Just some thoughts pourin out here
-----
the s12 vs evo x thread shit was fuckin rediculous. I mean seriously. Arro I met you in person and you're a cool cat but IMO you shoulda closed the thread BEFORE getting involved in the arguement with Julie and NOT AFTER. I was hoping to talk street racing with peeps but the whole thread went to shit and so i just put in my little on topic thought and bounced outta there.
Some people dont get along and I think its best that those peeps just play nice and avoid each other.
-----
Post a pic of yourself thread... WTF seriously? Enough is enough. I can't even look at that thread anymore.
-----
The prius thread is just fuckin annoying.
-----
Anyway yeah thats all i can think of right now.

Threads Getting Out Of Control Lately
Ehhh I've been lax about locking threads since a couple months ago people whined I was too by the book. No offense, but basically you're asking me to see things the way I did before. I'm inclined to agree with you, honestly, and I've given this some thought today. Hence why I eventually did lock that thread, and why last night I deleted a bunch of posts in the post your picture of yourself thread.
My own personal opinions of the way certain people conduct themselves on here is just that -- my opinion. As much as they are free to xpress theirs, I am free to express mine, so long as I don't get inappropriate with the contents. I admit that I've personally provoked some of those discussions, but I've been known to do that from time to time. And in some respects, while your preference for a laid back approach here is prefered, sometimes things do need to be said of others out loud. Of course, there is a limit to that, and that's what the moderators (including myself) have to determine. Where to draw the line. I won't always draw it where you will like it, or I may satisfy you and others may feel I was premature. As with all moderation, it's a give and take.
As far as the Prius thread goes, you might be annoyed that it was long, but on every page are very detailed points of debate on both sides of the equation, so while you may have considered it bickering back and forth, I actually consider that thread to be how things should be handled more often. Things got a little warm in that thread but cooler heads and discussion prevailed.
Your points are noted tho... I think now that people have seen me operate at both ends of the spectrum, they will be better able to see why I may take certain actions in the future.
Of course, in this I speak only for myself; In cases of more major incident, the moderators all cone to decisions together, as is appropriate.
i just loled in my pants over the evo thread
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)
if a thread bothers you that much just dont click on it again?
ehh, it has to do with all the back and forth thats going on, a lot of people seem to have the need to have the last word, or when there opinion or idea gets challenged they take it as a personal attack on their character and become defensive, and the thread falls into a downward spiral. Everyone has strong opinions and can be passionate about those opinions. Sometimes to the point that it causes a thread to get locked, because two opposing opinions can't find a middle-ground.
However I don't think a thread should get locked the first time two people should go at it, that would only result in missed opportunities for people to learn something new or share ideas. To me that would be a greater crime. I didn't know all that stuff off the top of my head from the prius forum, a lot of it was the product of me going to several sites, double and triple cross referencing sources to make sure that I am not just posting bs from someone else. Suffice to say I learned a lot. If that thread got hosed early on, I wouldn't have had the urge to look all that stuff up and share it.
I can see where Iggy might be going with his frustrations and concerns. There is a level of decency here on this forum that you really don't find with a lot of other forums. I think he just doesn't want to see this forum degenerate to those levels. I can understand that, its some of reasons why I frequent this board more than my own FC forums because sad to say, the actions of quite a few people on the fc forums left a bitter taste in my mouth.
That all said, its not only the moderators job to keep everything from spinning out of control, we the community have play our part as well to keep order. They can't play babysitter to all of us, we're all big boys and girls here. If a fire gets too hot, all you have to do is stop throwing wood on it.
thats just my 2 cents
Well if it means anything to some of you, I just removed a post in this very thread that I felt was a bit over the top. I'm going to deal with the person directly about it, but that's my concern.
Pay attention to Wankel's LAST lines there... my comments in the Evo thread are because I was trying to give a big hint to one person, well, to everyone by example of that person really, that we need to be more respectful. I wasn't acting as a moderator there. As a moderator, I didn't intervene. As a club member, I spoke my mind in the hopes it would counter a concern I had.
For the most part, this place holds together decently, like Greg said.
whats the problem with the pic thread?
Some people have expressed to me privately, and now publicly, that the thread has too much banter and not enough pictures of members. I tend to agree, and I had to nuke one page of nothing but banter a few weeks ago because of it.
Others *may* have an issue with leg-humpers (this is no surprise to you), I think that because a few of them made comments as such in that same thread.
IMO, there *is* too much banter in that thread, but when it gets out of hand I'll clean it up like before.
i dont excatly approve of the leg humper comments myself, and at times it makes me not wanna post any pics. the last page or so of the thread has been questions about tattoos and such, so thats on topic.
the ideal situation would be to ONLY allow pics and delete any posts that dont contribute. let people ask questions in PM or something. i dont feel we need to have such a strick rule on a smaller site like this though, so its up to the staff on how they deal with it
I agree, but I think what is wanted by most members is the option to comment *minimally*, so I will just have to continue to make judgment calls.
arro did the other mods go on vacation and leave you in charge?
sorry if i missed that, but you seam to be dealing with evertything.
good job.

