TWell, here's the pics of my work in progress.
Ok, so I can't figure out how to get pics on here with photobucket but here's the link to my album. And yeah, I'm a manager for Buffalo Wild Wings. Sorry about the other stuff. I'll eventually get everything sorted into albums of their own.

I moved your post to your own thread.... FYI we try not to hijack other people's threads
Photobucket used to be easy, but recently they changed it so you have to float the mouse cursor over the top of the thumbnail... then it pops up three or four lines of code. SLOWLY move the mouse to the last one that has code that starts with [img]. Click on that line of code, and it will highlight it.
Then you can hit CTRL-C to copy that line, then you can go to your post and hit CTRL-V to paste it in the post. When you submit your post to the thread, the forum software recognizes that code and displays the picture in the thread.
Sorry, I should probably look at the forum rules in more detail.
I guess I was trying to copy the wrong code from photobucket then. Well, here's a try.

I've just done some intake work for now. Seems like I didnt see any added power from the 86 z31 ecu and maf, but that was also before the exhaust work.
The tape around it is to cover a hole that was there. It'll get fixed soon enough.
The exhaust is 2.5in from the cat back plus a cat delete.
Looks like you need some rattlecan sessions to get it back into shape, but otherwise it's pretty solid.
Yeah, was gonna take it somewhere and price a paint for it but would be a lot cheaper to rattlecan it. Plus, I'd like to do as much of the work as I can myself. The interior needs some serious attention; door panel and the dash are pretty beat up.
I've been searching around and researching and I'm torn between the front mount or remote turbo setup. Remote looks simple to do but the front mount doesn't seem that complicated either.
Remote mount is FAR simpler, no custom welded manifold required. Plus it's a neater (as in simpler plumbing) system. Frankly I've always thought the front mount is kinda sloppy by nature, but not everyone agrees with me.
Update:
Got the shifter shortened. I do have to say that the shifts DO feel a lot quicker. I've read people saying one thing or another but I do feel a different.
I did the whole thread a bolt and such with it, i just didnt tap the threads like a should have. It was easy to get the bolt(yes, I used a bolt) onto the bottom but when I went to thread on the handle, just didnt want to go on. I ended up using my bench grinder to grind the hell out of it til I could just force it on and then cover both ended in jb weld. And then hauled ass to work. Carefully.
Once everything dried, I ground off the excess and cleaned everything up. But then I didnt feel to confident about it not coming loose, so i drilled a hole perpendicular to the handle, through the bolt, and put a screw in through it, covered in jb. I do love that stuff.
Once the screw was through, another round on the grinder to get it flush with the rest on the shifter.
Then i found out that NOT putting it on a angle made me have to almost lean forward to shift into first. So i had the great idea of trying to cut out a piece and bending it forward for a angle. And I was wrong. It's fine and all, just had a gaping hole when i realized that this shit is tough and not gonna budge.
Threw some more jb to cover my mistake and I realize that I can just turn it around and everything would be fine. I forced the grip to twist a little more and reverse mounted it, after jb was dry, and took it out today.... just wonderful.
And now, various pics of the work:

And yeah, the pop up menu for the pics in photobucket really sucks!
Well, have the shifter sanded and painted.
Changed the plugs and wires yesterday.... yeah. The passenger side was a LOT easier than the driver side. I got z31 ngk wires, and they are kinda tight but got them to work. The plugs looked like hell but haven'r really noticed a difference in the way the motor runs.
Gonna change out the dizzy and cap tomorrow or saturday.
Well, here's finished pic of the shifter:

Any ideas about what to do with the door panel? I was just gonna get some more material and rework it myself.
Tomorrow I'm going to get the MSD Blaster and install that along with the dizzy and cap. I may or may not need the new ignition coil right now but I'll need it when I eventually turbo the vg. Oh, it's gonna be turbo'd.
great stuff and shave it down to contour to the door panel? might work. there is a writeup on here somewhere about fixing the panels, perhaps check the main page links.
shifter looks good man!
Yeah, I saw the write up on the panels. Thanks about the shifter. Tried to get it down, but there's a few rough spots if you look really hard. Its nice to hear some input from other people besides arro.
I've already read quite a bit on this forum before joining, so I have a pretty good outline of all the work I want to do and how to do it. Its just a matter of realizing that its not going to get finished all at once. Little by little, time by time, she will shine.
Some of the pics got deleted!
Those seat covers are a trip, where did you get them?
Nice job on the shifter.
Pic links are fixed. Just a few shots of the car.
Changed the dizzy and cap and by the looks of it, it needed it. The car runs better but still no power. Guess these damn VG could have crappy parts and still run fine. It's ok though. At least I know what has been changed.
Ordered the MSD Blaster and it'll be in tomorrow morning. Also ordered a gasket for the passenger side exhaust manifold flange. It's got a nasty leak in it.
Night time car pic:
I still have the spoiler, just needs some serious care. I have 90% of the paint removed, just have to bondo a few.... a lot of places where the paint and everything wore down and the fiberglass was being slowly worn away by the elements.
Examples:

