The first 20 pictures are pretty graphic, if you are an S12 lover with a weak stomach viewer discretion is advised.

Vents are pretty fucked.

Stains.

Fail fail fail
Greg, I can fix anything you want fixed. I have nothing but time and can take payments, would love some employment.
I can't believe a company would use a notch as a security vehicle. It is a slow dinky 2600lb car with tiny back seats.
RedneckI can't believe a company would use a notch as a security vehicle. It is a slow dinky 2600lb car with tiny back seats.
Well security is just there to observe and report. Only to intervene if its a life or death situation. They use a lot of little Toyota corollas around here to do security patrol.
I think it would be sick. It even has a small hole in the roof where they mounted a light. Its got hella miles. I almost don't believe the number.
EDIT: Just walked to vehicle to confirm: over 380,000 miles. Can't be right. It drives really well for that number.
I like the car, feels sturdy, it traveled 200 miles right after we purchased it only hitch was it wouldn't start after we stopped for gas. We tried bumping it but not luck. Popped the hood open, and first thing I thought of was a problem I just had with my new SE and I checked the battery terminals, and the ground was loose as heck. Tightened it up and it worked again.
One thing I remember now that sucks about the car, when you start it, you have to pull the key back to make the starter turn off. It just stays on for some reason. Its really weird and I feel like its going to put serious strain on the starter operating in this fashion. Any suggestions?
Needs an alignment for sure. Tires up front are worn to the metal on the insides need replacement, motor mounts, trans mount, diff mount all need to be pulled off and poly'd. They are loose as a mother fucker... other than that can't think of anything that isn't demonstrated in the pictures.
starsky and hutch remake!
CHROME REEEMS NEEEGAAA
omg haha patrol car, is that legit or did you do that, Andrew?
Last owner is a "Summerland Patrol, PO BX 801, Summerland CA 93067. They bought it in 03."
Seems Legit don't know why anyone would paint that lol. I can't paint that good. It looks like a little old lady painted it.
Yeah I didnt think it was legit, because a legit person would have spent the 50 bux for a decal that was cleaner.
ArroYeah I didnt think it was legit, because a legit person would have spent the 50 bux for a decal that was cleaner.
Yeah I know. I didn't think it was legit either. I just lol'd when I read that.
I gotta clean this fucker up so we can see what it really looks like. Bet a jug of simple green could strip that fucking stain off the seat.
Sorry
If I were a business owner, I would not pay a company to drive around my place with something that looked like that.
No offense towards the S12 itself. But come on........
As for the key thing, just do a pushbutton or a trigger start
So sad... Who would let a car get into that bad shape?
Body- not bad, needs some work
Interior- again, just needs a little TLC
Engine- Who cares, its a ca20! lol (I hear a engine swap coming)
This thing will be great once its in better condition.. It has potential!
yeah an engine swap it comming, just gathering more info on the qr25de-t.
Maxpower if you wanna start sanding the surface rust and see how bad it is id much appreciate that. that wheel well seems like its pretty bad? if you want to test that part out to have at it.
yell ill deff reimburse you for the work and labor if you want to do some work to it.
what are the general prices of Ka's where your at?
i really want to sand the whole thing down and paint it, but at the same time that is something i want to try myself to see if i can do it.
im working on getting us custom framerails for those of us who dont like being so high up and forward.
Dude...I would rock the security thing...that's badass.
This is a California car with that much rust? It doesn't look that bad, though.
i still swear that this car floated around club s12 close to the begining of this forum...a bit before the crash. Man we lost some good threads!
anyways, plans:
i realy want to be the first person with a rwd qr in a vehicle. but if it becomes inpracticle then ill stick with a KA.
Got suspension in the works allong with bushings.
its deff getting painted and i have the color picked out.
wheels to accent the car, and spare set to change it up a bit.
got an idea of what i want done to the interior, just gotta see how its going to work out and if its possible.
she will be an all around car dd/drift/fun. IM thinking about buying another hatch since they are in the works of opening some rally-x events and full grassroots and competative level rally stages here(hell yeah!!)
I finnaly have a nother notch after waiting all this time!
haha club s12 IM BACK!!
hahha weirdest question in the world
How does it smell?
That, no doubt, is a coffee stain. I have the same one.
If it had like 300hp, you could leave the security paint and have some fun.
Cop tires, cop springs, cop shocks, etc.
fyneyoungstunnayeah an engine swap it comming, just gathering more info on the qr25de-t.

