picked up a new s12 two days ago. saved it from certain death, it was sitting under a tree for 3 years

86 turbo.
Ca18et- appeared to have a 20e manifold on it? half the engine was in the trunk.
super clean body.
talking lady works, digital dash seems to function well.
engine bay seems to have been recently painted:

bring it home:

definetly need to re-do

just got it running about an hour ago. the SR is a blast to drive. still need to wire up coolant temp. maybe figure out how to make the tach work. has anyone ever done it with the SR and the digital dash?

plan:
daily/drift/autox/pick up sluts/whatever. just a car i picked up on a impulse buy lol.

Holy shit i think thats the record for the fastest engine swap ever lol

sam31183Aug 21, 2010, 9:41 pm · #4

you so random!

Phisherman09Aug 22, 2010, 6:28 pm · #5

broke the exhaust cam sprocket clean off somehow.

big fail.

pics as soon as my phone stops being dump. hopefully will be able to just swap cams.

edit: pic of cam gear]

it started running like poo after hauling ass down my street. then wouldnt restart. timing light was all over the place, then figured out why lol.

everything but the cam still looks good, some metal shavings on the head, but i dont think it caused any more damage than that. should be able to swap cams and be good.

so, i just ordered some crower 264 cams.

KustamogenAug 22, 2010, 7:36 pm · #6

my buddy just installed some crower 264's on his sr

he dynoed it yesterday

lower?

dont think the previous owner was on here...

more low will come soon.

just picked up some cams, install tommorow morning. i wanna see why that failed too. possible cam bearing seized?

PS: when i was doing the wiring off your  KA swap guide, all of the wires were in different pins then you had in the pics on my car. dont know if thats relevent info for a noob tryin to do a swap, i just thought it was interesting. i took pics if you think its worth posting in that thread lol
200sxkitcarAug 23, 2010, 1:04 am · #9

absolutely, post them up here.

Your car is an 86, so there are lots of variables during that year.  The stickies at the top are for CA20 cars too, but either way show me what you've got!

I know henry (asparagus) has a ka24de with a working dash. ask him or mod master
Phisherman09Sep 10, 2010, 11:10 am · #11

update?

lost a bearing about two weeks ago. fairly certain i had oil pressure issues. oh well right.

so, rebuild:

cp pistons
arp head studs
apexi headgasket
eagle rods
BC 272 cams
BC springs retainers and valves
freddy intake manifold
turbo manifold custom built by element racing.
disco potato (probably bigger down the road)

car will be tuned on NISDA, using a hondata s300 chip on a honda p06 ecu. basically they make a distributor fit, and run a nissan engine on a honda ecu. its pretty cool IMO.

goal 300hp with the disco, 400 + down the road.

motor is at the shop right now being cleaned, assembly will start next week once i get all the parts in.

some pics:

By chance could you take dimensions of the "turbo" graphic under the tail light?

Height x width would be good....thanks

amended story of why i havent updated this in 2+ years.

got married, had a kid, sold the 350z, bought a s13 for a family car. blah blah

as for the car, it threw a rocker arm who knows how long ago, wrecked the head and cams, so i lost motivation.

over two years later, its back on the road. (blew a coolant hose on the test drive. lol).

runs pretty good. just of wastegate spring pressure (5psi). its scoots, but still feels slow for some reason lol.

feels so good to be back in the s12 game.
I_heart_VVLApr 28, 2012, 12:29 pm · #27

5psi on an S13SR? No wonder its slow.

in for updates! :D

D-sport S12Apr 28, 2012, 1:15 pm · #28

This is reminding me a lot of my build lol. I've had quite a few of the same issues except over 2 years since mine been on the road.
Good job

I like how your intercooler *replaces* the radiator core support bracket and keeps the top of the core support and the hood latch held up... what's the size of the core?
sideways_s12May 9, 2012, 3:11 am · #31

Def want to know how you did that I want to do the same with the det and will the bumper still fit with modifications

DjayS12May 9, 2012, 9:22 am · #32

Size is: Big enough lol

David BMay 18, 2012, 12:23 am · #33

dude u can put that center piece back, you just need to add a few washers on the bottom bolt, i used a socket or two

will save your hood from raping your rad support in high wind's lol

Phisherman09Jun 2, 2013, 9:15 am · #34

]Oh hi.

Long time no see.

Long story short, turbo blew juneish last year. Around the same time my daughter started developing eating problems, we spent from july to january this year fighting it, in and out of the childrena hospital, got behind on bills from missing work a bunch.
So, this car sat for almost a year, again.

Finally got caught up, back on track, and started fixing it again two weeks ago. Got a new turbo, new fluids. Fixed a bunch of dumb issues
Been daily driving it for about too weeks now.

Wow what a story. I definitely understand the family / life thing putting your project on hold. My daughter is almost 4 now.  It's hard trying to find time to work on the car.  I might get 30 minutes a day and then not even touch it for weeks at a time. Anyway I'm glad to see you got it on the road again.  Now you're my inspiration to get my car done!

sideways_s12Jun 2, 2013, 10:29 pm · #36

Glad to see your back at it! You never did answer the my question about the intercooler tho....

Def want to know how you did that I want to do the same with the det and will the bumper still fit with modifications

8SixS12Jun 3, 2013, 5:19 pm · #37

I'd like to know as well looks like a cool idea.

Sideways , If you look at my build thread I am considering doing the same thing but with a smaller intercooler to allow airflow to the radiator.

sideways_s12Jun 4, 2013, 1:12 am · #38

Ill check it out thanks
