T25 / T28 / T3 ???

I;ve got a freshly rebuilt T28 which I was going to use on my silvia but being a daily driver car, I've decided against using it (too big for my app)

so have settled on using a T3 turbo off of the RB20DET (Ballbearing, ceramic turbine wheel type)

anyone else had any experience using a GTir T28 or T3 (with what a/r's?)

cheers
Adam

I've got a 60 Series T3 here that I plan on installing. I just have to figure out a new manifold design first.

i got the T25G turbo off the Blacktop SR20DET in S13's from Japan. JDM

mine's a t25 either from a 300ZX or JDM silvia I am not sure though.

i've been looking for t25g's round, have found a couple

what a/r's you running on your T25g? got a possiblity of getting one from an sr20det but with a t25 (0.48 a/r exh housing) instead of the 0.6? housing which is std?

the T3's have been recommended to me by my turbo guru, good for up to a bar anyway with the ceramic turbine wheel

research shows that the ball-bearing upped efficiency by 40% over std t3's, and the ceramic turbine wheel also raised efficiency by approx 40% with a much lower inertia etc

sounds the best I think - and can probly get one for about $300NZ _ second hand - up to 100k

NOTE: I must add that all research on ceramic turbines recommend a thorough clean / scrub / polish of your exh manifold to get rid of scale + rust etc as large bits have been know to destroy these ceramic wheels

you gonna make a new mani for it?

if i end up using a t3 Im just gonna tig a t3 flange onto the std exh mani flange

true cost cutting styles but recommended by my turbo guru for simplicity's sake

i have the .6 (.80 A/R) T25G My old T25 had a .48 like you are talking about. But I wanted something bigger :evillaug: as usual. So I got this one for $200 from a friend. If anyone is interested in one, I might be able to get another for $200 if they want it. But this turbo is great. It spools right at 3000RPM on my CA20ET and holds the boost well up into the 4K RPM range I have to stop at cause of my new engine. But it hauls. 3rd gear slippage. Now all I need is the LSD.

What T28 is this one? A GTiR unit?

Should be easy to tell, the 300ZX turbo (Z32 i presume) should have quite a small exhaust housing scene as it's basically a 1.5L motor driving it.

i have a brand new blown t25, thanks to some bad choices. i am working on finding an other one or getting this one rebuilt. some time this week i will go to michigan turbo and have them take a look at it and tell me the damages and decide if it is worth it.

Adam666: If your going to get an RB20DET turbo your also have to get a custom exhaust manifold due to it being so big it hits the engine mounts! I found this out the hard way  The other way would be to hack some meat of the stock manifold and then weld in an adaptor!

Even tho i dont have A ET Ill say what i got neway :lick:
S15 JDM T28BB Steel exhaust wheeled GOODNESS!! Can ne1 say 18psi

right now im using the same t25g that yellow prelude has but i also have a big t28 off the skyline basically the same as the gti-r but i have the ball bearing center section and ceramic wheel its good to 16psi before the ceramic wheel will shatter due to the harmonic frequency.... its a .64a/r turbine with a .60a/r compresor t3 50trim wheel

heres some pics

Garett? Who's that? ;)

To anyone who wants to weld a new flange on the old manifold ... eek. Have you seen the stock manifold? I'm surprised any exhaust finds its way to the turbo.

I have 3 of these now *lol* just trying to scrape together $100 to get the small 16 centersection swapped in and balanced on one of them to go from a .60 to .70 :D 410cfm to 505

or possibly 55 to 60 ... no one has been able to tell me the A/R for sure. A lot of educated guesses. But the 14B alone can put a Talon into the low 12s. Small 16's they're seeing 11s. Either way, should blow apart the ca18et pretty quick. About 1/2 way through manifold prototype.

Here it is making my old T2 feel very inadequate.

well thats what 2 liters and awd do for ya

Mr.200date not saved · #15

yup, without the AWD, you don't slow down at the last 1/2 of the track. Especially when a DSM car weighs about as much as my Charger ;)

We have an T2/T25 hybride right now but are going to use an t25/28 later

Zeusdate not saved · #17

t25 for now obviously... but i may go for one of the ballbearing t28's down the road..

Im using a Mitsu TD04-15t, with unknown exhaust housing (It should be a 5 or 6)

Good responce and power that suits me :)

adam666date not saved · #19

What T28 is this one? A GTiR unit?

yeah, the exhaust housing is huge on the gtir ones

more suitable for mid -> top end power than getting me to work :p

oh really, a short manifold flange extension might be on the cards then

cheers

I'm going to be using a T28BB of a S15 Siliva (SR20DET) pics are on my cardomain site...

Zeus, when did you get a SR into your S12 man...how do you like it?

TurboPowerdate not saved · #22

Im using a switcher/Holset S2 BG turbo, its got immense power after 3500 rpm
the only downside with it is that it wakes up so late but when it does its just trying to keep to car on the road!