Yeah I'm gonna start working on it today probably. Have some free time.
KA swap can be had for less than 200 I bet, might even be able to get a DE. Pretty cheap if you know where/how to look.
Paints all you man! I just want to sand off all the rust and prime it for now to keep it from getting worse.

fyneyoungstunnahahha weirdest question in the world

You know I didn't even notice a smell yet... I'll have to... sniff into that and get back to you.
I got one question... How does a Cali car get so much rust?
looks like a canadian s12!
seishukuI got one question... How does a Cali car get so much rust?
If there's pooling water, It will rust
JayIf there's pooling water, It will rust
this. As well as that.
JayI also forgot to mention airborne sea salt moisture condensing on the car.
Maxpowthis.
I also forgot to mention airborne sea salt moisture condensing on the car.
funny because i currently work for summerland security here in vegas hahahaha and the logo almost looks the same cept" the colors are different
Could be niffty in video footage while getting sideways lol.
I'm still stoked just to have a notch! Now I just gotta get an se lipkit.
Stunna keep it ka I will attest to it if you go qr you will hate life if seen all variations of qr fail from factory. Kat bruh
im still digging the fact that its lighter and more powerful than an sr from the factory and can handle a good amount of boost on stock internals. Its a stout little beast.
This is a quote from one of the utmost athorities on the qr engine:
02-06:
9.5:1 comp
ECU was set to a stock 6250rpm redline
crank only has 4 counterweights
skinny rods
07+ (found in Spec Vs... SE-Rs and Altis had the 02-06 version):
10.5:1 comp
ECU has 6800rpm redline
crank has 8 counterweights and weighs 8 pounds more
beefier rods (still skinny tho)
07+ has different wiring, sensors, plastic intake manifold.
Only downfalls are due to other things. Big two for the 02-06 was the precat on the header breaking up and getting sucked into the engine. This failure has been seen on a handful of 07+ ones, too. 02-06 on the intake manifolds the screws holding in the secondary butterfly valves were not locktited from the factory and come loose and get sucked into the engine.
02-06 QRs see around 300whp on 8-10psi. Of course that really depends on turbo, exhaust sizing, tuning. But that is a typical number. I've seen 400whp dynos on stock internals, but I wouldn't recommend it, I'm more of a play it safe person. I was in the 450+whp range on 25psi, with built internals. It's a very capable motor to see high numbers with, and with the long stroke it also has the torque that is missing from the SR20.
I understand the uneasyness about the engine, beleive my im there with you, but at the same time if the cost of putting it in and tunning it outweighs the shortcommings im all in. Im undecides and at the moment im going to have a ka put into the notch just for now. but before the first day of 75 degree weather im going to be running qr...if its possible.
ur gonna need an adapter plate or a d40 qr trans and those are big mofo's
Sledge hammer and finess! Lol
please tell me that didn't cost more than a few hundred bucks, its really hammered.
there are plenty that aren't as tired in socal. that car would make a good track car, but imo about anything restoration-wise.
I picked up a fairly clean 84 coupe for $400, patience is virtue.
toss in a KA, forget the details, and flog it senseless! it would be good times!

This was $300 and it drives pretty well... or it did until today when I looked at the radiator and found a nice leak going on.
ive been looking at notches since i lost mine.Day in and day out nothing. I slept on the idea of this one for a while, but for 300 i couldnt pass it up, i wanted a notch. If i have to strip it down reweld, sand, paint, and give it affectionet sex through the exhaust pipe im ready to do it. radiator leak no problem, ill save for a better radiator. Now i just gotta focus on getting it here!
im torn between a ka swap or just getting it here for now. Im running out of time on a dd, but im not that bothered by it(if that makes sense). as long as there is no rust on the frame and its straight im all happy with my purchase.
Now would be a good time to make the decision on the motor swap, maxpow and I picked up a (borrowed) engine hoist for the week. Not sure how realistic it would be to swap a motor in a week, but if not now, it wouldnt be too much trouble to do it either way. Keep us posted on what you want done and we can work something out accordingly.
you guys got a line on a ka out there?
if so, and we can negotiate a price ill just swap.

Check craigslist in san diego/orange county/inland empire/ and los angeles I'm sure we could find a solid KA.
If you wanna stay Ca20 for now that's chill too, I'll just throw a junk yard radiator in it, it still needs all the fluids changed. I will get it all done asap I am just broke and trying to fix my own S12's right now aswell.
no luck finding a ka on CL in sanD,or Orange Co yet. but still looking. I didnt get a chance to paypal, but i will do it asap

No worries. Keep running into shit with my cars.
yeah i know that feeling
andrew if i knew you needed a rad i woulda snagged the mkII one off the 124k car
lmk if you need it anytime soon, it looked in good condition (like the rest of the car) with !new coolant!
Yeah I'll probably grab whatever I can on half off day. I mean for now I could run some stop leak and probably temporarily get away with it.
Its been sitting in my driveway for a week or more, rust holes filled with epoxy are starting to dry and will be ready to sand/paint soon. That will be a nice improvement.
Gonna do a fluid flush over the next couple days as well get it ready for take off.
