I think it looks appropriate...

The foreground is a bit underexposed. Good angles though!

And I agree, a better sunset would set these pics off!

KustamogenAug 6, 2010, 6:47 am · #4

its more that you cant really see the outline of the tire too well....so just how the rims positioned it looks odd.....

Im a fan of the "turned wheels"....Im all for it.....but it has its place/time and that wasnt it haha

lol well I wasnt taking the pics.....I dont know all that much about photography

my friend takes nature shots and plane shots.....not so much cars....we will get it next time theres a good sunset....its the only place around here that I can get high enough to get a good shot with one....so I think thats the setting....just need a good pic

I completely agree on the turned wheels issue. Honeslty with fitment like yours straight wheels looks best.

And not to mention, its really hard to shoot a black on white car. Its really hard just to shoot a white or black car. I really have a hard time with white, I have been known to get a bit pissy shooting pics of certain cars.

BTW i really like your car!
KustamogenAug 6, 2010, 6:52 am · #6

Youve got some good ones of yours though!

lol come shoot mine!

hotdoghogieAug 6, 2010, 6:58 am · #7

Haha... thats a long ways to go to shoot a car. I am going to completely honest with you, I have no idea where Calgary, Alberta is...

KustamogenAug 6, 2010, 7:16 am · #8

lol almost straight north of ya! maybe a lil NW lol

*checks maps*

about 3,000km north.......so whats that? close to 2000miles....depending where in texas

not far at all to snap a few pics!

hahaha here ya go

If your camera can do it, when shooting towards the (setting) sun - use fill flash to help illuminate the foreground

That is going to look bad unless you have a nice soft flash you can use.

Uh, no... Fill flash reduces the output and only takes the contrast out of the shadows in a backlit scene - it's a technique that most photographers use without hesitation

Also, depending on the metering mode of your camera, it will underexpose if you meter off the white car, so you could try adding a stop of exposure compensation.

from a post process point of view, being under exposed is better than over exposed. Its much easier to blow out your whites than it is to blow out your blacks in a shot like this. Using a program like photoshop, lightroom, etc. You can play around with the image a lot so long as you have enough latitude to play with. If you white balance off the car your car might be in the right exposure, but you might run into overexposing the sunset. I think whats important for calender submissions is squeezing more latitude i.e. luminance range without overexposing too much. Once those pixels clip to white there is no getting that color info back. Where as something underexposed (so long as its not crushed to black) can be lifted.

My two cents

Back in my day you had to know how to set your aperture and shutter speed. And you metered your damn light yourself!

Its a good start Kusta, we can get some post on those things and you might like them.

Haha exactly. I started out with film and I didn't refer to things such as f-stop. It was shutter speed, aperture, and the ISO of the film. I didn't use flash, if it was too dark I'd go with more sensitive film and used a tripod.

lol I like having a lil knowledge about everything in life but camera stuff is not one of them! hahaha

although Im decent at photoshop I dont even have it on my new computer cuz for some reason it wont let me install the cracked versions I have!

so Ill just have to take lots more with my buddy and get him to deal with it!

StephenGAug 23, 2010, 6:10 am · #17

Hehe, I can't afford a DSLR, but I rarely shoot anything. My ol' K1000 makes do for what I need. Film is getting expensive though.

Most people will argue that it's better to expose to the right - some highlights are just plain meant to be blown out. Pulling detail from shadows increases noise, which in most cases is far uglier than blown specular highlights

well exposure is illgal in 49 states, so if you put your tripod out and expose yourself your looking at jail time. Also tamering with Meters is illegal too.

hhaha ok im done.

I like the pics you took kustomogen. The second shot is my favorite, but it seem imo that the angle should have been just a tad bit lower.
but keep up the good work.

Finally decided to ditch my OE coolant tank for a S13 Circuit Sports tank.   I also ditched the OE water tank since it hasn't squirted in like 10 years

Anyway, looks sooo much better and cleaner than the brittle cracked and holy tanks.

Install was simple too...just adjusted the 2 mounting tabs a hair,  and mounted with self tapping screws....cake work.

Pics...

They had the best price at the time(that I found anyways) $80....shipping was like $10

The ebay knock off ones were $45, but they rape you in shipping costs, which were $26

I figured i'd just spend the extra 20 bucks and get the real deal....plus overall they look better to me than the ebay ones

Yeah, I saw that one.  If they charge shipping on top of that $95, then I had them beat pretty good.....since mine with shipping was $90
