[CLIFFS HALFWAY DOWN]
Ok, so here's the story. I have a friend who is a "Car Guy" but he's one of those types who's really only into New and unmodified cars (he currently has an 08 manual tranny TSX). Couple weeks ago, his grandmother died. Her husband had died years earlier, and when they went over to the house to start cleaning up (apparently they were both hoarders) they uncovered this in the attached garage:
(Let me know if this pic doesn't work)
I don't know yet what year it is, but I've been to see it, and it's pretty much freaking IMMACULATE. EVERYTHING is stock and in NEAR PERFECT condition, aside from a Kenwood cassette player head unit. The license plate registration is from 95 and it doesn't look like it's been out much even before then. I don't remember exactly, but the mileage was something like 74,000. Of course the battery is dead, and doubt completely that it would start even with a good battery, what with 15 year old gas and all.
So anyways, I was the first guy my friend called when they found it because I'm the only one he knows that owns one of these monsters. I immediately dropped what I was doing and went to see it. I couldn't help but ask how much I could have it for. I won't say exactly, but honestly, it was Dirt Cheap. So, of course, I bought it.
[CLIFFS:] I bought an old "Barn Find" S12 and don't know what to do with it...
Now this is where I need YOUR help.
As far as I can see it, these are my options.
A) Use it as a parts car. I'll be needing one eventually I'm sure, and this one looks like a good candidate, cause it would be more worth the parts than to try to make it run. The problem with this is that I REALLY don't have anywhere to put it...
B ) Make it Run. I'd certainly like to go with this option, but I mean really... It's gonna need (off the top of my head) A fuel tank, probably all the fuel lines and the pump, probably a radiator, a battery, tires, brakes, brake lines, maybe bearings if they got rusted at all, and who KNOWS what's going on inside the engine... And seeing as I have 4 project cars right now... I really can't afford this option.... Which is why I'm mostly considering Option C...
C) Sell It. To somebody who would actually appreciate it and has the money to restore it or do whatever they want with it. <-- THIS is the option that I would prefer, cause I REALLY don't have room for it, and I REALLY can't afford to deal with it... So who wants it!?!
Flame suit is on, feel free to leave ANY comments at all. I'm going to get it this weekend (probably Sunday) so I'll have better pictures and more info then...
"Barn Find" S12: ADVICE NEEDED!
Make it run x 1 bazillion!
I mean, been sitting for 15 years, great condition, in a fuckin barn? You arent gonna find one in better shape.
Dude, great find.
Make it run.
You should just TRY to make it run with a battery charge/fluid flush/ and drop the fuel tank, clean it, reinstall gas up and turn key. Bet it would fire up after that and not be damaged by shitty fluids or whatnot.

Ok, I retract the "Great find" quote.
Great save. One less S12 to be cut down before its time.

Lol, then no one would want it for what I would need to get for it!
its a hatch, not a notch, but I'd rock it

I already have a hatch that I intend to rock very hard very soon...
just change the fuel tank and the battery and if it runs okay u could sell it for a lot more than a non working car. That's what I think I would do!

Wink Can't forget that 15 year old oil either. Don't want to start with that shit as lube. Probably has the consistency of snot.
Get some better pics and tell me how much you want for it.
EDIT: oh im assuming its a ca20?
I would love to have this a swap everything from my car to this car.
Have fuel tank and radiator professionally cleaned. Try starting it up, you can transfer all your parts over to this one if this one is a whole lot cleaner than yours.
damn very good find

No. My s12 is a drift project. I would NOT want to drift this car...

Yes its an NA auto. Ill hit you up this weekend
oooh... auto, ganna make me think.
Wow! Clean find. If it has been sitting inside all these years, odds are that you just need to drain the tank and not have to replace it. The tank and lines should not have any rust in them it the car was kept dry all these years. I would change all the fluids, put a new battery in, give a tune up, and see if it starts. Judging from the one pic, it seems to nice to part out.
Its a ca20, I bet if you hook jumper cables up to it and give the key a turn it would fire up no matter what =P Haha. But really, it seems like the majority of the club thinks she should run again, or at least given a chance at new life. DO ITAHH!
When in doubt, Always go with plan B.

Won't the gasoline itself have rusted out the tank? Yeah it really is too nice to be a parts car...

LOL!!!
I can tell you right now that the engine will need to be disassembled before you fire it up, unless it was drained and assembly lube was applied before storage. I say part the engine and trans and sell the rest as a clean shell. If it's rust free, you could get the same for the shell that others would pay for a running car.
Alternatively, you could just sell the rest of the parts too, I am sure that you could unload a whole bunch of things right away. Even I have a list!
Damn you're technically right Dave, but this is a CA20!
LET HER RIP!
it looks like its SRA, what year? 84?
David B on 06:14:55 PM / 23-Oct-10it looks like its SRA, what year? 84?
I think so but I don't know yet
ka swap it and daily it.
keep the seat beads!!!
those good sir are anal beads...kind of surprised you've never seen any before.
Bring this car back to life for sure!
yea for real. if you're worried about the motor, junk it and swap in a KA or SR and ENJOY!
I'm in the middle of a ka swap right now in my other s12... have been for about 5 months. Lol.
Finish it
i vote david takes this!
What happened to the car?

I still have it. The guy who sold it to me can't get the title, so I haven't done anything to it yet.
i can scrounge some cash up after 100 drifters of decemember (if i make it) dec. 4th
or find something you want
is there anyway i could come down and try to fire this thing up?
drain the gas tank etc. throw some plugs in it,
i could just swap vins and put my tique plates on if i can get it to run
Why wouldn't you make it? SR still not together? You can certainly try to get it running but I think your best bet would be to tow it back to your place...
i can tow it, but i think its worth a shot to TRY..
If that's the way you wanna go with it be my guest. Bring a battery and 4 wheels with good tires.
