So, what was once known as Golden Gardens is now Nissan Fest as it has changed location due to evolving into much more and much larger than a simple meet over at Golden Gardens Park in Seattle.

This year it is being held at Evergreen Speedway and in addition to the the normal meet one may expect, there will be a car show and drifting event going on. It is most certainly growing and is proving to be something that will stand on its own in a big way in the years to come.

I will be there as staff for the car show but looking to see who will be in attendance.

Alright, unless the Mrs has some life changing event already scheduled, I plan on being there.  Looking forward to meeting you guys face to face!

rednucleusMar 20, 2012, 10:51 am · #9

So I assume Nissan Fest is still a go in Monroe this Sunday? Got the morning free so planning on attending. 1st day of spring today so I assume we aren't going to get anymore snow by Sunday? Looking forward to meeting you guys!

DraconisMar 21, 2012, 2:29 pm · #10

Yeah, we are planning to be there. Most of the discussion has been moved to the FB group site.

rednucleusMar 21, 2012, 4:02 pm · #11

Yeah, I don't do the the Facebook thing. You guys keep your eyes peeled for the old guy in the stock black 85 hatch. Think my bride (who bought the car new 100 yrs ago) will be coming too. How many in the club plannig on going?

night_s12Mar 21, 2012, 6:08 pm · #12

If i could i so would

rednucleusMar 21, 2012, 6:12 pm · #13

night_s12Mar 21, 2012, 6:17 pm · #14

Lol god dam its over 2300 miles man lol i dont even have the cash for that lol

rednucleusMar 21, 2012, 6:23 pm · #15

I guess you need to save up some frequent flyer miles for next year! No way could you afford gas these days.

silvertonMar 21, 2012, 6:27 pm · #16

I'll be wheeling at Elbe with my Pathfinder!  Much more fun than walking around and staring at a bunch of s13/s14's with gaudy body kits and mile long neon colored zip ties. Though I really wouldn't mind showing off my baby's new lease on life ;)

Nick_WMar 22, 2012, 10:32 pm · #18

I might be able to go.  but it wouldn't be in the s12.  Does that make me a poser?  lol

rednucleusMar 28, 2012, 12:47 am · #19

Hey Draco, was your car at Nissan fest?

night_s12Mar 28, 2012, 3:21 am · #20

so how was it??! Pics?

DraconisMar 28, 2012, 4:28 am · #21

Yeah, I was at the show as I was staff. As for pics, waiting for sets to be uploaded by others and by those sporting S12s. I will be doing write-ups for other purposes so they will be made available soon. And for all of those who have been wanting a rolling video of my car, Mason happened to get one as I cruised by the car he was riding in. It will be included as well.

rednucleusMar 28, 2012, 10:32 am · #22

I only saw a few S12's, but the one I think is Draco's car was the one that really caught my eye. If I was given the choice of taking any car home from the show, that would be the one. Only took a few pics, will post tomorrow. The drifting was great - that's my 1st time seeing what you guys get all excited about (lol I don't get out much I guess). Lots of smoke and sweet rubber smells. My Gosh, sure were alot of youngsters walking around, hardly any of us veterans in attendace!!

rednucleusMar 29, 2012, 8:31 pm · #23

Just a few pics from Sunday. The 1st two I describe as "a work in progress" and made me think of Cutter - could see him resurrecting this car from one of his secret junk yards. Don't know how they drive this - look underneath and there's about 2" clearance!

I believe Draconis is the proud owner of this one? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless, I didn't see many S12's there, but spotted this one from a mile away. The best compliment I heard was when another admirer said, "the engine bay looks totally stock the way it fits in there so well".

