The submissions are now open for 2010 Club-S12 Calendar entries!

Last year's calendar was a great success, although unexpected shipping difficulties and a few lost shipments overseas have been something of a learning experience, so we'll be doing our best to have these ready in time for Christmas shipping.

We're also going to have a contest -- BEST GROUP SHOT, which will get a month spot in the calendar, so get your local members together and get soe good meet shots.

As with this year's calendar, 2010 will also feature a "Car of the Year" choice, so if you think your car has a lot going for it both on the outside, under the hood, and in the cab, take shots of all that and submit it. Who knows, you might make Car of the Year, and get the back cover spot.

Good luck, and let's see what you guys can bring to the table

SUBMISSION RULES

What submissions that will make it will be GOOD shots. Less important if you're stock or not, and more important:

1. How clean your car looks.
2. The setting you take the picture in.
3. The camera creativity (angle, lighting, etc).
4. If there are a dozen other submitted cars that look identical to yours, but your picture is better in the preceding points.

DO NOT send images that are resized down. We need FULL-SIZED images, AT LEAST 2,000 pixels wide. Anything less WILL BE DISCARDED. So make sure your digital camera is set to full resolution, and unless your cellphone is something like 3MP and the shot is clean, forget the phone pics.

You are to EMAIL your submission photos to [email removed] DO NOT PM THEM, AND DO NOT POST THEM IN THE FORUM! The ONLY submissions that will be evaluated are those emailed to the above email address.

As I said, DO NOT post *submission photos* here! We don't want arguments over who's is better and worthy for one thing, and for another, posting them will just give others ideas to improve on it and beat you out for a spot on the calendar.

... have them in NO LATER than October 31, 2009

Edit: DO NOT POST SUBMISSIONS HERE! DO NOT POST SUBMISSIONS HERE! DO NOT POST SUBMISSIONS HERE!

damn the next event is a night event.  prob wont get a good pic there.  Motion pic from me for sure though

David BAug 2, 2009, 2:43 am · #6

if i drift with my hood on, with wheels and get a clear high res pic will that be fine

ArroAug 2, 2009, 2:56 am · #7

Yeah it's pretty important your ride be "put together"... meaning all the panels and such on (incl. the hood, yes), and all your wheels need to MATCH.

Which means put in your corner lights also!

I hate the hole bring there...

Once I get some snazzy rims, I'll make a nice photo for y'all to look at, and deem not good enough
ArroAug 2, 2009, 3:02 am · #9

Snazzy wheels are nice, but remember, last year's Car of the Year had OEM S12 wheels. Granted he took the time to polish them and use spacers to bring them to the outside lip of the fenders. Still, worry more about the overall car, and the backdrop you place it in.

EternalSwapAug 5, 2009, 4:34 am · #10

all wheels matching? :

EternalSwapall wheels matching? :<

Yeah, having wheels that don't match shape break a car to me. I'm symmetrical like that, along with a lot of other people.

different colors of the same wheel can look very good though.

(these are just what not to do pictures lol)

JayAug 5, 2009, 6:46 am · #13

Why does everyone but me have Riken mesh's with 0 offset. Mine are +35...

DjayS12Aug 5, 2009, 7:00 am · #14

wow david! Looks like your car could be the 2010 S12 of the years! What mods did you do to your fender? it look a bit different than most S12's ones.

As for me I will need to hurry compounding this nasty scratch I have on my hood now if I want to get an entry! I'll send big enough pictures this time

This is a pro-quality calendar, not an ad spot for a wrecking yard.

Also keep pictures of your cars out of this thread. Submissions -- *actual* submissions -- should be emailed to the admin email address.

I have to finish my bodywork, get old springs and cut them(for pics), and some spacers or hub adapters for the rear. Then picture time

I'm not even sure I can get the blue car cleaned up satisfactorily for the calendar in time. That should tell you something, because I'd love to be in it myself... but I want it to look as good or better than last year.

ArroAug 20, 2009, 1:34 am · #22

No submissions? Don't any of you want to be in the calendar

MaxpowAug 20, 2009, 2:44 am · #26

Probably wont get in, but after a wash, some more spray paint, a wash, some wax, and some polish I might submit some pics.

PraizewoodAug 20, 2009, 3:31 am · #28

Things didnt go as I wanted and I've been waiting for parts for 4 months now so all the beauty stuff hasn't been possible. But I'm going to try next year as well.

MaxpowAug 20, 2009, 3:31 am · #29

Too Ghetto for an S12 club calendar...

Interesting standards to be judged by.

Do we even have 12 people with decent looking cars.

KustamogenAug 20, 2009, 3:42 am · #30

mines far from perfect but Ill take some shots with a decent camera eventually! haha

I'm leaving for Cali in a few days.....when I get back, I'll get it cleaned up, and see if I can get some creative shots for you

I've seen your car, don't underestimate your potential with the right photography. That and minor things can be dealt with.
a tin pan alleyAug 20, 2009, 12:48 pm · #35

mine would be alright if i washed it and photoshopped some yellow showing through on the rear bumper, but i still don't think it's good enough.

ArroAug 20, 2009, 1:08 pm · #36

Some of you seem to think your car has to be great to get in the calendar, but it's more about the photography... some really slick cars lost out to just "decent" ones last year because the shots were nicer of the decent ones. You don't need a perfect car or even an expensive camera. You just need to keep these things in mind:

- Location, location, location!
- HIGH resolution images ONLY.
- Night shots tend to be too blurry for most digital cameras.
- If you're going to get creative with slanted angle shots, make it a severe angle... slightly crooked horizon and building or curb lines look sloppy.
- Unless your neighborhood has mansions, curbside shots can look amateur at best.
- Unless you are drifting/action shot, make sure your front wheels are *straight*. Crooked wheels make the car look broke, and detract from the natural lines of the chassis.
- No mis-matched wheel sets... you ever see magazine-quality cars with them? A calendar is more showy.
- Don't worry about taking shots that would show the license plate, we edit them with the club logo.
- Don't worry about minor body flaws.

Stick to those guidelines and your chances are good.

a tin pan alleyAug 20, 2009, 3:36 pm · #37

alright, well i'm in then. when's the deadline?

edit: n/m, it's in the original post.

edit edit: are people/drivers allowed in the shots?

PraizewoodAug 20, 2009, 4:32 pm · #38

What about the use of non-digital cams? I mean if I take a picture with some fisheye stuff that has a bit artistic and funky way of taking photos, is that way off or?

a tin pan alleyAug 20, 2009, 6:33 pm · #39

that might be awesome. i hope your scanner is good.

Like last year, when the calendar comes out

I have many good cars sent to me now, but I want more so I can see what 12 are the best.

Bizarre yes. Whether rare or not ive never liked that color combination. It's like they had remaining body panels and just put on randomly with different colors to be cheap.
ButcherNov 10, 2009, 4:59 pm · #47

Can I ask for a 1 copy of the calendar?

rare indded.. like only 200 or 226 or something... there was one or two tho that escaped the factory without getting their pannels swapped... lmao...

Hopefully I didn't miss this but what is the suspected release date for the Calender?
Thanks
