I did alot of searching on this subject and I did not find much. I have a 1984 200sx with a digital display that quit working. Well I also have a parts car that had a analog cluster. With the factory service manual, you can switch these clusters out. You have to switch the speedometer cable and re-route the wiring harnesses that connect to the cluster (the digital cluster harnesses are on opposite sides than the analog cluster). Before you start this project make sure of a couple of things:
1) When you cut the harnesses off the analog cluster, make sure you cut them pretty long and it is best to label them following the FSM before you try to wire them
2) BEFORE you cut the harnesses for the digital cluster MAKE SURE that you label the wires
There are going to be two seperate sets of wiring to do: At the bottom of the page that displays the clusters, you will see a little wiring diagram for headlights, brake light, etc. These are about the same on both clusters. BUT on the digital cluster, alot of the wires that run to the power control unit and computers on the back of the digital unit have no color listed. The easiest way that I found to get the wire color and what the wires control from digital to analog was to follow the SMJ wiring graphic that is listed on the cluster pages. The SMJ wires will have the same connector letter (i.e. B2, B0, on so on) Once you have this all down, just wire and crimp. You will have wires left over, just over look them. The digital dash has more wires than the analog. Just count your number of wires on the analog harness (which i think is 32) and that will be all the wires that are needed.
My advise is to start on this project over a weekend. Take the FSM, write down all the wire colors that you need to wire in and then start wiring.