Your saying we should all get an rb26?

rednucleusMar 29, 2012, 9:20 pm · #27

lol why not, looks beautiful to me! Seriously, this car caught me eye from across the parking lot and the engine bay is so nice; I know zero about the RB but I know what looks nice -and if it showed up in my driveway tomorrow, I would love to take it for a drive!

night_s12Mar 29, 2012, 9:23 pm · #28

Lol its a skyline motor. Twin turbo straight six

elicansmileJun 16, 2012, 2:20 pm · #29

Does anybody remember how many liters the RB is?

Oh, 2.6 L. Duh I had a blonde moment for a second there.
silvertonJun 16, 2012, 3:19 pm · #30

RB26's sure are pretty to look at.  That's all I think it's worth. ;)  The work done to the car definitely made it look good!  A single Turbo VG will make more horsepower and torque though!

elicansmileJun 16, 2012, 8:52 pm · #31

Yes, delicious delicious torque. My VG pulls so easily when I'm on the highway. It's the best "passing" car I've ever had. Pulls better than my 3.4 L Alero.

Ah Dennis... Always so optimistic and faithful to the VG. While a VG is a great engine and a turbo VG can produce great power, unfortunately the VG30E will never be able to compare to an RB26. RB20... yes, RB25... possibly, RB26... no. You just hating but it's all good. Stock for stock the 2.6 is far more capable and if you want to talk about upgrades, best not try with the VG30E. There's a reason why Nissan's premier car had an RB26 and not the VG30E.
silvertonJul 5, 2012, 2:35 pm · #33

Sadly Nissan's "premier car" never made it to North America.  I'm all for worldwidedness, I just made that up, but I'm going to have to say the 300ZX was Nissan's premier car, which was powered by a VG30 :)

There really is no comparison to the two motors.  But it is a whole lot cheaper to make the same amount of power out of a VG, but at least with the RB you get the "oooooo" factor.

comparing a vg30e to a rb26det is apples to oranges.  comparing a vg30det to an rb26det is... well.... I think I've proved my point.  The RB is a looker, not a performer.
DraconisJul 5, 2012, 2:46 pm · #34

The VG30 and VG30DETT are a bit different in engine design, so to compare can be done but a stretch. As for the RB not being available in the US... That is grounds to discredit it? There are many things that have never been available in the US, such as the FJ and we all know that it is one of Nissan's best engines. What is allowed into the US is far more complex than just an engine's capability. There is a bit of politics and company finances involved to void that argument.

As for cost, that is an argument that is a dead end as well. Just because an engine is cheaper and can produce a lot of power, which by the way, a VG30E cannot produce the same amount of power as a RB26DETT, does not mean that it is better. If that was the case, we should all be repping Hondas. They are dirt cheap to build. Easy to build. And they can produce a crazy amount of power.

And the 300ZX being Nissan's premier car? Not really. The Skyline GTR and the current day GTR is their premier car. Always has been. Considered by Nissan, the public, and within the motorsport world, the GTR is what has made and continues to make Nissan's name. The Z series has been great and did heaps, especially with the classic Zs. But they are designated to a different platform.

As for comparing to the two motors, you are correct. Different design for different purposes and different markets. But you were the one who first brought up the comparison in stating "A single Turbo VG will make more horsepower and torque though!". I'm sorry, the VG is a capable engine and I love it. But the RB is in a different class and you get a lot more than the "oooo" factor with it. It can back up and has been proven to back up the numbers that it is more than just a pretty face. But, if you are basing your opinion of the RB based on the way I have decided to set mine up, then you are valid to a point. I have chosen not to reach for its full potential. I could have chosen a cheaper route to attain some of my goals. However, I was seeking a very particular goal and the VG30E would have solved it. I talked in length with Randy years about about doing a VG30E+T and a VG30DETT and it was decided against. And no, it was not because of the "oooo" factor when I made my decision.

It would be an RB26DETT unless you did a single turbo swap and your statement that the RB is a looker and not a performer is utterly ignorant. You should know better than making statements like that when it has been proven that the 2.6 is indeed an engine that was designed to perform.