I'm just about ready to start applying a little primer and getting the damn thing back on my car. Gonna paint it black, just because. Too much of one color is boring. Also going to paint the side mirrors and door handle pieces in black for a little contrast.
Some comments...
About your photography: Your camera probably has a Nighttime setting. usually on the menu it's a little crescent moon. That setting along with a cheap tripod will net you non-blurry pics. Night time makes it hard for the autofocus to settle, so a tripod keeps the camera stable until it can focus and snap the shot. But for the most part you're better off taking daytime photos. Also, when taking pictures of things, it's better to stand back and use the ZOOM IN feature than to stand closer. It lets your lens autofocus easier. Again, less blurry pics. Just an FYI.
About the shifter... looks like a lot of work went into it. Did you shorten the throw arm? That's the shorter arm on the bottom. A true short-throw shifter is a shorter throw because of that arm. Otherwise you just end up with a shorter shifter and a stock throw distance. If you decide you want an actual short throw, I think certain S13/S14 short throw shifter arms and adapters will work with your SE's "C" trans.
I told you all that about taking pics because as you repair your spoiler, I want to see how you do it
Looks like a great project.
And yes, the VG is impossible to kill...unless the timing belt snaps.
Yeah, sorry bout the pics, I'll try to be a little more picky about which ones get kept.
I don't actually have a camera, it's the camera that is part of my blackberry. Unfortunately, the camera doesn't have any nifty features like auto focus. All of the pics I've post have been taken with this, I just need to make sure that I have a steadier hand. Maybe brace myself a bit to keep steady.
Oh, I like the night pic cause you can't quite see exactly how bad the paint job on it is. Lol.
I only shortened down the handle, not the throw arm. I'll eventually look into the S13/S14 short throw shifters and try to pick one up somewhere. As for now, it may not be a true short shift, but it does feel a whole lot better.
Technically, it does shorten the shift time, but not by a whole lot. The distance that the top of the shift handle has to travel to shift into other gears has shortened, therefore, the amount of time that it takes the handle to move from one spot to another has also shortened.
Who said that you'd never use geometry in real life! lol
Update:
MSD Blaster installed. That was a lot more straight forward than I thought it would be. Idles a lot smoother now. Didnt have time for the exhaust flange but will be done soon. Sometime here, I have to take a trip down to the junkyard and find me an electric fan set. Taking some measurements to see what I can cram in there. I've read what some people have put in so I've got an idea.
Oh, and the seat covers... Gotta love Walmart! lol
Finished product:

