Welcome to Club-S12 Version 3!

Over the past few years we have worked to build a more efficient and fun community, with less hassle, more organized information, and even to offer you products such as calendars and decals.

We have tweaked and refined the sections and their descriptions over the last few years, but in the end, we realized that we needed to go further in our efforts to bring you the best community environment possible. It's something that's been in the works for almost a year now, and lots of planning and development in 2010 has worked out nicely. With that, we bring you Club-S12 Version 3.

C-S12 v3 runs in a new, more modern forum environment. We wanted something with a very flexible architecture, so we could tweak and modify it however we wanted. We also wanted something more modern and updated. We felt that even Invision's updated software model was inadequate, and this new platform takes a much more advanced approach, while streamlining out some of the fat (useless features, clumsy processes, etc.) for both administrators and users alike.

We've also spent a lot of time customizing the interface, and making many adjustments to bring about what we feel is a highly useful and yet enjoyable user environment. Along with a new look and feel, we've incorporated some new features which we think you will all enjoy. All features are 100% integrated into one main site, and some features are global, regardless of what you are doing at the time. You also have YOUR CHOICE of two color themes: a light theme and a dark theme. So both preferences are accommodated. Access the Profile tab for this and other personalization.

Gone is the old and never-updated main page, and in its place is a streamlined, modular portal page with articles and news buzz, discussion thread updates, and user activity. This portal is also seamlessly integrated with the discussion forum, and both can be accessed via the tab bar at the top left. And over time, we will offer new features on this portal as new ideas come about.

The articles and news buzz feature is the highlight of the portal page, and showcases cars, drivers, and other noteworthy topics. It also is the place for "News Buzz" updates. The photos can be clicked and larger images viewed. Note: Click on the title bar images for hidden extra photos.

Also integrated with the rest of the site is a new feature: the Garage. This is where you can upload photos of your car, input modifications, notes, and other information related to your ride. This is a great way to showcase your car, and while we will keep the "Club-S12 Garage" section (now called Builds), you can use this as well.

The new Calendar feature will allow you to keep track up future events that relate to S12's in one way or another. Car shows, drift events, and local meetings can be tracked there. This feature is still being developed, but we will see its use in the near future.

The search feature is simpler and more efficient than before, allowing you to find what you are looking for faster and easier.

As always, we have a global gateway to all the regional S12 communities, displayed with respect and appreciation at the very top of every section. We will be integrating activity on those communities into the Home tab's portal, and helping to keep the various communities together.

Also, we have not forgotten that in previous years, there has been a request for some kind of Club-S12 chat feature. With Version 3, we now offer this to you! The "shoutbox" allows GLOBAL conversations between all who are logged in, regardless of what tab you have open (forum, home, search, etc.). A log of previous shouts is accessible, and in most cases, the shoutbox updates with new shouts automatically on everyone's screen. We have tested this feature and found it to be solid and reliable. And a lot of fun.

A great deal of time and testing has gone into this version 3 web environment, and we've finally developed it to our satisfaction for deployment. However, this is an ongoing project, and we will be continuing to develop Club-S12 Version 3 in order to continue to bring you the best S12 community experience possible. And if you have any suggestions or spot any bugs, please drop us a line and let us know, so we can continue to better support this community.

Thanks for all the years of patronage, and enjoy the new look and feel of C-S12 v3.

Its pretty cool, but links to old threads don't seem to be working for me. When I search on google or when i click on someones link to an old thread I either get a 404 or it just redirects me to the v3.0 homepage. :(

XanoSep 12, 2010, 7:36 am · #3

Google will take a while to update with the right links.

Links on the site itself should be working as of right now.

LeegamerSep 12, 2010, 8:36 am · #4

This is cool as shit, guys.

I feel like I'm in club S12 2047 or something.

Very very nice.  I really like the new features and the layout looks great.  Hopefully I'll like it even more when I have more experience with it.

sideways_s12Sep 12, 2010, 12:51 pm · #8

Def looks good I think all the oldtimers should go leave a comment on the homepage. And what I mean by oldtimers is the og's of the site. So that when we have people join they can see we have alot of experience on the site.....imo

Nice work!
A bit nostalgic about the red color theme.
Can you resize the mark read, notify, new topic and post new pool buttons, please? There are very tiny.

XanoSep 13, 2010, 9:53 am · #12

I can see what I can do for you Alundra.  let me talk it over with Arro.

ArroSep 13, 2010, 10:45 am · #13

I'll work on new buttonns when I get a chance... also, the chat tab won't eliminate the current shoutbox at the top, it will just make it full sized. But you will still be able to use the little version on all sections and view its history ;)

alundraSep 14, 2010, 12:40 pm · #14

Thanks guys to be open for suggestions ;)

SC S12Sep 14, 2010, 4:27 pm · #15

I am digging the high contrast look, easy on the eyes ect.
Layout is logical...which means i have no idea how to use it
I do miss the red on black though

PS is there a lo fi version? my desktop seems to churn for some reason... *though its 800mhz and 756mb ram...that might be the issue*

XanoSep 14, 2010, 7:04 pm · #16

800mhz is the problem lol. sorry.  you could use the mobile version to just post to pages, but other than that, not much we can help with there. (mobile version:  http://m.club-s12.org/)

SC S12Sep 14, 2010, 8:16 pm · #17

thats low fi enough for me! thanks, didnt know that existed

XanoSep 14, 2010, 8:33 pm · #18

Also, I just optimized the software and database, so things should run a bit smoother for most users now.  I hadnt done so yet after importing the old data.

