So Sterling and I picked up his new "prize" lol... a 1985 CA20E automatic hatch. $300 bux. I dunno if he's posted about it yet, but if not, here's a thread for it.
We tossed some names around, but in the aftermath of my hallucinations (I was sick w/ flu), I came up with this name, because of the 80's-tastic rack on the top that begs for a longboard. The rack stays, he says.
Anyways I don't want to get into it too much, it's his car not mine, but I took the pics on my phone, so here they are. I tried for 10 minutes to hose this bitch off, but some of this crud is gonna take some serious elbow grease. Maybe even some craZy hi-tech nanomachines to get it clean, I dunno.

The hellhole it sat in for over 2 years:
More like a tomb.

102k miles, expect good things to come from this!
well is looks to be in good complete shape, that's a good thing do i smell a future swap job in the works?
thats got some potential...
..after hazmat clears it
Serious about the hazmat. Why did you get ANOTHER S12. You havent even finished yours! Both of you! Trust me, you only want one at a time. lol I've been there and done that! But then again, I had like 4 going on at one time.
get some prep-wipe paint solvent. it removes everything except the paint. anything that removes grease, wax or silicone will get that off.
something exactly like this....

Sorry J, couldn't resist
Well, tell me when you have a total of 5. Then you can be my status. That would be CA20E, RB20DET, CA18ET, CA20E and CA18DET.
Um, how could you possibly forget VG30E in that list, hmmm?
Come on, slap your forehead. We're waiting

And I've owned more s12's than you just not at one time....haha
oh and the battery is the best looking thing on that car haha congrats sterling for saving another one...I just need a notch and a vg and I'll be happy with every trim s12 haha
so is this the canidate for the truck conversion????lol

Actually you're right. Make that 6 at one time. I had the auto SE.

Dang. So close. I guess I'll just have to grab another one or two.
do it! I know I will if I can find an auto vg that'll be another one Kendra wants an s12 and she fell in love with this vg at this guys shop but I didn't have the money right then so we had to pass it up...
so there will be another added to the collection when I can find a nice vg
The SEs are nice. From what I can recall I've had 2 manuals and 1 auto.
Jason, you are right, the battery is almost new! haha
Well, its raining like fuckn hell here, so I pulled it out and got drenched but its nice and clean now! at least on the outside, LOL I used a windshield washer/squeege combo thing like are at the gas stations on the pumps, I found it in the hatch, to scrub it down which worked pretty well but I fucked the scrubber up good! Then I used a bucket and scooped water out of the center channel in the parking lot to help rinse it down! I would take pics, but... its fuckn raining like hell, lol. Much better than before... It has sat for at least 5 years, and it shows. The 2002 looney toons calender in the back was pretty tight, as well as the 4 or 5 floor mats on the pass side.
The reason I grabbed this is pretty simple, the notch is a decent amount of work from being cali register-able, and I wanted a hatch for moving larger things, and an auto for shitty traffic/occasional commuting, and just to have a spare. Its kinda nice to have two of the same cars. Nothing major will happen to this car for some time, just a full tune up and maintenance, its actually in fairly good shape, just needs cleaning/refreshening. I think a full set of Konis, a mod_mastaz coilover conversion for the rear and weld-over sleeves for the front, but only 150lb springs, and a SOLID slam will be in the works, BUT...
Expect the CA20,
and the AUTO,
to stay!
haha
don't expect either to be stock tho!
Nothing like that for awhile tho, so lets not get too crazy out there i hadn't even intended on starting a build thread, but someone couldn't contain themselves
btw, does anyone know of anybody that builds/has parts/info for built Nissan automatic transmissions??
oh, and I think the interior will be gone, but thats sort of a forgone conclusion haha
200sxkitcari have a spare s13 auto tranny you can have if you pick it up. has everything and only 137k. drove and shifted nice. i dont know if you can use it but its up for grabs.