whats the problem with the pic thread?
it was becoming 4chan.....
but yeah as a whole your right Julie this is a relatively small site

dude you kinda irk me with that comment. I've seen 4chan, it's a fucking free-for-all. Calling this place 4chan is overdramatizing. And in insult to the club.
we do need more order on here (as far as threads go), but threads go offtopic all the time, and its not a big deal. its just the way cs12 operates, and its better since its a laid back feeling site, unlike alot of other sites where people will hound you for everything you post.
and 4chan is a joke. even comparing us to that childish bullshit is a straight insult to the entire community
More order will mean more whiners, so just be prepared for that. And it applies to everyone. *everyone*. Let me say it again, it will apply to *everyone*.
lol its like the same 10 members everyday, myself included clogging up this forum and talking bullshit.
well, i mean we should try to stay on topic with threads. if someone wants to discuss something else, make another thread. it doesnt take more then a minute to open a new topic...
Well, if someone suggests in PM to me that it should be split, we have the power to split threads and make entirely new ones out of selected posts from the original thread. I did that yesterday, actually.
What I think is important for a good experience on here:
- Respect
- Respect
- Staying on topic *most* of the time (nothing's perfect)
- Oh, and respect. If you don't like something or have a differing opinion, say so, but keep it laid back, and not abrasive. How we say it is 98% of how people will react.
Even I forget that sometimes, but I'm just as accountable as you all are.
Oh and 4 chan is hilarious... <<<(Example of how threads get sidetracked)
Well that's why I said "most of the time". I think a little bit of hijacking isn't the end of the world in a non-technical thread.
In a technical thread for S12 issues, things will be stricter and deviations less tolerated. Threads will get split more often, posts occasionally deleted, etc.
i think the comparison to 4chan was meant on how most threads veer off topic. 4chan is notorious for that.
Well it's still way off-base for this place.
And btw, just so everyone is clear... if a moderator says to stop doing something in a thread, and you do it... you're gonna get an account warning, possibly even a post ban for a period of time. There's absolutely no excuse for defying the decision of a moderator on here. You don't have to like the moderation decisions we make, and you can raise concerns about them in feedback (in a civil manner), but to go directly against the decision of a moderator is going to be considered a warnable offense at the very least. Period.

thats good
+1 wankelmonkey, i gotta say, the man has his head on straight. i realize its been quite a few posts, but i just got to read everything. i also think arro and julie have said the right stuff, and their little exchange is behind them. this is the very first forum i have ever participated in, and i love the exchange of ideas and opinions. its very refreshing to see individuals articulate their opinions so long as it doesnt get out of control. i have also seen a good example of taking things to far, and wondered if i personally posted things that may have contributed. its good to re-evaluate and will help direct future postings. and arro, im sure its a hard line to walk between being a moderator and a passionate member, thanks for the hard work (to all the mods) if it wasnt for you guys and gals, we wouldnt have this opportunity at all!
Threads on this site have always somewhat been all over the place. It is annoying when people post irrelevant things over and over again (Jeffwins is the king of this) but overall I would rather let people post these types of threads than not. Next thing you know we are a DSM forum where you get banned because you don't use proper grammar.

This is the internet 99 percent of things seem to be taken out of context and seem to be sarcastic it's gonna happen anysite you go to.
yea. i dont understand. i do feel like, there is only about 10 people active on these threads everyday lol
Srsly guys this thread was buried Since the 26th of March when Premo went drama himself, and should have stayed that way. I'm locking it purely because I sense drama factor.
i leave for a few weeks and you take a blow at me jason. uh, no. i dont think so. get bent. seriously..
thread is NOW locked.
It was misworded, I was getting at "fed up". I'm not perfect, sheesh.
