9% of the stuff you'd never need.
BUT ... when you find that .01% hoo-boy it's on sale.
Everything is silly cheap. I bought E brake cables for $2.99 each.
Those tachs, yeah ... cheap cheap. All guages (boost/oil/ trios) are cheap.
Tools are cheap too. I find myself going every week just to see what's new.
Like the $3 chip for GM V8s. It's one of those ... meh, can't remember the name, but basically a piggyback device.
Hmm ... maybe I'll go tonight.
The Mr.Gasket performance chips in Surplus? Yeah. They're all for 305 Carbed engines and Fiero's mostly. :gay:
They've cut all ties with Jepson there, so now all their stuff is heavily discounted. Jepson tools are so nice, I just wish I had the money.
