Just bought KA24DE swapped S12

Hi everyone! I just bought a 1985 200sx s12 with a KA24DE motor and trans swap. I'm new to the KA and to RWD Nissan's. I've owned 2 4th gen Maxima's before this and I have an 1985 Maxima still hanging around as well.

The car has a nice list of mods already when I bought it. I'm planning to add coilovers to finish up the suspension and maybe boost the KA down the road. Some upcoming soon mods will be electric fan conversion and cleaning up the interior and figuring out how to fix the gauge cluster. The speedo cuts out and the tach doesn't work.

wow that's a really cool looking s12 how much did you pay for it? and also is that the original color?

Yes that is the original color. It had some ugly factory decals down the side when he got it. I paid $2000.00 for it out the door. The KA and trans have about 120k miles The body has 112k miles

The KA really isn't that bad of a motor. I don't know why people make such a fuss about it. It's an iron block so it can withstand some punishment and there is a plethora of aftermarket support when compared to a VQ30 which is what I'm use to coming from. They are also cheap to boost and easy to work on and fix.

I think the KA decal is cool. I think the hockey pucks are FTL, and you'd be happier with some NISMO mounts instead. Plenty firm but won't make your mirrors useless.

There is silicone in between each puck, 2 pucks per side. I get minor vibration but it doesn't bother me. If I ever need to pull the motor in the future perhaps I'll reevaluate it.

The silicone isn't for cushion, it's for friction. Or removal of it ;) Think of it as KY jelly for your rubber LOLz

All I'm saying is it probably isn't as stiff as you think it is. The outside mirrors shake a little bit at idle but the rear view hardly ever moves.  That might give you a general idea. I actually enjoy having feeling in my hand and butt though. I hate driving the wife's Subaru, the steering is wobbly and numb.

As for engine mount, I just polyurethaned my stock mount. Doing this you get stock mount, noticably stiffer, for 1/10 the price of a nismo unit.

Of the three people I've talked to who used pucks for mounts on their KA's, all three said their center mirror was useless. FYI, you don't have to pull the motor to change the mounts. But if it doesn't bother you, even better.

It really isn't that big of a deal to me. I love the S12 chasis though. I don't understand why it didn't catch on much in the tuning world.

Yeah it is a good thing. It is quite the head turner of a car. People are always like WTF is that car that just passed by?! I've only seen one other S12 in my area that is red, and it's mostly stock. It may even be automatic.
