So if you were to look, you'd see that I have been a member of this forum since 2005, and I joined when I first  wanted to learn about this strange car that looked like a Trueno but had "turbo" and "Nissan" written on it. Now I had first seen a big promising "FOR SALE" sign on one in 2004 when I was 13, and it was impossible for me to get a car at that time, and I only saw a handful of these cars throughout the years. Fast forward to about two weeks ago, I sold my very first car, a Honda CRX (I know we aren't big Honda fans here but I loved that car) so I figured after selling that car, I would only settle for the thing I wanted most as a kid. I was lucky to find a FS ad on here in NC, and after a long string of emails, I would be picking up my first love, on the 23rd. I arrived lost, and my friend spotted the car first from a higher road "There is your S12!" I almost veered off the cliff in excitement. After safely arriving there I exchanged money for a lump of steel and a title and proceeded to drive the car 300mi without so much as a second guess. Already outfitted with Tokico Illumina shocks and what I can only assume to be Eibach lowering springs, it held the road nicely, the only thing to dampen the fun was a clunk from the rear-end. Yep, the diff mount has had it. Here are pictures of it from that day:

Okay so I only have one picture uploaded from that day. It was a kind of scary drive, only one headlight worked and those foglamps were inoperable. So I fixed that, changed the oil, re-routed the intake and put my bucket seat in it. I had a full day! One headlight motor is still broken but I don't care, I like being able to wink!

I don't know if you can tell, but I cut about 1 1/2 coils off the rear to level it some, I think it was a kit meant for a CA car.

The big plans right now:
- S14 front suspension (full coil overs)
- Turbocharge the VG (the right way)
- Weld the diff
- Get more steering angle and slide it!

Well, fuck, if it isn't master spazez. Idk if you remember me, haha. Do you still do those pickle car things? Are they still even around? Haha

Whats the wrong way to turbocharge the vg?

Yeah some people are still doing it but it's kind of died off. And thanks! I think It constantly gets better every time I do work on it. I really need door panels though.

I guess a rising rate slapped on a stock system.
MasterSpazezMar 28, 2013, 7:50 pm · #6

I think I've done this the right way.

I feel like my engine bay is really cluttered but its no where near as bad as a Z31 engine bay.

I have a question about the suspension geometry, does the toe become more positive or negative as it goes lower?

8SixS12Apr 16, 2013, 6:32 pm · #9

Welcome to the ranks.

EternalSwapApr 18, 2013, 8:29 pm · #10

It toes in, so positive. At least in the rear, from memory :p

MasterSpazezApr 29, 2013, 11:05 pm · #11

Yeah I played with it on the rack at work and it randomly shot to negative so I just went with it. I also traded my hood for a more monotone one and some door panels. I had to space the hood because of V6, and I feel cramped with the door panel in place lol.

Also I drove through my hometown with it and some dude went apeshit when he saw it, was amazing.

night_s12Apr 29, 2013, 11:16 pm · #12

What did you do.with the Turbo hood?

MasterSpazezApr 29, 2013, 11:18 pm · #13

Sold/traded it. Didn't have the heart to cut into it so it had to go!

night_s12Apr 30, 2013, 12:07 am · #14

True true

IggyEGuanaApr 30, 2013, 12:47 am · #15

get a MKII "bulge" hood. its sexy. if ur alignment number changed suddenly then something moved/got bumped or the machine went full retard. happens all the time. whenever something happens during an alignment that doesnt make sense just start over. recompensate and caster swing not just the caster swing.

MasterSpazezApr 30, 2013, 7:21 pm · #16

Yeah something shifted and the rear toe went all negative. I haven't had time to look at it since but I know all my bushings need to be replaced. Slides good though, I don't feel like I had enough grip on the rear but my buddy who was also sliding it said we didn't have enough angle.

night_s12Apr 30, 2013, 9:40 pm · #17

Not enough angle? Add powa!!!

MasterSpazezMay 1, 2013, 12:25 am · #18

Well I meant steering angle, but yeah more powa is going to be a reality hopefully this year. Also pictures finally got posted from the drift event I went to!

MasterSpazezMay 8, 2013, 10:11 am · #20

I was running Sentra or Altima wheels? Now I have some Summit steel wheels (15x7 +0).

This update is just going to be text so deal with it I guess. My MAF went out in my parents driveway on Sunday, while incredibly lucky, I still had to ring AAA to get a tow home. Today I managed to find an 87 (non-compatible with OEM S12 o2 sensors) MAF and ECU for a whopping $56. Not bad, right. It still took a 10% correction on the SAFC II just to idle, but it feels sharper, and has no hesitation and revs up really quick now.

I busted out my back glass a while back because I am an idiot,

so I have started to ditch the idea of a comfy full interior DD in favor of the stripped out lightweight drift monster I want it to be.

Here is the start of the stripping (yes the corner windows and even door glass came out).

So all that nonsense is taken out, and simplified! Still want to delete all the unused wires but that is a long way off. Also, I will be making templates for new polycarbonate windows and selling everything else because it takes up too much room in the garage.

Basically all I have been doing is cleaning it up and fixing little things that bug me, as well as install a coolant temp gauge.

posted image
Removed clutch fan and put a pusher fan on, solidly mounted the MAF, and made a coolant overflow from this neat bottle I found (stole) from work.

Some of this.

This little guy just came in the mail today, and it's a total lifesaver since the stock location is stupid to get to.

Plans for now (in order):
- Buy R32 radiator, relocate oil filter, and add oil cooler
- More angle
- Go turbo
- Badass suspension

IggyEGuanaAug 25, 2014, 2:32 am · #25

huh? I'm not educated on Z31s by any means but I've never heard of the ecu keeping track of boost directly with any kind of boost sensor. It calculates load based on MAF/TPS/RPM/CTS. The turbo ecu will differ from a NA ecu in the way the fuel and timing maps account for boost. A turbo ecu CAN account for boost and a NA ecu CAN'T. I would first double check your ecu part number and then troubleshoot the problem per the FSM (voltage checks). Good luck

MasterSpazezAug 26, 2014, 7:14 pm · #26

AFAIK the Z31 turbo models have a boost sensor on the left-hand side fender well. The turbo ECU is worth a shot since I have one laying around. Wonder if it will still work with no TPS input.

the 300zx  b00st sensor is for the dash guage only...it has nothing to do with the ecu or tune.

Correct Sir. Just like the CA18ET. Waylon's theory is also correct.
