So I've coated a few small metal objects, nothing of note, until tonight. I decided to strip my standard FJ20ET valve cover and redo it in gloss red with bare aluminum letters... turned out alright Smiley

Anyways, I'm ready to do more... I'll be posting something in the Vendors section, keep an eye out for it.
Spotted: Red S12 Hatch in Buffalo
That looks fantastic, such a legendary part right there too. Are there any flaws on it in person?
Is that powder?!
That looks hella nice. Im gonna have to have u do some stuff for me at some point. My intake manifold is already powdered true black, the intake cover and valve covers are powdered crinkle red
oh hey, i saw that somewhere once already Tongue looks good man, now hurry up and start selling the service.
Very nice man, make me much jelly
I'm withing to find a good used stove before I can start coating stuff
How do u even do the whole oven powder coat shit?
powder coating is hella easy, just need a gun, air supply (unless the gun is the airless type), and a dedicated oven (don't use your wife's oven!)
My oven died, otherwise I would have finished my other two aluminum wheels. cheesy
Anyway, that looks pretty good... I gotta strip my SR's cover and redo it, it didn't get prepped correctly, so it's got chunks missing. cheesy
Hmm...sounds somewhat simple. I shall look into stuff
Biggest thing is surface prep, if anything on the surface out gasses, it'll ruin the finish.

Cheap guns have their issues... which causes problems later. A good gun will save you time and grief.
Also, an electric oven is gonna heat quickest if you're connected to a 30 amp power source (which won't be your standard house outlet). Mine is set up to a 30 amp source in my garage.
Also, preparation is important like he said... in fact, it's nearly an artform in of itself. There are smart and efficient ways and then there are dumb ways.
And there are some clever ways to fix gouges, but someone who knows better uses the proper kind of primer (not your typical paint primers) first... but nothing works as well as bare metal.
Oh, and expect to polish some parts here and there to get the surface prepped right.

Posted a couple pics in my RS-X build thread, with new plug wires Wink
That also reminds me, never use a gas oven... Unless you like potential explosions.
(fine powders and flames don't mix)
Coated some springs this weekend and installed them on a set of Bilstein adjustable height struts for my truck...

Powdercoated the springs:

The red comes out nicely after the right amount of coats, but there's a lot of finesse in putting springs in a small oven. Powdercoating sounded easy. Then I got into it more. Any moron can spray a coat of powder on something, but prep and placement in the oven is not an easy matter, especially if your oven isn't very big (most range ovens aren't big enough). Also, grounding is a big deal. Wow, it's fun learning tho. These turned out well I think.
Gonna do another valve cover next weekend. Too much school work to do! After I hit "Post" I'm packing up my stuff to go back to campus lol
Taco? I've been planning on doing this to my hardbody, but our upper shock perches are pretty weak and will need reinforcing first. Looks good.
The only car I don't have bilsteins on is the S12.
Thumbs Up!
Looks good! nice way to revamp the look of the suspention
Merged my threads into one... and coated another valve cover!
Top is a standard profile FJ20 valve cover, bottom is a NISMO spec FJ20 valve cover (taller profile, oil return baffles).
Installed w/ standard profile valve cover:

Installed w/ NISMO spec valve cover:

Next I'm going to redo the NISMO spec one in two color. After that, I'll be doing a set of brake calipers, or who knows what else!
