a rich condition should cool things, lean usually gets the manifold red hot, your right on that.

is your turbo water cooled? is it getting coolant to it?

whats ur timing at? na ecus advance timing under accel, with boost u usually want to retard it under boost. have you backed ur base timing off?

timing is most likely the problem.. its at around 15*befor top dead center.

Any idea what the timing should be at?

And yes, there are water lines going to it..

And the engine overheats after a long drive going about 80mph.. with the idle at around 2k.. I hear the water boiling in the engine and rad.
So any idea what the timing should be at if im boosting at around 10psi?

89-90 ka's both had different compression ratios. both had different ign timing, ones 20btdc and ones 15btdc. 90's were 15btdc. id go to 20-25btdc. the only problem is u want to retard timing under boost, which wont happen without some sort of timing control. 10psi is pushing the stock timing maps.

the overheating could be lotsa things. my first guess is a air pocket in the cooling system. are you running efans or the stock clutch fan setup? check your thermostat for proper operation too. a bad radiator cap could cause overheating aswell.

water boils at 212degrees unpressurized. pressurized it boils at around 250degrees., fyi, bad cap wont pressurize the system lowering the boiling point

if your timing is off enough causing a lean condition it could cause water temps to skyrocket. fix the timing then see if it fixes the overheating

Well, no updates because i am workin my ass off. lol

Ordered a F1 stage 3 clutch kit, ($300) , includes a 6 puck clutch, new pressure plate, and lightweight flywheel.

The stage 2 was like $5 less, so i just got the stage 3. lol

I took the b trans out of the s12.. took the flywheel out and everything, now im getting ready to put the rebuilt ka trans in there.

The clutch is taking a while to ship, but it should be here soon.. Everything should be together by tuesday.. Pics will be up soon

Not to be debby downer, but we actually had a discussion about f1 clutches recently on a local forum and they arent really the best. Quite a few regulars have used them and they had bad expiriences with them, well not all, its kinda hit or miss.

yeah.. i did alot of research on em.. and hopefully this one is a hit.
Even if its a miss... i got a new pressure plate, and lightweight flywheel, so i can just get a new clutch plate.

But hopefully its going to work lol

I guess they work good with a good pressure plate, but the one that come with is what hurts them. Im runnin a stage 3 6puck spec clutch, i hate the way it feels but it holds up

i doubt my ka i putting out more that 315hp with only 10psi lol
in fact, i dont think it will be anything over 280hp.. so a stage 3 should grip good, and hold up.

I guess time will tell.

DeezusNov 12, 2010, 10:42 am · #59

Just because it says stage 3 doesnt mean its good lol

xxstreetbikesxxNov 12, 2010, 11:25 am · #60

i know.. but it should grip better than stage 2 right?
