Locations In Wanted To Sell Section

If you are posting an item for sale, YOU MUST include the LOCATION in the title... either a state code or country code, and in brackets:

[ca]
[Sask, Can]
[Aus]
[UK]

If it's craigslist, please DO THE SAME. Don't put [craigs]. [ca, craigs] is ok.

If it's EBAY, the above applies as well.

FROM NOW ON, POSTING A THREAD WITH NO LOCATION WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC WARNING ISSUED TO YOUR ACCOUNT.

Your thread may be lock OR EVEN DELETED, solely on the discretion of the moderation team. If your thread is DELETED, don't come whining, just repost it with the PROPER TITLE FORMAT.

As far as I'm concerned, you have to be either partially blind, lazy, or just plain retarded to not notice that ALL the posts are titled this way.

So there is NO EXCUSE.

THIS IS FOR EVERYONE'S BENEFIT!

Also, DO NOT FORGET the fact that PRICES ARE ALSO REQUIRED per the rules, unless you are specifying trade options.

ArroFROM NOW ON, POSTING A THREAD WITH NO LOCATION WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC WARNING ISSUED TO YOUR ACCOUNT.
That is pretty harsh for a small mess up. Especially people who are new to the forums. The other day I made a thread with the title "Two SE's for sale in Seattle area" and later it was changed by a mod to "[Clist] Two Se's for sale in the Seattle area". So from now on I will be issued an account warning cause I didn't put [Clist] in front of my thread even though I clearly posted the location in the thread title? I think a thread lock is pretty effective or even deletion if it is really bad. An account warning is rather overkill unless someone is repetitively doing this on purpose.
ArroApr 28, 2009, 2:28 pm · #3

First off, an account warning is a warning, not a ban. Your second doesn't get a ban, either. Nor does your third. What gets a ban are specific extreme circumstances. Not this.

Second, the Craigslist and Ebay thing has always been a grey area on how you should format it. My above post clears up that grey area. You won't be warned for something you did last week. But now that it's been posted, you will be warned if you make the mistake in the future. Again, it's just a warning, but it lets us see if the same people are repeating the same mistakes, so we can decide how we want to deal with them in the future.

Finally, locking a thread is not a very strong deterrent, but we may choose to only lock the thread. However, the delete option is there, because we feel that MANY of the situations where the OP failed to use the format were with REGULARS on here, not new members. Because of this, I left the delete option available to moderators, so that we can take a much stronger reaction to those we feel "should know better".

I have had situations where the person was warned, and five minutes later they did the same thing, was warned again, and five minutes more, did yet the same thing a third time. Deletion adds a stronger deterrent. Again, it's at the moderator's discretion whether it's locked or deleted altogether. All of us on the team are smart enough to figure out what's needed per situation. Some of us are a little more strict than others, but we are a team, and the basic guidelines we run by are, for the most part, followed by all of us. As the forum currents change, so do our guidelines, but we always keep tabs on things in our section. As with all things, everything is discussed. This subject is no exception.

And before anyone asks, I set the guidelines. It's not up for public discussion or debate. I do not need to subject my team to the approval of the forum as a whole. I've said it before and I'll say it again: This isn't a democracy. There are no "rights" here. Access to Club-S12 forums is a privilege, not a right. That being said, we try to make it as comfortable an environment as possible, while still maintaining rules and keeping a certain format that makes information easy to obtain and communication smoother. We don't allow flame wars, and we don't allow sketchy for sale postings (note that BOTH of those are rampant problems on nico and other forums). We weed out spam on a daily basis. We are constantly revising and clearing up sections to make reading information easier for everyone. Like Tim and Travis, and Dan Aho before them, I and Colin, and the rest of the Moderator Team, do what we have to do to make this place a solid, effective source of information, and a fun environment, without leaving it to total anarchy and chaos.

In the past, this has been under challenge by specific people, and unfortunately it would seem they preferred the idea of no restrictions. In my opinion they were naive in believing that totally unrestricted activity was wise. In the past, when we've held back on our moderation, things have ALWAYS gotten out of hand. I've been here since day one, and can attest to this personally. Unfortunately, some of these individuals have been unable (unwilling?) to yield their stubborn naivety about this, and it has meant that a few of them have left active involvement on here -- or in one case, have been banned. That was the case with Henry/Asparagus. I normally wouldn't disclose the details of something like that, but under the circumstances, I feel like I need to show some of you the reasons why things are the way they are, so that the questions can cease in this regards. He was unwilling to accept the fact that there are rules pertaining to respect of others, and unwilling to even discuss it with the staff. Multiple staff members besides myself made many attempts to work things out, and prior to the final issues, I myself spent a number of times trying to discuss things with him both online and offline (yes, I've spoken to him on voice a number of times). The bottom line is if someone is not here, it's because they CHOSE to not to be -- either because they decided they were unhappy with rules, and stepped away, or because they continued to be hostile, in the face of the fact that doing so would surely result in their indefinite suspension or even expulsion.