yEah that;s just uber-hick. no thanks.
ugh, but youve never seen one in person, as hung, sterling and i can agree on, we have... lol
you cant get a s10 or colorado tho with a skyline drivetrain...so this is ideal lolz.
I dig the truck! Its still a skyline, therefore relatively sexy and uuber fast.
Regardless, this likely won't become the truck. I want a fucked up S12 for that, and this car is actually quite straight. A truck will be in the future...
Joe, thanks for the offer on the trans, I've actually got a SUPER SWEET hookup with one of the local members whom I'm picking up a super lo mi auto trans from, and that will probably go in, the current one will come out, and I'll play with that one. The original one is actually in good shape, it was low on fluid and initially wouldn't go into gear, so I'm going to change the filter and have it flushed, should work out nicely. The fluid is still decent, this car appears to have been taken care of during its life... and even then, again its only got 102k on the clock, not bad at all.
the underside of this car makes my notch want to cry! sooo clean
For built auto trans, goto Level 10. I hear they do great work and build near indestructible auto trans. So far I've only had Nissan guys talk about them, more so on the Maxima forums and some on Nicoclub. Good find Sterling!
What I want,
what I really really want,
is an auto trans with a manual valve body.
I think it would be SWEET
dunno if anyone has done that tho. I will check out this Level 10 place...
Here's a good read if you're thinking of something crazy. It's for a 240sx, but it'll still work for us haha.

Dear Sterling,
I hate you.

Why can't I see my post on the last page with the Skyline truck?
Was it deleted?

You talking about the one you posted a pic in? I see that one. If you posted another one not a clue and no one has deleted it.
Yeah, it was in this thread at first, but appears to have been moved to its own thread.
ohh, Alex, wheres the love? lol
Jason split the truck thing into another thread in coffee shop.
mod_mastazThat's pretty cool, but really in the end, it's still a sloppy slushy automatic... Though it might not be too bad with higher light pressure and uprated clutches.

What makes an automatic "slushy" are the shift plates... I don't fully understand planetary automatic transmissions, but i know you can change the shift feel.
Its actually all about hydraulic pressure in the unit, and how quickly the fluid moves thru the valve body, more than the discs. I'd likely keep the same type discs just mod the valve body so the pressure is slightly higher and the engagement more firm.
you can mod an auto trans so that it shifts so hard it puts you in the back seat, but I'm not going to get that nuts with it obviously. Its more finding the info on how to do these mods, I can look at the hydraulic system diagram and understand the movement of fluid thru the system and mod as needed, just as you would an electrical diagram (only more complex) but I'd rather find someone/info if its been done before and how. I believe that the auto trans in an S12 and later S-chassis are virtually the same, with the S12 being more hydraulic (simpler, often easier to mod) so much should carry thru.
So the car has had an overheating problem since we first started it, never actually overheated but the needle has been creeping up too high. Today while cleaning I discovered after a short drive around the apartment parking lot that when the engine is getting to the too-hot point that the upper radiator hose is still completely cold- the thermostat is stuck shut. So tomorrow before the car goes into storage I'm going to throw in a new t-stat and then it should be not too bad!

I don't know how different the Nissan transmissions are from other manufacturers, but that's what the shift plate does, it essentially directs the flow of the fluid, and modifying the plate's design modifies the delivery. Shift plates go over the top of this:

I'd actually be curious to see what a RMVB was like on this... I know you mentioned it before. Chrysler guys do it. It's not for me, but it would be fun sometimes.
Usually its just a modified valve body vs another added component, it varies highly based on manufacturer. Nissan is fairly conventional, Chrysler trans design can be quite 'different' altogether.
because half of the chrysler engineers are weetahded
washed
Still cleaning it, it needs it badly lol
Hey Sterling, you jacked Arro's parking spot. I know so cause he parked his Neon there last time I was down! Man, some guest you are. Now, we just need your other one there Sterling and mine. Mmmmmmm maybe in 9 months?
I forgot how sexy a stock mk1 hatch looks.

shes fucking hot!
Sterling is it actually running?
