KA swap under way! Day one photos!
Old Motor. Ca20E coming out tomorrow.
KA24DE Coming out, Well.. It's out now!
Pulling motor
I'm tired. No sleep and two classes today, before engine ripping. Plus a storm blew over and I had to rush tie everything in the world down.
Engines Pulled.
As she sits!
Day 2, Tomorrow. Make motor mounts (poly filled), Pull Ca20E.
Any next step hints are VERY appreciated!

Jay's Garage.. Did somebody say snow?
good progress.
lol nvm edit wrong person
lots of pics ask bunch of questions this is awesomeness ka swap is so great
This is the progress as of today. Was a pretty slow day as I really did not feel like doing anything really fast. So it was a lot of the tidying and making crap ready to just bolt up and go.
CA20E OUT! It's about time!!!
And there it sits. I could swear that it was only about.. ohh.. 7 months ago that I dropped this in.. Oh well. Who cares

Shifter Hole
This is the BIG kicker. I'm super glad that I pulled this out when I did. It wasn't making ANY noise. Which, Is a damn miracle.
I mean damn, look at this.

Tranny mount IS fabbed up. But I'll snap pictures tomorrow.
Oh, And I also Poly-filled the motor mounts at noon. Sitting over a Field light right now baking. At a nice constant 90 degrees. Should be cured by the time I drop the KA in tomorrow!
please clean teh engine bay! lol. i dont know if your doing anything with the ka but id change the oil pan gasket. thats a very common place for them to leak and its a pain when its in. id do the intake mani gasket at the same time too for ease of installation.
get your sotter ready and have some spare wires ready. theres really not much work getting the engine in, its pretty straight foward. the wiring for some seems to be the problem.
if you have anymore questions, just ask away dude. i see you have a fsm, nice:) thats should help you some.

^Thanks for the advice man, Oil pan gasket already changed, along with exhaust gaskets and Transmission Rear seal. The ones that are very recommended to do.
I Have 25 feet of trailer 4 wire. And 2 male with 2 female connectors. Plus a few male and female nissan plugs floatin around to make it look nice and clean. As for the engine bay? Yes, I am trying. But It's raining outside and I can't pressure wash it in that. Plus it's cold so it would never dry enough for me to paint it. So yeah. Yee Ha.
-Running to get more break cleaner and carb cleaner right now to help clean out the bay.
IT RUNS!
But, No tach, No, Coolant (so don't know if temp sensors work), And no alternator chargy
BUT!
Lots of strange things today!

This damned oil filter was cranked on so hard, I ended up crushing it.. Then shredding it... Then getting severely pissed off at it and torching it with mapp gas, and ripping it apart, and torching it more, and beating the shit out of it with a hammer from underneath in order to get it to come loose from the block and actually come out...
Whoever put it on was really really fucking stupid.
/Vulgar rant. Because it was that bad.

And, It starting! The super strange part about this. Is the ECU started hissing, and smoking and popped.. Definately fried teh ecu right? No, We'd all be wrong in that assumption, because it runs. And started 3 seconds after all of that ecu commotion
Vid
I feel all sad... 130 some odd views, and two responses. Am I just annoying or something?
Well here are pictures. It runs, It drives, And I love the torque. A Lot

Long story short, Car needs now:
Seats
Shocks
Springs
Wheels
And then, after all that, Paint.
I realize the car's a little rough. But that's okay for now. And the zipties holding up my radiator fans are temporary too. I just don't see an easy way to fab that little bracket up right now. It won't be that complex. But I'm just needing to sell more parts to make mo money
Oh and yeah. Mk II hoods do fit Mk I's... as shown above
The car is looking pretty sweet. I need to start doing cool stuff to my car.
Wow. I like the black and white a lot.
win win win win win
!
ka's belong in s12's
how much cash have you spent on the swap
JayI feel all sad... 130 some odd views, and two responses. Am I just annoying or something?dont worry, we're a bunch of lurkers
way to go with the dual cam
I see you cut the tranny tunnel for the shifter and your still using the center console. does the shifter boot on the original console fit like it did with the ca20e?

