So I'm new to this forum and to nissans. I'm picking up my 87 200sx vg30 tomorrow and hopefully I'm in the right place when I need help with it. The car has 160k on the odometer, the rear panels are taken out and the exhaust system is only a glasspack exiting the side. The guy who had it before tried to rice it up. I already know I have to drop a good amount of money in it to be at least visually pleasing but the engine and tranny felt amazing on the long test drive. I'll be starting up a build thread as soon as I get it but for now here's what it looks like.

For the love of God please just don't swap out the vg30 with a 4 cylinder. It seems like most new members that end up with SE's first order of business is to 4 cylinder swap them which defeats the whole purpose of owning the much rarer SE. And the engine and tranny felt amazing because well they are haha. The vg30 is a great engine and all 87 and 88 s12's got the C trans which is a very solid transmission. 160k is nothing for the vg30, very common for them to go 250k+ before they start getting noticeably tired. If you don't know when the timing belt was last changed I would make changing that your first order of business as they are only 60k belts and interference engines. Welcome to the club :).

I do not plan on getting rid of this engine at all. The only really major things I want to do to this car is stiffen up the suspension and make the engine young again. I may possibly swap for a manual. And I want to find the interior pieces that are missing.