IggyEGuanaSep 15, 2010, 1:11 pm · #19

How about thread subscription issues?  I've noticed the threads I was subscribed to before the "upgrade", I am no longer subscribed to.  I've noticed that some of the ones I am subscribed to, or was subscribed to have had several posts since the upgrade, and I never received email notifications.  Anyone else complain of this?

XanoSep 20, 2010, 2:43 pm · #25

they have not, however I do not know of any way to recover this besides going to those threads and subscribing again. sorry Keith.

KeithSep 20, 2010, 2:52 pm · #26

No worries.....I had just noticed I wasn't receiving as many cs12 emails as before

LeegamerSep 20, 2010, 3:01 pm · #27

Is there a way to view all the threads a user has created?  Looks like you can see their latest posts, but not their threads.

XanoSep 20, 2010, 5:37 pm · #28

Lee, I added that function for you just now.  It's in the same spot you find the "Show this person's posts" link on their profile, just one line down from it.

I wanted this too.
celestialsilviaSep 22, 2010, 2:31 pm · #31

did you get rid of the limit on amount of PMs, or just the bar that tells you the percentage?

XanoSep 22, 2010, 5:03 pm · #32

Ahem, that was my bad, it should show up now.  i did raise it a bit compared to the old system (old was 50, this one is 100.  The new database layout for PM's in this software is much more compact, so we can afford to store a bit more there)

GrantSep 23, 2010, 3:12 am · #33

Hey man, everything is looking good! Believe me, the work you and Jason do for the community is much appreciated. Least i can do is buy you a beer and a shot next time. And i guess send arro a six pack... lol.

This is awesome though. So much to look through... oh, under the mods section in the garage, i didn't noticed any way to list part swap mods, like a ka24 tb on a vg30 or a maxima v6 alternator on the s12 v6. Im sure that section is a project of it's own.

XanoSep 23, 2010, 4:12 am · #34

Haha dude, ima hold you to that shot and a beer thing ;)  BTW dude, ima be in Cape Coral in March, rather than visiting my mom.  i'm gonna be chilling with my dad at his vacation house down further south.  I didn't enjoy much about that trip last year besides chilling with you (as i told you that night at the bar).  Anyways, yeah, cape coral is slightly closer and massively easier for you to get to :P

but anyways, the garage bit, you can add damn near everything EVER to the garage section.  It may not be listed, but you can add it.  I think our next frontpage post may be regarding the garage and some how-to's regarding it.

sam31183Sep 23, 2010, 12:33 pm · #35

i havent even messed with the garage yet....ugh, got to make some time for that...:P

Sweet. I'm gonna have to take a few days off then to chill. And yeah, much easier to get to!

I only checked out the garage section on my phone so going to do so know while I'm on a computer. Very interesting.

sorry guys, its 'looks' technically  good and I appreciate the hard work all its just. . . cold & soulless and not any easier to use. love the chat function though, and the additional PM features

lol

1. That's what a lot of people said when the switch to the version 2 software happened... they hated the red and light grey.

2. There are two themes to choose from presently. If the dark theme seems too "cold" for your tastes, give the light theme a try ;)

3. I may be offering more theme options down the road. It takes some work to draw icons and buttons and such, and after everything we've done (and tweaks still going on), I won't be adding a new theme for awhile.

We do appreciate the positive comments about the features tho, thanks! I suspect that after awhile you won't even think about the new colors.
GrantSep 25, 2010, 3:53 am · #40

Hell, i think the white on black makes it easier to read. Then again, im always checking the site via cellphone internet.

ArroSep 25, 2010, 4:50 am · #41

Yeah actually my smartphone can view the normal site quite nicely... even the article pages come up right. PM's work. And the chat window auto updates with people's posts. So for people with Android, iPhone, or PocketPC phones, it should work fine and look great. And for those of you who need something more simple, there is a mobile version that's scaled down.

As far as the themes go, I ran for a week with the light theme, but switched back to the dark one.

Just a word of warning, don't expect this to be the case with all phones.  Chat doesn't always auto-update depending on how well your mobile browser supports Javascript.  And there are a few other things that are just not gonna work the same.
GrantSep 26, 2010, 8:44 pm · #43

Yeah, i have a droidx and everything shows up fine, including the "shout box". I've found the garage section is easier to deal with on computers but still doable on the smart phone. I haven't checked out the light theme and don't think im going to... no need to, like things how they look now.

And of course all phones are different. Some of us just have mini computers that happen to be able to make phone calls... weird. Lol

ArroSep 27, 2010, 12:11 am · #44

LG's seem to work just fine... VUE, Xenon, etc. incl. shout box autoupdating.

XanoOct 2, 2010, 9:11 pm · #46

yeh, it WILL work, just it might not.  I just don't want anyone getting the idea that it was designed TO do so and bugging me if it doesn't :P

If it doesn't work on your phone, you can always go here for the mobile version:
