And no it's not a bong or penis pump.

Air cannon?

seishukuMar 28, 2013, 5:33 pm · #3

"IT'S A CANNON!!@@#$#%#@!"

No, it's not... Well, not quite... It does blow a lot of air.

RomeroMar 28, 2013, 5:49 pm · #4

is it one of those old school AC things that sits on the window and sucks in air, then somehow cools it then puts it into the cabin?

seishukuMar 28, 2013, 5:52 pm · #5

A swamp cooler? Nah.

RomeroMar 28, 2013, 5:59 pm · #6

supercharger

seishukuMar 28, 2013, 6:02 pm · #7

You're on the right track, but not quite!

RomeroMar 28, 2013, 6:06 pm · #8

pro-charger?

EternalSwapMar 28, 2013, 6:09 pm · #9

a bomb? with a spark plug ignitor lol

seishukuMar 28, 2013, 6:26 pm · #10
Nope, and nope.

Though I did get asked if I was making a bomb when I was welding it up.

Pneumatic reservoir?

Turbine engine

DING DING DING

The compressor outlet gave it away, didn't it

Seems that nobody wants my old T25, so I'm gonna play around with this.

nismo200sx16Mar 28, 2013, 8:51 pm · #14

open it up . whats your flame tube look like? looks like the combustion chamber is to small.

sideways_s12Mar 28, 2013, 8:52 pm · #15

Hows that gonna work?

nismo200sx16Mar 28, 2013, 8:55 pm · #16

like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyZRQ1btI6A

seishukuMar 28, 2013, 9:05 pm · #17

It's 3" exhaust tube with a 2" flame tube, but I still need to add the compressor inlet on the combustion chamber and drill the flame tube.
I did a quick test with some mapp gas and compressed air, and it gets a nice flame... like a big blow torch, so I think it'll work. It's a small turbo anyway, don't need to make it too big.

nismo200sx16Mar 28, 2013, 9:12 pm · #18

I am pretty excited to see this thing work. be sure to get good video when you get it going. I have always wanted to build one and have done lots of research in the past but just never got around to doing it.

seishukuMar 28, 2013, 9:50 pm · #19

Oh yeah, of course!
It's something that I've always wanted to do too, but I've never had a good turbo just laying around.

sideways_s12Mar 28, 2013, 10:30 pm · #20

Wait this isnt going on the car is it and also is it the t25g damn i was going to see about picking it up from you since i need a turbo for my black hatch...

seishukuMar 28, 2013, 10:44 pm · #21

Nah, it wouldn't produce any useable power, it's just for fun.

I guess if you really want the turbo, I only have like $5 in the combustion chamber (for the 3" tube), so it's not a big loss for me.
Otherwise I wasn't really planing on destroying the turbo...

ArroMar 29, 2013, 11:48 am · #22

Just came into this thread... Matt you are awesome. As soonas I saw the turbo and the spark plug I wondered but didn't quite guess correctly. This would be sloop much better with a big Banks or T4 and a larger tube. Then you might see some use!

seishukuMar 29, 2013, 12:10 pm · #23

Yeah, there's a nice holset from a semi sitting at work that I'm temped to ask about, but I'm sure they won't give it up.

Some more pics:
Head, air chamber, and flame tube (still needs to be drilled)

And what I'm gonna use to start the engine, also for testing the flame tube.

It's a vacuum cleaner motor... Almost put out the same CFM as the T25... lolz
I would use a leaf blower like everyone else, but I don't actually own one.

I bet I could still get SOME use out of this though, but not in terms of thrust... I would have to make up another turbine to spin a shaft to a gear box, etc etc.

Combustion chamber test!

First light off is just gas MAPP, then I tipped the bottle to give it liquid MAPP.... I need WAY more fuel than what I can get out of my little blow torch bottle.

Oh, and the flame tube from that test:

Might need a bit of tweaking, but it looks like a really even burn (other than where the air inlet is).

Need to set up oiling and then test run it
SchizophrenicMCApr 3, 2013, 6:06 pm · #25

Looks super nifty. Turbine stuff is cool.

seishukuApr 3, 2013, 9:52 pm · #26

Having trouble starting it... But it's hard working on it up on the bench, so tomorrow I'll try again on the floor.
I think I just need more fuel flow into the chamber before the spark plug will ignite it, I'll find out tomorrow.

SchizophrenicMCApr 3, 2013, 10:19 pm · #27

You need fuel flow to match your airflow, and ignition to match both. Turbofan ignition blowout is a problem against which countless dollars and man-hours have been spent in engineering.

IggyEGuanaApr 3, 2013, 10:28 pm · #28

ya i'm subscribing

seishukuApr 3, 2013, 10:37 pm · #29

Well, ignition isn't a problem, as I'm using an old HID box and it's actually melting the spark plug electrode...
On the bench I was trying to not set the bench on fire or blow an eyebrow off, so I'll try again on the floor tomorrow. I'm sure it'll go a little easier.

SchizophrenicMCApr 3, 2013, 10:44 pm · #30

You might consider mounting it to a test rig.

seishukuApr 3, 2013, 10:57 pm · #31

Probably, I haven't decided how I want it pointing yet... Right now the center section is clocked so the combustor is up, but I think I'll probably put it off to the side. I donno.

Yeah, still can't get it to start... Not enough gas pressure to feed it out of a small camping propane cylinder with out it freezing over.
I'll have to get the big tank filled and try again.
