i know this has been discussed before, tried the search but probably not hard enough lol
a buddy of mine wants to race in late september at a track event. (drag)
he has a 92 240sx coupe with stock ka24de, only thing non stock is his cone air filter and he removed the sound deadening but only the driver and passenger side, not the dash, back seat or trunk. weight wise he has full interior, some sheet metal welded over rust holes and some bondo, 2 10" subs and amp in the trunk. car is also fully loaded, so power steering, ac. electric sunroof, cruise control power windows and mirrors etc. he is also running 215 40 zr17 enkie 9 spoke rims. currently has a clutch fan but hopes to have electric by race day
i have a early 86 mk1.5 turbo hatch. stock ca18et. for the race i will have fmic, lighter radiator and electric fan, no sound deadening at all, my car didnt come with ac so  only interior i will have is dash and driver seat. no body kit (lip, endcaps, mudflaps and sideskirts and spoiler. hatch interior panels are also removed along with any metal plate brackets that hold any interior panels. my car also has cruise control which will be removed and power steering, sun roof, power windows and power mirrors. running stock wheels until i find decent deal. 205 60 r15. might have driver bucket seat by then too.
im probably forgetting a few things but lemme know what you think.
i think i will take him by a few inches or so.
s12 vs s13
Hmm I dont think u have a chance the et wont help u win
i was hoping his added weight, and my reduction would help
Nope. KA will probably rape you.
yea not a chance
Delete your fmic, delete the glass in your windows and put some 14" wheels with the smallest tires you can get and you might have a chance in an 1/8th mile.
Or just swap a ka,in the s12 and smoke him the s12 is much lighter so power to weight ratio is going to be on ur side
Turn up the boost and you should smoke him all day long..assuming your motor is healthy
The S13 will win. More power, fractionally more weight. Not to mention a better delivery of power.
If you're comparing S13s and S12s, the S13 will basically win in every category except typical sale price. Which is how things should rightly be; it's the newer model, expanding on what was good with the S12, fixing what was wrong with it.
S13 will win hands down, when i had my 87 SE with a intake, 2.50 exhaust no cat, and msd coil, i used to race my buddy in his 93 S13 he had the same mods i had, and i had no chance against the KA
i figured so but im still going to try, atleast there isnt money involved lol. but if i win hell never hear he end of it from one of the older guys cuz hes willing to bet money on me loosing lol
C'mon...have some faith fella's!
Back when the s13's first came out(yeah i'm aging myself here) i would smoke them all day long....even when the ka-de's came out it was a little more effort but i would always take them. All my car had back then was a HKS cat back exhaust with gutted cat, and a little added boost. Granted my car only had 70k miles on it then, but still. Maybe i had a freak of natute? Moving forward to 2002 i had a friend with a '95 s14 with intake/ exhaust. I had remaned ca-et with t25g at 12psi, full turbo back 3" exhaust, intake, and fmic, MSD coils. I would beat him everytime.
In any case drag strip scenario is completely different. It's all about 60 ft time, good launch, and traction. It will be anyones game
Doesn't yours have a CA18DET?
SchizophrenicMC on 02:18:11 PM / 13-Aug-12Doesn't yours have a CA18DET?In the stories in my post above it still had a ca18et. The ca18det didn't go in until 2007
You had modified boost, low miles, and modified exhaust, versus stock. Then you competed increased boost, upgraded turbo, an intercooler, upgraded intake, upgraded exhaust, and upgraded ignition, against a modded intake in 2002. OP is running basically stock with weight reduction.
He mentioned weight reduction + no AC + electric fan + FMIC . In the late '80's mine had it's full weight + AC + clutch fan and no intercooler and I still had no issues with s13's even with the extra drag from the AC and clutch fan.
I think the OP's s12 will take him.....but again, the drag strip is a different animal. The more powerful car does not always win. It's all up to the driver.
I think using a VBOX would much more accurate
The drag of an A/C pulley that isn't clutched on is comparable to not having a compressor. All you'll get is the 5 pounds of weight savings. 15 or so if you remove the whole system. The clutch fan only provides notable drag below 20mph, above which the clutch disengages. The FMIC won't add much in the way of power at stock boost.
I dunno, I don't see this going well for the S12. My money is still on the KA in the S13.
SchizophrenicMC on 04:25:54 PM / 13-Aug-12The clutch fan only provides notable drag below 20mphBingo...that will make you slower off the line
SchizophrenicMC on 04:25:54 PM / 13-Aug-12Yeah you never know. It'll boil down to health of motor, and driver experience

Keith on 04:49:32 PM / 13-Aug-12Bingo...that will make you slower off the lineYeah, but a CAET doesn't have the same kind of torque a KA does, and it doesn't deliver its power over as wide a range as the KA does. Plus if you're asking about it and not doing it, what does that say about your experience as a driver?

This statement is wrong. It's a thermal clutch. It has nothing to do with speed, only the temperature of the air going through the radiator.
If that bitch is hot at the launch and heat soaked through and through, you better believe that thing will be a drag on motor power all the way to the other line.