I hope this clears things up, but as it is, this is how it is, and how it will be. It's not up for debate, but I am more than willing to clarify points as the need arises.

So one guy should have all the power over about 2,000-3,000 active members? I don't understand this. How does that make any sense? Indy treated this place a lot more like a democracy then you currently are so whats the deal with the change? No one is making any of these new rules and policies about how it isn't a democracy except you. The rest of the forum has absolutely no voice to any new policies you and your mod team think up of that consist of less than .1% of the forum. Maybe the other 99.9% of the people you are supposed to be representing have an opinion on matters as well. If we did have to vote for a new head admin every couple years do you think people would support your re-election when you say things like "I set the guidelines. It's not up for public discussion or debate. I do not need to subject my team to the approval of the forum as a whole. I've said it before and I'll say it again: This isn't a democracy. There are a lot more than 30 active members. And I didn't get a warning. Arro also did not make this forum. The forum is made up of cs12 members. Without cs12 members opinions this forum would be nothing. Thanks for your informed opinion David B.

first off there is really only about 30 people who post at least once every 2 days, and stay posting throughout the year, thats who i call a active member

LOL, 3,000 members? activly posting on here throughout the day? your kidding
the most users ever on here at one time was 600. if you mean active by people lurking, and not posting

okay i thought you were just bitching about that part because you got a warning, cs12 members or not... it was made by the guy danomyte, who handed it down to arro, and arro is with his little team of mods browsing this forum and cleaning it up for free, with none of of cs12 members yea there wouldnt be a forum but there has to be some sort of ruling.... if you cant read shit then you deserve a warning, it will teach you how to
people keep posting for sale ads without the location, its a waste of time.. arro is posting this after hundreds of times people dont listen... what the fuck is he supposed to do? its got to stop somewhow...
your welcome redneck, my opinion is informative thanks im glad to hear that

Close...

It was made my Dan0myte, who handed it over to Indy and Westside, neither of who treated this place like a "democracy". Indy himself told me that Dan intended Bart and I to inherit it, but at the time, neither of us was active. For the handful of years I was not active, and Tim and Travis  posted quite a bit in the moderator section (a section I myself asked Dan to create), and judging by what I've read, they were quite in charge, and often did things their way, even when it wasn't the popular choice. They also had to deal with occasional drama. And they never ever EVER treated this place like a democracy. They did listen to their moderators, but from what I can tell, in the end they made the important decisions themselves.

The only difference between myself and the previous admins is I am particular about shit being straight. And the level of organization and ease of information access has never been better. I'm also more vocal than any of the previous three admins, so I tend to appear more strict. But really I don't run things all that different than the others, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF WHEN INDY AND WESTSIDE BASICALLY STEPPED AWAY and left us moderators to basically run it ourselves. Which is actually why Tim handed things over to me. For the last year or two of their tenure, neither of them had the time to pay attention to goings on here. So you might have seen that as them not controlling things. Not exactly the same thing, tho.

Right now, I run the forum, with Colin as my right hand and also as an admin. If you don't like that, you can start your own forum. Club-S12 has always been run by one or two people, not by everyone who signs up. We're not a government. We provide a service and a forum for people to come to and chat.

And honestly, when I see someone whine about one person having to much power, yadda yadda yadda, it just sounds to me like they have no clue about the nature of people or communities or management of large operations. People like that often remind me of the many bosses I've had in the past who didn't know dick squat about running a company, but for whatever godforsaken reason they ended up in a position to screw things up.

I'm VERY aware of the balances needed here. I sacrifice things for it all the time. Not everything I do is seen. Nor should it be. Again, and in final, if you don't like this forum, you are not forced to post here or even lurk. Nobody is twisting your arm.

Honestly, there are only a few people who truly whine about this kind of shit, and it's usually the same people over the years.

Indy definitely was a lot more relaxed on enforcing smaller rules then you are. I guess a good example would be if Indy was a police officer and saw someone jaywalking he wouldn't really care compared to your approach as a police officer of telling at him to use the crosswalk followed by a fine. You do make a good point about the fact that cs12 is privately and not publicly owned. My point about wanting things to be more democratic is pretty null and void with that being the case. I guess I was just always under the impression that cs12 was owned by the members. That is definitely something I wasn't aware of before I made my second post so I apologize for that considering the circumstances.