The boot does! What I did, Which I should have snapped a pic of, was cut it into the same shape as the stock hole, and welded a small peice of sheet metal into the front part, and it slid right in (well, Kinda, you know) and is blocking the rest of the world from inside of the car
Advice about it. SHORT THROW!!!! My swap luckily came with a retarded amount of stuff. My shifter does NOT hit my e-brake handle, so no relocation needed.
List it came with:
Fidanza flywheel, with an XTD six puck clutch (Which I LOVE! My max has the same clutch in it, and has for 4 years now. Value? Bout 350 to 400 right there, and something I was going to do, until I popped apart the tranny and saw the exact setup I wanted.
Cheap short throw, but works great. prolly 50 bux.
Walhbro 255 (which I'll figure out later)
Warm air, not stock ducting. (VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) Makes life much easier.
Modifications I did, some required, some not:
Trans mount slotting,
Poly filled motor mounts and trans mount - Ultra fast windo-weld ($15 at the zone)
tunnel cutting
Firewall holes for ecu, which is in the glovebox FTW
Trailer wiring works excellent for the jumpers.
Bent the firewall in on the drivers side slightly so the EGR tube wouldn't rub it. It felt wierd having that hit driving down the road. and the black paint made it very obvious that was what was hitting.
Drilled holes into the shock tower for coil, and moved relays to individual screws for each where the stock air box was..
Altima dual fans, Using an old sentra fan swtich, and a 6 dollar relay from advance for foglights. perfect automatic cooling setup. One fan controlled by that which is sufficient for cooling. and another relayed switch inside the car for the other fan for constant running on track days.
The Flat hood needed to have the braces underneath cut for the engine to fit (I think the poly mounts make it sit higher), but the bulge hood fit perfect. I just lifted it with washers because my tunnel got really hot. That solved that problem.
Just grounded out the fuel pump, so no messing around with relays. Which takes several wires out of the how-to's diagram.
Hybrid shaft (SRA)
OIL PRESSURE SENDER! Goes in damn perfect I'll tell you
I yanked the whole ECU harness (old one and new one) With pulling the motor. Made for MUCH less headache. Highly recommended to just disconnect the ecu, and shove the harness through the firewall on the 240 to pull it out. And to take off the inner fender well on the 200, and yank THAT whole harness too. I can't stress how much easier that made my life.
Heat core is RIGHT by the egr, I just looped the hoses together, But I found a part at the zone for 10 bucks that I will put up if that works for keeping heat in your car (it's 38 outside, and I have no damn heat)
Used the stock 200's clutch slave. Works great
Grounded the shit out of the engine. See pics. 8 guage wire, and 6 of em.
Power steering pump has a tube on it for the 240's lines. Turn that tube 90 degrees and ours bolts right on that tube. So I have power steering.
I think thats about it.
The WHOLE swap cost me 700 out of pocket, including buying the car. Which I have made 250 back on in selling spare parts off of it. I sold the pedal assembly, clutch master, and slave. So right now it sits at 450, and saved 250 for my suspension, with a lot to go on ebay. Including the very nice money maker speed sensor.
The black and white "panda" setup does look really good. It's just horribly painted on my car. I was very drunk, had no tape. and did it at midnight with a light on the front of a shed. Considering that I used a newspaper and 97 cent rattlecans, I didn't do too bad. I really like it too, But I was thinking single stage flat black (Hot rod and rat rod style) with a red stripe going up the car. Which I should photoshop onto this. Because in my head it looks good, but is very hard to describe. And it would be such a simple paint job. Cheap, and very recreateable.
Exhaust setup:
Stock manifold and downpipes. to 2.5" thrush glasspack (non-louvered) to 2.5 all the way back to a 2.5" in generic can. So it's ALL 2.5, and very throaty. This video does NOT do it any justice.
Exhaust sound
Pardon the really awkward revving. It's the girl doin it. And I could barely hold the camera. Ill make a better sounding one tomorrow.
Check it!
Total wrenching hours, including fabbing parts. 38 hours from first motor pull (240) to driving to the exhaust shop.
i like it but is your shifter in backwards, did it come that way, i have mine with the bend faceing back and i like that, but yours looks off, may be spin it and you won't need the short shifter right away.

I didn't think of that. But if it was turned 180 I would think that it would hit the e-brake. I'm 5'6", so I didn't even have to lean forward for 5th on the B trans. hehe. I like it this way, Very comfy to drive.
Well, Getting painted most likely tomorrow. I've been experimenting with some paints, and some stencils I designed. Should look pretty sharp once I finish her up. I'll keep ya posted.
looks good can't wait to do my ka-t swap
thank god! haha jay, just messing with you. Hurry it up, I've got most weekdays off. let me know when you wanna bring tires down and have a pseudo S12 meet, I wanna try to plan it so we can get Matt down here too.

Sweetness. You should see what I have rockin for a hood pinstiping. I'm drawing them up in cad right now.
NISSAN
And working on the same thing that says DATSUN right now. Dunno which I'll choose. Everything is getting rattlecanned. and the other stencils that aren't the nissan or datsun pinstriping, will be done street art style. I'm hoping to god it turns out well. just gonna take all the time in the world.
The nissan and datsun look so 80's tastic
But now that I just grabbed my Service manual... it's off by quite a bit. REDO!!!
Honestly, to keep this car's cheapness and motif, It couldn't get an actual spray job. everything about this car is meant to be cheap.
EDIT! Just finished the DATSUN stencil.
DATSUN
Grabbed my front coils!!! Muahaha!
Slip n Slide on 10:08:26 PM / 28-Jan-13lol Did you leave the s12 under there?
Oh no no no. The S12 is under here.

oh yeah, forgot that you got it stuck on the way to moving it back there hahaha
Lol I was wondering where our snow went.. usually we get much more than this year.
Now I know.. Jay's yard!
Hah wow jay
I am beginning to see why houses are so cheap in Michigan. Not only are most of the factory jobs gone but your snowed in 6 months outta the year. It hasn't even snowed here yet and with February right around the corner it likely won't this winter. Just the usual rain.
Mid march update.
She's under there, somewhere.
Also.
LOL and I'm rototilling my garden already
Wow its sunny and 80 here lol sorry jay....
Good Lord, snow blows my mind.
Damn, I'm glad I live in the south. Slept with the windows open last night. Need to hurry up and get some 'maters in the ground before I run out of time :)
I love the snow but not that much lol
At this point, I would rather have that, instead of this snow, thaw, freeze, snow some more, thaw a little, freeze, thaw, freeze, snow, snow, snow, thaw, freeze, freeze, freeze.
I'm sick of it.
