Okay, I'm going to keep everything in this thread.

Background: I bought this car from Andrew [Floodshark] on here, with 123k miles, a cold-idle problem that dissapeared after I drove it off his property, and a boost leak problem. I drove it, crashed it, fixed it, drove it some more. Then I took it to Drift Buffet back in Feb, where I learned that cars don't like clutch kicks at really really high RPMs. So the alt belt came off. I tried to put it back on and must have bent the bracket. Blah blah blah long story short the alt was going out. So I bought a used one from Ecoparts that turned out to be rancid diarehha. So I was going to buy a new one. But that was like $120 plus core-fuck that. I gave my freind the rest of the $500 I owed him (I already paid $350), for a KA24DE. This was a nice motor, but a PITFA to get. Seriously. And it didn't come with shit I was promised like ECU, harness, ETC. I had to buy that shit elsewhere. Fuck. So I bought quite possibly the shittiest engine hoist ever and went to pulling out the old CA shit. Big ups to Jason the fagmo for helping on the pull. Then I tried to put the motor in ,and realized this is what hell is like.

Today I was going to put the VC back on. Oh no, that wasn't going to happen. This is why:

So I bent that bitch out of the way, but it can go more. And it will

So I cleaned up the engine bay a little bit more, dragged my stereo sytem downstairs, cleaned up some of the old facory wiring, tried to figure out how to run the harness that HeatW, from here, made for me (Excellent work, BTW.Highly recommended).

Some other pictures I took today (After cleaning up, so it looks kinda junky everywhere)

lol looking good man, have you considered jacking up the tranny to align the engine more? (instead of having it lean against the firewall)

EternalSwapNov 18, 2007, 2:40 am · #3

Have you considered shutting the fuck up??

And yes, I just need to get my other jack back from my buddy. I need to get under there tomorrow [hopefully] to undo the stock driveshaft.

PS: Anyone know the size of their clutch fan bolts? The ones that acually hold the plastic fan onto the weird finned clutch unit. Haha, unit.

asparagusNov 18, 2007, 2:52 am · #4

Baby you know I cant do that.

deadpirateNov 18, 2007, 2:54 am · #5

+1... I keep using my buddies tools, but some time here... I'll be buying my own set and a set of those are first or second on the list... in addition to ratchets and a socket set and such.
EternalSwapNov 18, 2007, 12:55 pm · #8

I know it was a 10mm, but I mean the actual bolt size, not the head. And pitch. I lost them, and need to go buy new ones. IE M5*1.25x6mm

And I <3 my mess

ROFLMAO!!!! This is the best build thread EVAR!!! Now all it needs is cats!

EternalSwapNov 19, 2007, 4:58 pm · #11

No, no cats. Only pussy.

I'll be working on this who-re later today

EternalSwapNov 20, 2007, 1:46 am · #12

11/19:
Lets see, today I:
Jacked up the trans
Tried to figure out a fan shroud situation(What did other KA guys do?)
Put on the radiator hoses
Set up the intake
Made a mounting bracket for the intake
Put the fan back on
Listened to "Bleach" by Styles of Beyond (A good song)
Got bummed that the Rob Zombie/Ozzy concert got cancelled.

Anyway on with the pictures:
At the end of today:

Anyone know where this plug goes? It doesn't plug into the weird sensor on the intake box, but its still a 2-wire.

Anyone know where these rubber (vaccum?) lines go to? How about the second pipe on the intake?

And finally anyone know where the pipe nrxt to the sensor on the intake goes to?

Thanks

Wait.. Did you already get the wiring harness done for this? Your car looks like MK1..

If you figured out the wiring, wanna post up a diagram? I'd like to have a CA18DET, but it is easier and cheaper for me to get a KA24DE

worr20Nov 20, 2007, 10:11 am · #14

for the radiator. dont use the stock fan. its way too noisy. Im running altima fans that are screwed into the radiator. sorry I couldn't help on the wiring side, but i think you guys got it. good luck.

PremoNov 20, 2007, 10:44 am · #15

yea, its an mk1 (84).  and heatw did the wiring for him.  as for the fans, its a budget build dude.  alex, just come have a look at my 240 and save yourself lots-o-headache.   lol

EternalSwapNov 22, 2007, 12:24 am · #16

11/20 [Yes I realise it's almost 11/21, lol]
Lets see. I don't reall remember LOL
I cut the trans tunnel moar.
rounted the wiring a little better
Learned that shifters being forced into your side hurt
As do ebrakes
Made a bracket for the airbox
Found what wires do what in the column
Jacked the trans up.
Pulled the ebrake up more (You'll see why)
Struggled to remember where these two wires go LOL

Onto the peekchores:

I'm guessing this is the block ground?

And this the start signal? (Yellow wire colour couldn't be found in the FSM, though.) It's a 2-hole plug with only one insert, the yellow one. And it has taty funky boot on it.

tranny isnt high enoughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

EternalSwapNov 22, 2007, 12:33 am · #18

Tell Ross to get on the jack then.

TalkingGoatsNov 22, 2007, 7:32 am · #19

The yellow wire is your oil pressure sending unit.

Yes thats teh blocks ground.

Your tranny isnt high enough.

Empedocles99Nov 27, 2007, 3:58 pm · #20

This is why I do not want to take my engine out, even if it is slow.

EternalSwapNov 27, 2007, 4:57 pm · #21

Don't do it Chris!

But you probably have space to work on yours

That is true, 2 car garage that is dedicated to wrenching
floodsharkNov 28, 2007, 10:41 am · #23

My god

drftnassmofoNov 28, 2007, 3:18 pm · #24

why dont you just make some kinda bracket to slide the engine forward on the mounts an inch or so. that whould fix the vc hitting foirewall and your shifter would be where it is supposed to be.

PremoNov 28, 2007, 3:21 pm · #25

pound that mofo in, dont be a pussy..

lol dont make it sound so easy
rageDec 2, 2007, 9:40 pm · #27

mount the fucking tranny, or jack it up. you really only need like 3 wires to start the car, the start signal is on the KA ecu, it just richens it up so its easier to start, like choke on a 2stroke i guess

EternalSwapDec 22, 2007, 1:16 am · #28

Yeah, I've been working on it.

First thing, I jacked up that trans
posted image

Then I dealt with this bolt

to get out this crossmember that I slotted

all while working under this jackstand (yes, thats a wheel stud lol)

Then, I got bored and made this

The end

PremoDec 22, 2007, 2:48 am · #29

that bolt = the gay!  you will need to drill out and put in an insert for those stuffed up threads..  like 3 out of 4 are gone dude.  fastenal and mcmaster carr are good sources of inserts.  let me know when teh time comes and ill show you some good ones to use...and for the low cost of beer adn tacos ill even install em! LOL

EternalSwapDec 22, 2007, 5:35 pm · #30

"teh time" is like tonight dude. LOL

I don't have a drill, but I do have $125 in Sears gift Certs, I might go buy one. Or a fuckin sick jack. Or both.

EternalSwapJan 15, 2008, 1:08 am · #31

The trans crossmember should be bolted up tomorrow, I got it on the trans tonight. Gosh this is a lot firmer than factory