Maybe arro knows that frequent jaywalk by some people lead to the next and then the next and that he has to prevent this before it goes out of hand. Unfortunately the internet is too anonymious(except in some cases, like when some people here know eachother outside cs12) and that makes it easier to post random crap and just behave unresponsible. This you cannot do in real life because it has consequences but many people think it's different on internet communities and what arro states is that this is nothing different(Or that's how I understand it).

Praizewood basically has it right. Indy and Westside both stopped logging on... their lives got very busy with family, work, and other things. For awhile there, us moderators were wondering if they just abandoned us. This was for quite awhile. In that time, things went wild a few times. Basically I'm a lot more hands-on. I have the time. I don't have kids or a wife yet, and I keep close tabs on things. I might step away for a week or so, but I know that some of the other mods and Colin are more than capable of doing pretty much what I would have done. Colin for one thing has handled some issues recently and I wasn't even a part of it really. So really I'm not the only one here who is trying to clean things up.

The club is not what it used to be five years ago. Our level of information is far greater than it ever was before.

ArroThe club is not what it used to be five years ago. Our level of information is far greater than it ever was before.

Because  of this statement, the moderation team is enforcing the location rule indefinitely. Some of you who have been warned definitely know better, and if I see multiple warnings for the same thing on the same people, I'm going to start issuing temp bans. Putting the location in the title is a serious thing, as we are an international community.
ArroNov 23, 2009, 6:35 pm · #13

Some of you are being lazy about this, just slapping the locations in the back of the title or worse, just a city name without bothering to mention if it's in Cali or not.

So the moderators are now expected to crack the whip on these. It needs to be in the front, and it needs to AT LEAST have the American State in it OR the country. If it's in Australia or Canada it needs MORE... the region followed by "Aus" or "Can". I expect these things from USA, Canada and Australia because like the United States, they are large enough to justify it.

Also, please use BRACKETS. I want this place to look clean, not like a free-for-all. If you do not know what I bracket is, DON'T POST ads for sale here.

Warnings and more can and will be issued for failing to comply.

Nick_WNov 23, 2009, 6:44 pm · #14

Are prices required in craiglist posts too?

It's easy enough i'm just curious

ArroNov 23, 2009, 6:47 pm · #15

Nope, if someone takes the time to click into a thread here for more info (such as price), the they can take the time to click the link to
craigslist, too.

The title rules are purely to make easy the browsing of lots of threads by someone.

Nick_WNov 23, 2009, 6:55 pm · #16

Ok i just wanted this to be clear.  So what you said below is purely IN the post.

Imo, this is a great forum and Arro, you are doing just fine the way things are.

I came here just to find some info on my car and then decided to joined based on how everyone communicates and SHARES information on their experiences without having to be biased on what they believe is the best setup. Everyone DOES have the right to their own opinions, but it's just that, their opinions.

All I've ever found here is plenty of info on a car I've barely heard about but wanted to own and had the luck of finding one. All of the work that has been done to my car has been because this forum exists. I know enough about cars to work on them myself but I'm not knowledgable enough to know the specifics of what can be done. KAES TB on a VG30? 90 maxixa alternator fits right in? Z31 wires fit, though a little tight? MSD ingnition. The different options I could take to get rid of my clutch fan for eletric. I'm a novice of s12 but not of cars. And everyone who has posted on my thread has been critically but right. How are we gonna know if what we are doing is correct if our mentors don't say something about it?

This is the first RWD car I've owned out of 9 cars. Having a motor I can actually work on is nice but its waaaaay different to what I'm used to. Like I said, this site has been nothing but informative and insightful for all that I have done and plan on doing. I believe that the car we own is an unrecognize gem that everyone would rather get rid of in favor of something more popular like (I mean no offenise, they are great cars) s13, any Z model or something made popular due to a TV series (I would love to own a ae86 anyways).

To me,this place is like a school. I have questions and people who are experience answer my questions. We socialize and have fun. There ramapant drunken postings, but hey, we can have fun.

This is a community of s12 owners and lovers of an unnappricated car and we're damn determined to get exactly what we want out of our cars, be it slidin the corners or straight lining and showing those our power.

So, Arro, keep what doin what you are doin. As far as I can see, the "few members" that are active are the ones who are here to both learn and teach. And about those inactive members, who cares? They joined for a reason, who cares whether or not if they post.

I'm not on here posting every 2 days, but that doesn't make me useless. Sometime, it helps when a member tries something suggested and says," hey guys, I did it and it works!"

In japanese style, I bow to you Arro. Just because some may not like doesn't mean you are doing a good job.

ArroNov 24, 2009, 7:40 pm · #18

I hate to rain on your parade (for me lol) but you're posting waaaay off-topic and that should have been in its own thread in this forum section. I appreciate the praise, but please keep this thread a discussion about "Wanted to sell" post rules.

Sorry, this is who I am and why things work here like you say they do.
