a stick titled "did you know this fits an s12".

I ran across a thread like this over on another forum. It was cool to look through and see all the stuff that fits, and it was all right there.
You can even break it down into categories like suspension, lighting, brakes, yadda yadda

so....write it, and then we'll sticky it.  we need someone who can keep their own sticky updated with new finds and things.

CA18DET swap info for copy and pasting if anyone ever makes the thread(can get more pics etc as needed, just did this shit yesterday)

Did you know you can replace your aging, blown out motor mounts with a stack of two hockey pucks per side and use long bolts to hold your engine in? This will drop the engine in the car somewhat, but my oilpan is still level with my subframe.

Moderator Edit: Inaccurate or incomplete info, please research more.

Finally, the most surprising find to me: Did you know your mk1 driveshaft will slide into your S13 transmission? Instead of finding a mk2 rear driveshaft and an s13 front driveshaft, you may be able to pay a shop to shorten your mk1 three or four inches.

uhmmmmm everything you just explained can be searched just by looking a lil, common now

"searching a little" lead me to believe that I was going to have to use some ridiculous amalgamation of mk1, mk2, s13, and s14 parts cobbled together to get shit to fit, turns out that it's way easy to just fabricate parts with how nissan designed the mounts.

instead of using the search result "take this part of the mount from this car, flip it around, put it on that part of the mount from that car, slot the holes this far, etc etc" method, buying a new trans bushing, and worrying about all that, I was able to use a $2 piece of steel, drill four holes in it, cut it a little with a cutoff wheel (dremel and hacksaw would have worked fine too if you don't have air tools), and have it in my car fast quick and in a hurry.

and anyhow, this is supposed to be a sticky of information on what parts fit the s12. might as well start from the beginning, and pictures of stuff actually fitting is more reassuring than going off what some guy said would work on a forum post from 3 years ago.

yes. each hockey puck is 1" tall. you drill a hole through the middle of four hockey pucks, and use two per side, as pictured. use a large washer on either side of the hockey puck stack to distribute the weight of the motor across more of the rubber, and you can use a long bolt straight through the motor mount, hockey pucks, and subframe. this will lower your motor, and be easier to install, but the noise, vibration, and harshness will be comparable to solid mounting the engine.
ProlowtoneApr 13, 2011, 9:30 pm · #17

Just make sure you replace the pucks as soon as they show signs of wear. They are not ment to take the heat cycles, to take constant weight or to be drilled so please check the often and save yourself un-need damage. They do work but I am weary about using them, I have a puck that i split in half with my slap shot two years ago

+h ok

Hockey pucks are bad. Why? Because of the ridiculous amount of vibration. Forget using your mirrors, they will vibrate too much. S13 NISMO mounts work fine and are plenty stiff. No need for anything stiffer. And for most people, no need to drop the engine.

Also, each segment of a Nissan RWD driveshaft (be it from an S12 or S13 or Z car or whatever) is individually balanced. So a shop can't just cut and shorten it without rebalancing it. For the cost to do that, you could easily ship in a front S13 section. Which is balanced and ready to go.

Cutting things is unnecessary. Why do things the hard way?

I removed some of what you said about transmissions, because if you research the info more on here you will discover that there are four different unibodies for S12's in regards to trans tunnels... Mark I automatic, Mark I manual, Mark II manual, and Mark II automatic. Tricks you can pull between two of those aren't the same tricks you can pull between any match-up. My Mark I automatic trans car w/ S13/S14 trans required a far more complicated mount than when Mark II auto cars go to S13/S14 transmissions.

As far as the OP's suggestion, we are presently compiling this information, and will incorporate valid information from other people as we go. Justin for example does have a pretty good idea, because he had the advantage of working for Nissan and checking out all the cross-referenced part numbers. But there is a LOT of information, and certainly it can't be compiled in a day or even a week. The goal isnt to have one big thread, either. I'm not going to discuss the specifics of how we are deploying this new information system yet, because the logistics are a bitch.

So s13 nismo mounts werk on SEs

ArroApr 19, 2011, 3:41 pm · #21

No. Most of the things you do for a 4 cylinder engine in an S12 are the same regardless, but not for the V6. Maybe aftermarket NON turbo 300ZX mounts.

But we're not going to discuss tech questions in the wrong section, so I'm closing this thread.
