well as it goes im looking for rims in 15 or 16x 8.5, i want a good tire that can handle/withstand my driving style.
i prefer an all season as colorado is iffy on its weather(its snowed on the 4th of july here). i wouldnt mind buying to sets of tires one for snow/rain and one for just grip/handling.

post your suggestions/brands
also please post the size/measurments

Falken Azenis for wet/dry
Blizzacks for snow/cold. Accept no substitute

If your asking why I say dedicated snow tires for performance driving, trust me. The blizzacks have better performance in the snow than any all season tire. You'll be able to push much harder and faster in the fluffy stuff with them

my next tires for the back of my s12 will be one of the following...

nitto dot approved slicks: The mustang in my class runs on these and they are baller status...but spendy...also would most likely suck nuts in the snow/ice/yuck.

Azenis rt615k: These are the standard for autox tires...really. I have talked to a couple of people who have used these through out the winter and they have been surprised that they do as well as they do on ice and snow and...well, shit.

Hankook k106: I had these on my 626...they had good grip, and a predictable grip loss. They also have awesome tread life. They where also ok on snow/ice...but not awesome.

I am currently running sunny s3800s....they are...ok. I can spin them super easy though with the ka notch...and they arent very competitive autox tires...they where cheap though. I have good front end grip with them...so i am going to buy 2 new tires for the back first...

for the snow/wet season here i dont plan to do much spirited driving, just more for safety as it can get danderous on a two lane 80mph highway full of dumb-asses.
but there are some places wher i would "consider" spirited driving in the snow.

auto-x tires i would consider, but im curious as to the tread life.
i love the tread pattern of the toyo's
ive always loved a shiney car with aggressive looking new tread, its just pure sex.

blizzaks ive heard about, i guess if im going that route i should buy now as they get sold out quick here in CO

incase you guys didnt see it, please also post measurements/size

With it all Stock i have Michelin Primacy MXV4 195/60 r15 they are more in comfort/luxury section but have a long tread life (80k i think) and good wet performance decent dry... they have only locked on me once on dry roads unintentionally they are quiet and the car doesnt seem to wonder as bad as it did with the Z31 tires

much better than the Yokohama's from the factory and better than the 205 60 r15 Protenzas that i had on it

but performance tire it aint

This comming from a guy who runs through lots of tires.

Falken Ziex -912 are a great cheaper tire... they have a real good soft ride but when you need them, they are great for corner carving and the tread wear is right in between a Z tire and a economy tire while still being considered a H tire not a UHP which for the most part have horrid looking thread patterns. bleh

Ziex-512... even better then the 912's but don't last as long. Grip factor is much better and look better IMO. Price is good too.

Nexen N3000 If you want a shitty tire that will last a lot longer then most tires and looks cool. Good drift tire for the rears

Neo Gens (Nitto). Great for camber, good grip, last long, exceptional rain grip but as soon as you get the tread to its wear point they go to complete shat, one of my favorites though.

Falken Azenis, good tires, hated them in the rain, good thing they wore out fast, It rained too much here for those.

I can go on and on but theres you an idea.

If you want a tire that will do well in all conditions, the Bridgestone Potenza RE-960 AS Pole Positions are hands down the best tire out there for all year driving.

I personally run summer and winter tires on my cars because a jack of all trades is a master of none...

If you choose to run multiple sets, I would agree 100% with Jay's recommendations.

RT-615's are hard to beat for the dollar, and blizzaks just downright ROCK in snow...I have extensive experience with both of these tires.

I'm using BF Goodridge Touring T/A Pro 205/55-15 in the front and Kuhmo Ecsta AST 225/50-15s in the rear.

The Kuhmos aren't as good as far as abuse as the the Pirrelli P-4000s I had before, but they have way more grip, both in the summer and winter. I can start to deflate the Kuhmos in the rear if I'm real hard on it - sign of a weak performance tire? - but they're not too bad, if you give me a regular econo tire, I could bring them back way low on air in an about 20 minutes.

The Kuhmos kick arse in the snow though, get a posi and some traction weight and the car goes strangely well for a RWD on all seasons; I credit the directional pattern and two big siping channels that ruin you burn-out marks.

I have no complaints about the BFs currently in the front.

I wouldn't buy P-4000s ever again; terrible in the snow, less traction over-all than the Kuhmos, but wouldn't drop air pressure under abuse like the Kuhmos. I may need to just tune my air pressures though; My suspension is set near perfect nuetral with just a touch of understeer.

Never had a complaint about Eagles, Firehawks, any BF T/A, Mich XZX, or Potenzas, that I used on other cars.

the rt615ks are actually a newer generation of the azenis and have been designed with a bit more shitty weather conditions in mind when compared to the original version of the azenis...pretty much everyone i autox with runs either rt615ks or slicks...

also with the older generations of azenis the tread would look like ass...but they would still have plenty of grip left in them...i am not sure about the rt615ks though...as most people now are running slicks...

My friend had the toyo t1r's on his GTI-R and he has put a good 10,000 km on them of hard driving and they are still atleast 75%. They grip awesome wet and dry

fyneyoungstunnaSep 8, 2010, 4:05 pm · #13

thanks for the good info guys. now just gotta find what profile i want...and a dealer. rt615ks and the toyos seem to be the general consensous? i love the tread pattern of the toyos. we'll see how they do on the z and on the 200. im gonna try one of each out on each car.

Amateur tip: If you want the cheapest price on installed tires, find a really cheap price for tires online, then go to discount tire and make them match the price (they always do for me) I keep getting really nice tires for cheaper than shit.

I like Kumho Exsta's they are pretty decent line of tire, they are really nice on the Accent and I ran them awhile back up front.

Sumitomo HTR Z II aren't bad either and if you priced matched them from tirerack you could get them for 85 a piece.

I didn't think hankook ventus were too bad either. Really haven't been too pissed with any of the tires I have tried. They all go really quickly no matter what though. The ones I have now have lasted about 6,000 miles, the most I've ever put on a tire in my life.

onlinetires.com is where its at

MaxpowSep 8, 2010, 9:47 pm · #16

Vulcantire isn't bad either have found some mad deals.... then got them price matched.

Works every time guys seriously, for the price of a tire online you can have it mounted and balanced as well and pick it up in person (no shipping wait)

RT615K

tread wear life sucks though. and dont handle so great in the rain
Jsvob03Sep 14, 2010, 12:21 am · #19

BFg g-force sport. its a summer only tire (if its not..it should be. no good in snow.). handles like mad when dry, and almost better in the rain. really! I was able to spin the poo outta my kelly v-rated tires in the rain. the bfg's, if i were to just hammer it on a wet surface it wouldnt think twice. pretty amazing honestly. and that was a 205/60r15 stock sized tire. imagine what a 225/45r17 could do.

MaxpowSep 14, 2010, 12:43 am · #20

245's in the rear or bust.