As for your link, it's a bit of both. And it's based on opinions and some bits people have viewed in the past. They are upholding the capabilities of both the VG and RB but nothing that substantially upholds the VG30E in comparison to the RB26DETT. If you want to base your decisions on the VG30DETT, that's fine but being that I have stated the VG30E and you own a VG30E, I think it is appropriate to talk about that engine, not the VG30DETT. If we were to talk about that engine, then yes. The VG30DETT can outperform an RB20, is equal or outperform an RB25 (depending on build), and can equal but has not outperformed the RB26DETT on a consistent basis (again depending on build).

What is allowed into the US is far more complex than just an engine's capability. There is a bit of politics and company finances involved to void that argument.

The politics being that they couldn't get the engine to meet the very relaxed emissions standards of the USA, excluding Kalifornistan.  And seeing as the motor was never here in the United States, it's illegal.  You should never have problems with that here in Washington, but it's still illegal, same with the SR20DET.

As for cost, that is an argument that is a dead end as well. You just didn't know the right people at the time.

I'm talking about when the Skyline and 300ZX were produced side by side.  The 300ZX was sold worldwide, and the Skyline was not.  You get in to newer stuff and we're talking about VQ's in the 350/370 and VK's or whatever is in the GTR...  No longer a VG vs RB debate

That statement is in regards to how your car is set up, which from the get-go you weren't going for performance, from what I understand anyway.  a vg30e+t can and will make more power than the rb26det currently in your car.

As for your link, it's a bit of both. And it's based on opinions and some bits people have viewed in the past. As for my link, I was using it to show dyno results of a VG30DET and a RB26DET with near identical set-up's, aside from a V and I configuration, and showing how much more torque a VG will make, at a much lower RPM. The RB has to be kept high in the RPM range to make its power, it's almost like a four cylinder!
StephenGJul 5, 2012, 5:38 pm · #36

+1, the 300zxtt was clearly THE Nissan to have if you lived outside of japan. Displacement will always give the VG greater potential, period.

The RB is an over-venerated PR machine for Nismo worshipers. There is nothing wrong with it, but it is what it is. A small I6.

cutter67Jul 5, 2012, 9:01 pm · #37

this is my take on the RB vs the VG. i think there is no comparing them. Nissan needed a motor for America and one that would fit and work in different platforms. the RB they felt was not the motor for this they did not go the route that toyota did with keeping a inline six for the supra which the last gen is the best sports car Japan built for the states and the prices they still command reflect that. Toyota also built V6's for their other platforms.

you can throw stats back and forth all day comparing the VG and the RB but the fastest nissans i have seen have had RB's in them but i know there are vg's out there too that run.  I think the Nissan community speaks for itself i dont care what forum you visit from 510's to Z's and everything in between the dream swap is a RB

sam31183Jul 6, 2012, 3:44 am · #39

you guys are both wrong....the ka is the best motor Nissan ever made because it is their version of a 4age. they put it in everything, its a 4 cylinder dohc, and its cheap and reliable. unlike Toyota though they couldn't make it super high revving and 1.6 liters was too tiny. to make up for that it has great low to mid range torque. the ca would have made a good 4age combatant if they had just spent more time on it and made it better. at any rate peak power is a pointless pissing match, driveability is all that matters and making boost at a high rpm with a pesky powerband is pointless.

sam31183 on 03:44:18 AM / 06-Jul-12they put it in everything

This statement is definitely reserved for the vg30e.  The VG30E saw home in more engine bays than any other Nissan engine.
IggyEGuanaJul 13, 2012, 12:20 am · #41

ya and isnt it the longest running platform. 82 or 83 all the way to what?.. 2004? 06? when they redisigned the pathy/frontier and went with vq40?

Hehe, it even saw non-Nissan engine bays.
silvertonJul 13, 2012, 3:17 am · #43

83 was the start of the VG.  The Pathfinder had it up to 99.5 when they went with the VQ, but it was carried on to 04 in the Xterra and the Frontier.
