Well, if any of you remember ... I started doing a fixed headlight thing, very slow moving. I finally got off my ass (totally thanks to Alex for making that happen.) and got it pretty much finished. So, rather than link to the other post, I'm going to start a new one here.

What I started with

An 87 MKII S12

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/uglier.jpg

Gutted the "no worky" pop ups

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/oneeye.jpg

Welded in the buckets from a Sunbird, with bulbs.

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/closeup.jpg

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/gettit.jpg

these were just a first attempt, they're a lot straighter now ;)

Then the hood ...

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/hole.jpg

Go away you nasty hole

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/D.jpg

As if mastery of the Arc wasn't enough, D left alone with the hood decides to go "custom"

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/lilscoop.jpg

Looks good on the grass ...

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/hooddone.jpg

How about on the car? I think so ...

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/2dark.jpg

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/almost.jpg

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/noraisin.jpg

http://img75.photobucket.com/albums/v228/mr200/200sx/soclose.jpg

It's not even remotely finished. Now it's time for filler, and to actually mold the scoop, but hey ... closer than I was ;)

i got that same welder. Got a 75/25 argon/co2 bottle attached though. Makes welding SOOOOOOOOOO much easier and 100x cleaner. But thats super man. Those headlights look great and I bet if you paint the grille black also, it would look good too. Keep us updated with some pics. Another "origional" s12 added to the list.

that grille is being tossed. Man, stupid me buying APC shit and paying way too much for it. What a crappy lattice! It bends itself out of shape in even a light breeze. Plus it cost me $40!! They sell the same shit in a heavier gauge for $10. That's what we used for the scoop and will be buying more to do a proper grille. Important part is I made it work, now I get to make it pretty ;)

Very nice, that looks badass:headbang: Wait til I get a digi-cam, mine is almost finished as well.

The pictures don't give it justice. The hood looks great, and we didn't even get hurt. (Except for my hand, stupid tach, at least I can see the revs now). Also matt, if we take the hood off again, and need to transport it, lets use the Fury, the Daytona "wiggles a lot with the hatch open". Also the tach is still working...8) thanks man...8)

For your grill you need to weld up some sort of frame that fits along the headlight lines. Then insert the mesh in behind that. I think it would look much better. Then you also need to weld up some sort of collector under the hood that will scoop the air right onto your filter. I wasnt a fan of the no pop up idea until I saw that scoop. That would be really functional, and beats taking the headlight out every time I go to the track.

Dude, it looks great... is there anyway u can somehow get the silvia grill and fit it? the s13 grill will look badass and it says silvia on it.

Mr.200date not saved · #9

heh, if someone wants to get me one, I'll make it fit.

I bought that ricerific grille mesh, and hate it. So I'm going to make a proper frame to follow the contour of the front end better.

Next round of pics should have the CSX front end at least mocked into place with a good looking grille.

I'm going to bend and pop rivet a piece of aluminum onto the rad support with a small piece of weather stripping, open up that hole where the headlight used to go, and box the entire cone filter area of the underhood in aluminum too, so that when the hood is shut, it will be completely contained. I'm also making a chin spoiler that will duct up to underneath the headlight area.

It's cool being able to hear your intake that well ... sounds great through the hood.

wow matt, it actually looks good... its got a silvia look going on, I actually *ahem* like it, i swear. Just when you do the grille again, IMO it would look alot nicer if you brought it out just as far as the lights, to make it all flush, just a suggestion, but I bet you were planning on doing something like that anyways :D, good stuff man, buying the silvia grille would be a little on the expensive side (and for cosmetics? comon...) find a pic of it and have D make it out of Fibreglass?

Looks really really good.

Oh ... my god ... Arif likes it, he really likes it ... ;)

Yeah the grille I have in mind will be flush with the lights, as OEM-looking as possible. I'd never pay money to make it more JDM. The APC stuff was too flimsy to contour, it either folded or sprung back into shape. But yes, I will make a grille surround out of fiberglass or metal, and affix the grill inside that, instead of just stuffing some crappy mesh in and bending it so it doesn't scrape the headlight *lol*

oh shit i love the grill on the right pop up. You think it will enhance intake very much? looks awesome anyhow.

Indecisivedate not saved · #13

headlight intakes are the shiznits...

if I can get a spare cover I WILL try and make one ;)

Yah that was a complete spur of the moment thing. Thank god Dan is a body man. ;) Yah it was done with a grinder, a cut off wheel, and a dremel to do the final smoothing. The grill was 7-8 bucks from Crappy Tire around the metal rod section (I believe around the plumbing section). 8)
