North American S12 Club?

I know there has been some discussion about Club-S12 claiming itself to be an "international" S12 community, because there are so many people in the United States and Canada who post on here. I also know that many people in some regional S12 sites feel that this is basically a site only for North American people, and that to call it the "international" community is a bit much.

I also know that this site was here before the others, and in the beginning, was dominated by Canadians and Australians. And currently, there are people from around the world who do not have a regional community, or want to be a part of something larger, so they sign up here and increase the active membership.

I think there should be some discussion on this. Nobody is making a decision on anything, and I'm not factoring in my own opinions at this time. The polls will give us somewhere to begin.

some of the best builds i have seen were abroad so why not just keep it all together?

and when i vote i get an error... i assume because i do not fill out Q2 due to it being dependent upon Q1

Correct!

The basic idea behind this is that by separating international from the north american side is to strengthen the international community and the north american community....the more exposure for the chassis the better! The way I have been discussing things is that if something where to happen NORAM S12 would start pretty much from the ground up...All of club-s12s tech information and build threads would remain...the idea is to basically show how are cars are similar...but different also...while exposing the car internationally better, and in north america better.

Honestly, the other sites kind of segregated themselves, or were started themselves. instead of saying we're the international club, just change it to the "The largest community and repository dedicated to the s12"

Or something of the sort. Instead of limiting it to saying north america.

I like seeing all the stuff those crazy Aussies and Butcher (among many others) got going on when they post just as much if not more than I like seeing what we're doing here. I think if we were to split to a North American s12 gang, we would certainly be distancing ourselves from the other fans of our chassis. I'm not sure further segregation is really necessary seeing as there are already strong followers/users of Aus12 just as there are of Cs12.

We may gain some unity or notoriety within the North American communities, but I don't think the benefits would be worth a split.

I'm reserving my comments and considerations for now until more people weigh in.

I think leave it the way it is.  All the info should be together.  I know theres lots of good stuff on AUS12 that we miss out on here.  Just imagine how much more might be missed if we separate the community further.

System isnt broken, leave alone.

Hoping to also hear from non-north american peeps.

Opinion from a non North American peep...

I joined here back in '04 when this was the only S12 community to be found. Back then I viewed it as a North American site and community, and I still view it as that today. I was here when the Aussies got together to form AUS12, and alot of Aussie members are still active here. Club S12 has alot of international members, as does AUS12 and the other S12 communities I'm sure, but does this make Club S12 the only international community?

I have the same opinion as a couple of posters before me, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Club S12 works well the way it is, as do the other regional websites. Segregating members and information even more than it already is would cause confusion.

Matt.

the idea behind a international site and a north american site was to hopefully strengthen relations with the rest of the s12 affiliates...and to try to make the north american community tighter as well...

club s12 would remain in place as the international s12 hub...and be re geared some to provide better service for that purpose...while north american s12 would be geared towards what is going on in the north american s12 scene. The main idea behind the north american site would be to help expose the chassis more in north america where it is just starting to become a tad bit more popular. If one site is good...2 could be better?

My biggest concern was that people see club-s12 as the international site...but that it is predominately north american...and a lack of a full north american site would make us north americans seem as if though we are full of ourselves....and that would break the community up more then it needs to be...

I get where people are coming from with saying if it aint broke dont fix it...but its an idea that might make things better...or it could mess stuff up obviously if done wrong.

Matt, I'm sorry you feel we are a "north american" site... I would put forth the idea that just because a site has members from outside its region, doesn't make it "international". Since its inception with Dan, it has been intended to be international. I can safely say the regional communities did not have that in mind, which is why initially I was against them. Of course later I saw the value of local S12 communities, but my initial concerns were that people would assume that we were "north american" as a result of spawning regional forums.

And here we are, years later, with a handful of some of you who see it that way.

"aus12" represents Australia (and New Zealand by proxy), clubS12france represents, well, France of course. And so on and so forth. Because we were the first site, we represent the globe, and because it has been hosted by North Americans, they are represented by proxy. We do not represent any region that has formed its own community, as those communities represent themselves.

