ill take a pic of the rad support later. oh yeah and the radiator is leeking too from the crash. gotta love being broke..

you'll need a radiator, core support, hood, grill, bumper filler, and from my experience, your driver side headlight assembly is bent and will need to be replaced.  If you have A/C, it probably also taco'd your A/C booster fan.

And at the end of the day, I'm glad you're okay, it could have been much worse, and it can be fixed if you so desire!

Better to fix the car than your body. Hope you're back on the road soon my friend.

Good thing your ok. That coulda been worse.

You actually got pretty lucky for an asleep at the wheel crash.

When the FC wrecked, I wished the car was fine and that I'd broken a leg instead. At least the body can fix itself to a degree. Fixing a car is expensive, especially if you damage the body and unibody. At least at that point, I had some medical coverage and could have gotten my leg put back together if it had broken.

Then again, now I have the Jeep I always wanted, and I wasn't hurt at all, so I can't complain.

Eddie, seriously buddy, next time you feel tired, pull off the road and take a nap for a few minutes. It's a better idea than smashing your car. The guys above are right, you were lucky. Did this happen on the highway or on a b-road?

sux bro but your ok and the car can be fixed...so don't feel to bad

JayNov 14, 2012, 10:25 pm · #10

Speaking from personal experience, you're VERY lucky. I had the pleasure of visiting my brother in the hospital after he had his face put back on after falling asleep at the wheel. He can no longer smell, he has permanent plates in his head (Which, when out in the deer stand, pick up a local radio station, so he's never bored), has a glass tube from his eye socket to his nasal cavity, and more.. He's done rather well for breaking a factory steering wheel with his face, actually.

Glad to hear your okay. Could've been much worse.

Edit: I'm not exaggerating either. 3/4 of the skin of his face was literally ripped off and hanging there. Took 10 hours of surgery when he got to the hospital.

As an aside, I don't suppose highways that far north have those noise strips do they?

Depends on your definition of highway. 2 lane county roads are also highways up here (Ex. County Hwy N/Townline Rd.), and they usually don't. County highways can also be roads. In all reality, wisconsin road designations are bizarre compared to the rest of the country. But, 4 lane, separated highways do have them. His happened on a country road, around a bend. Fell asleep, corner happened, in the DITCH (Which you guys don't have), hit a culvert, launched into the air, car turned, took out a telephone pole (Drivers door), and fell to rest a bunch of pine trees.

Here's the corner, ditch, culvert, and the newer telephone pole. This is his accident location.

Up here in Upper MI though. EVERY highway (Country or large) has rumble strips both on the outside, and in the middle along the yellow dividing line. Like so.

Why the middle? Because It snows so much up here, you have no idea where the road really is sometimes, much less your lanes. Even with really deep snow the rumble still happens, and you'll always know where you are in the road.

Also, there aren't many stoplights or stop signs up here. Just flashing yellows or flashing reds. A flashing light is a lot easier to see in blizzard conditions.

We have ditches. Depends on the road dude. Causes a lot of traffic fatalities here, people rolling into the ditches. The middle school I went to was across the road from this 8-foot-deep drainage ditch that people would drive right into. Got so bad, the city spent the 2 years I was in middle school expanding the road so they could have an excuse to get rid of the ditch.

Anyway, somebody told me up north they don't have those noise strips because it's a breeding ground for concrete corrosion in the salted winter. I never actually had that corroborated, and I never paid attention to that whenever I was north of the Mason-Dixon. Makes sense to have it in the middle though. Also out in the boonies a lot of intersections have the flashing reds. Some have stop signs, but in a lot of places, a flashing red is cheaper than 4 stop signs and minimum 2 street lights. Hell even in some cities they have 'em, which I don't get.