And yeah, sometime here I'll out the Z31 ecu and maf back in to see if there's any change. If anyone has noticed any real difference in power or the whatnot, please let me know. I'd originally installed it when all I had done was custom intake. Now I have the intake, exhaust, MSD, and all injection parts replaced (plugs, wires, cap, dizzy...)
Another Update:
Going up Monday to grab a rear quarter window for the replacement plexiglass that I had there. Had a storm tear through and RIPPED the damn plexiglass right off.
Also, my regional manager gave the number to a paint shop in Bradenton, Florida, that'll hook me up with a decent paint job for a cheap price. He's a regular in one of our stores. Gonna get a quote from him.
Tried to change the flange gasket and freaked out for a sec cause it looked like someone busted a bolt in the mount. Messed around a bit and found that it was just missing so going to hit a parts store to see if they can get me one, otherwise, going to home depot to match width, length, and threading.
Not gonna bother with the gasket right now. Rebolted everything and just threw a small C clamp for a temp, started it up, and no leaks to be found. I'll get the gaskets later when I get another for the otherside and just do both.
Besides, both sides need to be unbolted and since the cat is no longer there, the whole system is basically one piece and I'll need to remove some exhaust mounts to get teh damn thing to move and give me access.
I have the Z31 ecu/maf. Didn't notice a change in power or mpg.
Yeah, I was afraid of that. Well, maybe I'll put them in again for the hell of it. I did only pay a hundred buck for the both together.
Well, haven't really had the time to do anything yet, been busy with work and stuff. Have been wondering since the day I flung a little mud up and it got on both rear fenders.... Took it out on a back road yesterday, rev'ed her up, and let the back tires rip.
Yup, lsd for me.
I'm guessing it's vlsd as the passenger side tire didn't lay down as much rubber, but it was still there. Figure a vlsd that's a little worn is better than open diff. Yay!
shit! that sucks! I cut my arm on one of those rear speaker brackets when I was removing them to do the suspension swap shit!
in fact I think it cut deep enough to scar.....considering its still on my arm like 2 months later haha
who wants to sue Nissan?!?! Engine swaps/upgrades for one and all!
That sux hope he's ok. He's a cool guy Tell I said get better soon.
It has been over 2 months now with no updates. Did someone kidnap Iggy? I haven't seen him posting at all lately.
i think he had to move so he is prolly in a transitional phase...hopefully him and the car makes it through ok...he has been doing a lot of cool work. I am sure sideways knows the details though of whats going on.
Yes I do no he didn't have to move he's been takin a break from it the car isn't what he wants so there's less motivation to work on it he wants an 84 sra in silver. The car has been sitting at my place with a cover on it till he decides he wants to work on it or give it to me lol j/k. But yeah he wants to get it done by the 2011 drit season so we'll see he hasn't been on much since hasn't worked on the car no need to post I guess but he's ok and doing good so no need to worry but he will def be back he loves the s12 waaaay to much to give up on it
that sucks about it not being the chassis he wants....i guess worst case scenario is he could build up the current hatch until he can find another sra car and swap everything over...but it is a big hassle just so he can drive...you guys have still been looking for a sra car down there i take it and havent found one yet?
i didnt have to move. my buddy whos garage i was using had to move so car had to move and no place to do heavy work. car has wiring issues that are fixable but my motivation for it has been low. i would like to pick up another car like jason said. something that wasnt someone elses project. dont get me wrong, im grateful to johnny for letting me have the car. still would like to have the silver back tho. anyway thx guys for the positive input. im def not quitting drifting or motorsports in general and im def not quiting on the s12 either.

Been keepin an eye out but no luck so far hopefully we can find one and boost that motivation of his lol....
this car and everything is now for sale! if you've seen it in this thread, its for sale! my only internet is on my phone so responses on here will be slow. $800 for semi stock motorset. $1500 for car with everything minus a few select aftermarket parts but it will still have most of the goodies. its a roller, not a driver but as you knew the engine was running amazing. email me: iggyeguana (at) yahoo.com

also, im still looking for a 84 non-turbo hatch. my wtb thread was closed but i still need one. lmk. shell or full driver doesnt matter
Boo lol j/k if I can come up with the 800 I'll be all over this....
I know it's not a 84, but I saw a 87 SEV6, 5 spd, sitting in the lot at Planet Nissan in Centennial that looks like it might head to the junk yard if someone doesn't rescue it. It was slightly wrecked in the quarter panel, definitely fixable. Maybe call them and see what's up! You might be able just to take it off their hands. This is as of yesterday.
def gonna call them up. thx ross! how u been man?
still lookin for a 84 and still sellin all these goodies. 1500 is a screamin deal for what u get
lol it's a no go on the se it's a customers car they are gettin it fixed that's why it's there....
oh man if i wasnt on the opposite side of the country i would be there for that motor like right now.
IggyEGuana on 03:45:01 PM / 02-Dec-10def gonna call them up. thx ross! how u been man?

Nothin much here man! I'm sorry to hear about your car. At least these cars are cheap to replace...haha!
sideways_s12 on 02:19:14 AM / 04-Dec-10lol it's a no go on the se it's a customers car they are gettin it fixed that's why it's there....
I figured they had it towed there after the accident. Whoever owns it doesn't look like an enthusiast (it has a trailer hitch on the back lol!)...more than likely they will scrap it because it will cost more to fix...it looked like it had been there for awhile too..had cobwebs and such..it never hurts to ask. That's all I'm sayin!
Yeah I get that lol it was worth a try tho.....
good luck with your S12 project Tongue