Now, should that change? That's what's being discussed here. I'm still holding off on my thoughts on that. But in my eyes, there is no question as to the international scope of this community, nor its dual status as host to North America's community. All that is being questioned is if the North American contingency should be somehow separated, or left to be hosted by this site.

Edit: I do consider google.com to have an international scope, but it's more of an "S12 awareness" e-zine to me than a community.

IMO, This really is the international community and North America community (who says it cant be both in one, without any seperation) in that no matter what, this is one of the first sites that comes up for S12's in google, and it gives people who do NOT have a regional site a place to use as their "home".

I think that this is a good service, and it also gives everyone a hub to post in until they find their place.  lets take some of the islanders for example.  The guys from carribean islands.  They really wouldnt have anywhere to post.  Same as anyone from South America that might happen to have an S12.  I'm sure we do have some users from those locations (i know for sure we have some from the carribeans).

Keep it together we dont need dividing of forums. That would me stupid imo. Just my two cents i mean if thats the case then ill start socals12.org and really get shit divided lol

But arro yea i dont think it neccesary..:.

MaxpowJun 18, 2010, 12:50 am · #16

Exactly. Club3g was like that. I was in Socal3g and it was chill and all, but the bigger board turned into a zilvia. Its understandable to separate by country, but then we will have regions separating, all kinds of silly.

I still feel this is a world wide forum. People could consider a mostly north american due to overall member location but what about the men and women in the service? We have a member in sicily right now.

The only differnce I can see with the forum being hosted on this contient is the language barrier (that we get around) and the fact that different parts of the world had s12s with different motor options.

What really distinguishes one forum from another besides location of the people. I can understand why we would be considered North American but we have other members in other countries. So do other forums.
I might as well be in another country as there is only member remotely near me and even then, he's like 5 hour drive away. Shipping isn't as bad as international but still not cheap because of my location on a peninsula.

Out of curiosity and the fact that I bought the game, I googled " forza s12". Guess what result popped up first? Lol

I honestly have no clue where I'm going with this. I'm just always up to meet new people, whether in person or online, in the same state(not likely), country, or halfway around the whole.

Which is why this is the international community.  I met you due to this place, and you might as well be a country away. By other countries distances and things, you would be OVER one country away.

I like having club-s12 as an international community because no matter where in the world I go, I could post in the Club S12 Meets section and find SOMEONE from somewhere that im heading to, whether it ends up being Europe, or fucking Malaysia (Singapore), this particular site would help me find out.  There is no need to change that, since this site is the most commonly known site.
ClownyJun 18, 2010, 4:42 pm · #19

I like the idea of North America getting its own section only so that ALL the forums might come together to make club-s12 better. For instance, the tech section.  I think itd be pretty friggin awesome if I could read the write ups and how tos from AUS12 or S12OC or any of the other affiliates, all on the same site.

I know the goal of this site is to be an international site for anyone anywhere to join and be a part of the community, but I find that the info provided on the site is Waaaaay biased to us North Americans.  And of course it would be since we make up what...90% of the active members?  I think if we were to have each region have their own forum but have Club-s12 as a central site for all the tech info, build threads, and possibly even an international for sale section, thatd be pretty damn awesome.  just my 2 cents.

To the best of my knowledge, with the exception of the KA engines, everything is pretty much the same, or nearly so. There are some differences in the ecu connectors for single-cam CA engines in the UK, but otherwise the only information on this forum specific to North America is with the KA engines. Which is rendered irrellevant because we have an FJ section here, too, and the FJ was never available in North America. In fact, I think there may be a total of three FJ powered S12's on this side of the world, incl. mine.

So from a technical standpoint, most of what is discussed here is applicable to S12's worldwide. And what isn't (KA, FJ, etc.) is equally represented on this forum.

I am really hoping to hear from Omer (Praisewood) on this, as his region has no local S12 forum as far as I know, and he is a regular patron here.
