So I was looking for s12 stuff on portland craigslist when I happened to come across this.

rx7 fc trade for s12? It's more likely than you think
Wow... 2500 for a running FC isnt bad at all. I think I would go for it if I had a spare S12 that fit his desires. In many ways, you are trading up. S12s are around and cheap so if you feel the need you can get another. An FC with all that offered for an S12? That's a steal. FCs are awesome cars and in many ways better than S12s imo. Also, from the list, he's done a bit of work and you have a bit of S5 stuff. That by itself is a good thing and makes the car looks heaps better. Funny how the small indentation in the body is in the same place that my FC has.
Yeah I just thought it was pretty funny that he lists several cars worth about the same as an rx7 and then an s12 which you can easily get for half the price or less. It is a good deal though, I have a friend who bought a fully stock 1990 rx7 s5 na with 104k miles on it for 2600, it was ridiculously clean because it was a summer car. Then he crashed it because he's dumb and didn't know how to drive and had never gotten his license and he was trying to drift it. I posted the ad in case someone in the portland area wanted a good trade on an rx7.
bah, my s12 is my daily....otherwise i would think about this...
It's not a Turbo II, so prolly has the 4 lug hubs and lower grade suspension, but really what makes the Turbo II more valuable is the motor. I wouldn't pay this guy more than $1,000. If the paint was still good, maybe $1,500. I'm not low-balling. Just being realistic. All the fancy add-ons are just that: fancy. They don't add value.
As far as what people will do to get an S12... I've been trying to tell people recently, the S12 is no longer an obscure car to the tuner world. The people selling them for $1K or less are often non-enthusiasts and not tuners of really any kind of car, that just see it as an old car with (often) peeling-apart interior. The only people willing to put the extra mile into obtaining one (either with more $$$ or more distance driven to get one) are those who know what can be done with it, and plan to actually do something "tuner" with it.
But in the tuner world, I'd say more than half of people NOW know what an S12 is, and half of that half have decided they woud like to own one. And most of that half of the half have committed to finding, buying, and tuning one.
Sorry guys, I knew it was only a matter of time Tongue
3k takes mine....come and get her.
I do agree with the fact that it seems that the S12 has been recognized much better these days. I have seen prices rise for these cars, even locally by people who do not know much about them. However, the average price for a functioning FC is greater, so that's why I would go with it. You tire of it? Sell it and purchase another S12. Want an S12? Purchase another one, they can be found for cheap.
I would still go check out the FC. It is a great car and I love mine. Difference between the S4 you have is that I have the last year of the FC/S5 and it's black on black. Still na but that's fine for me concerning it's my daily. It is quite comfortable and I feel that the suspension is better than an S12 stock for stock. And yes, all the stuff on there is extra stuff, but saying that, the owner obviously knew what it was and you can at least talk to him intelligently and know that he is decently sound in mind when he talks to you. But that interior, as in colour.... is mehhhhhhhhh. lol
Personally I always thought the FC's were cool - despite them being over shadowed by the more popular FD's.

More than half of the tuner world who know what an s12 is = 5/8 or 63% of tuners
Half of them who'd like to own an s12 = 5/16 or 31% of tuners
Most of that half of the half of tuners committed to finding, buying, and tuning one = 1/4 or 25% of tuners +/- 5%
Mehhhhhh, I get what you're saying, they are DEFINITELY more well known now, but that much you think? Hahaha, And I'm not attempting to be an analytical prick by using fancyshmancy numbers, and my math could easily be wrong, I was just wondering what it would come out to. Is there really that big of a following for these cars now bro?
No, I like that you put numbers to it... and yes, I think that's a fair assessment, judging from multiple sources and experiences over the past year.
Haha nice man, I'll take your word for it! I don't feel that as a bad thing when I really think about it though, s12's are damn awesome and deserve it. It's gonna be interesting to see where all the new attention heads eh?
I know that our cars becoming more popular is a good thing for the community as our resources are not to plentiful and could use all the upgrades possible, But i am going to miss people turning and seeing the Nissan/Datsun badge and thinking WTF thats not an AE86

zastaba on 10:27:52 PM / 02-Mar-11Personally I always thought the FC's were cool - despite them being over shadowed by the more popular and vastly better FD's.Fixed
But ryosuke was still better then keisuke mang. {insert lame-o sarcasm}
only rx7 i would consider is a v8 powered rx7
maybe a 20b but good luck finding one
rotary engines are torqueless unreliable weaksauce imo
Prolowtone on 12:06:33 AM / 03-Mar-11 But i am going to miss people turning and seeing the Nissan/Datsun badge and thinking WTF thats not an AE86I will not miss that. It avoids those awkward redlight moments, after which a few shouts on "clean rolla (or something like that)" involves a brap from them and a kinda wooshing sound from the 200, then they shoot off the line and i roll like a old grandma (intentionally) taking a half mile to get to speed.

You could come to the same conclusion with the s12 and s13 though. It is kinda comparing apples and oranges.
firefox on 02:47:45 AM / 03-Mar-11rotary engines are torqueless unreliable weaksauce imo
I have to somewhat agree with firefox here. The older naturally aspirated rotaries really had pretty paltry horsepower and torque numbers. And while I admit I have had little personal experience with rotaries I have gotten the impression from quite a few sources their reliability is average at best. To top that off, rotaries get really terrible gas mileage. You'll probably average 20mpg at best with half city and half freeway (or even mostly freeway). If your doing mainly city driving it will probably be closer to 15mpg. From the gas mileage perspective alone I wouldn't buy or trade for an FC but then again I am not ballin. But most cs12 members are not ballin. That is why we drive s12's.
One thing about them i do like is the fact they are ment to be drivin hard. Otherwise you get a bad carbon build up that wreaks the motor and it becomes cheeper to replace the motor then to get it serviced
They are not unreliable. I have had one for a while now and my buddy had it for years before me. All without issue but the usual things you would expect. I really think it has to do with the owner of the car or the condition it was maintained in. One just has to be mindful of the fact that it is a rotary and not a piston engine and that your habits have to suit it. But yeah, Prolowtone is correct. They need to be driven hard every so often, as in taken to redline, which is always fun on the freeway anyway.
