Alright i am selling my RARE 83' Nissan Skyline DR30 RS-X Intercooled FJ20ET. The engine is ready for a US s12, the tranny bolts up but the engine mounts you have to fabricate the stock s12 ones. The engine comes with alot of extras and i am asking for everything is $2500 firm.

IPB Image

There is one pic of the engine in my car one thing that the engine is missing is the coil and ignitor but other then that everything else is there.

erik_200sxdriftMay 15, 2006, 4:40 am · #2

is that the one you got from ebay?

VEGIEMay 15, 2006, 11:16 am · #3

your not selling because of the lack of the coil are you?

i know there's some a-holes on the fj site you were on, but thats no reason to give up!

none of the service manuals list the hook up of the coils very well for the fj anyway. if you can source one i can check the wiring against mine...

Drft-s12May 15, 2006, 7:24 pm · #4

Well for the past month or so i have looking for the ignition transistor and had no luck so i figured if it is so hard to get that part imagine how hard it will be to find any other parts if something goes wrong. If i find the part i need then i will run the fj but if not i am going to buy a s14 sr20det. I wish i lived in Japan so i wouldnt have to worry about things like this, but thanks for the help. Im kind of thinking of keeping it because it is already in the car and is ready to run  , but we'll see what happens, peace.

I thought the Skyline FJ20ETs had an intake manifold that stuck out farther than the S12 ones and it would hit the inner fender in the engine bay...

The engine is from [url]www.Jhotimports.com and the description on the engine said 83' Nissan Skyline RS-X. When the engine was put in it, it fit perfect almost like factory and the intake manifold wasn't even a problem.

Dr30 skyline with the fj20et was an "RS2000", (I saw a couple when I lived in Japan). The s12 silvia/gazelle with the fj20et was an "RS-X". They probably made a mistake in the descreiption, I'd say you have an fj20et from an s12 silvia/gazelle RS-X.

gerrybgMay 17, 2006, 7:13 am · #8

Actually I just checked your pic again and I think it does have the skyline inlet manifold and valve cover. Your car is LHD so the brake master is in the opposite position to a rhd s12,(the R30 skyline manifold can't clear the brake master from memory in a RHD s12), so yeah it probably is from a DR30 skyline RS2000.

I have personally owned a DR30 RS-X.

Okay fair enough. The two cars I saw were both the 2 tone red and black coupes and had rs2000 stickers on the side or something.

VEGIEMay 17, 2006, 9:48 am · #11

i owned a dr30 fj20et 2000RS. 1983 model.

the rs-x dr30 was the later intercooled model of the dr30.
the rs-x s12 was put on all the fj20et cars.

your motor is a dr30 engine, from a non intercooled car, so id say its a 2000RS motor.

How do we know it is a non-intercooled engine?

The easiest way to check is via the exhaust housing but by the looks of it, it may not still have the factory turbo on it.

For those that do not know. The non-intercooled FJ20ET's have a .63 rear housing and the factory intercooled FJ20ET's have a .48 housing.

The photo shot was done after guy had bought the car from me.

The car is up for sale again. $15000 AUD would get this car.

You do not have to use the stock electronics. There is one affordable stand-alone EMS that will solve all your needs: megasuirt! MS1 with MSnS+E firmware will work (knock sensor ign. retard support), unless they have the new firmware for the MS2 system ready (MS2 last time I looked only allowed you to watch, but not use the knock sensor signal). You can use MS1 and then upgrade the ECU board to MS2 later.

As for the other parts, maybe you should contact www.datsun-freeway.com

I've some questions by this picture IPB Image

I've a LHD S12 with the FJ20E-engine and I bought an FJ20ET-engine from a I think a Japanese S12 RSX.

I'm wondering if the FJ20ET exhaustmanifold / turbo will hit the steering-rack because the Japanese S12 are RHD and my S12 is LHD!?

When I see this picture, I see an LHD S12?!?! with the FJ20ET-engine. The turbo is top-mounted, because of more power? or because the original mounted turbo, underneed the exhaust-manifold hit the steering-rack?

Anyone an idea what exhaust manifold this is?

I'll post some pictures of the FJ20ET soon. I'm planning to start the swap in July!

Cheers,
Kevin

This shop Garage Works did the swap and they used the stock manifold using a custom J pipe to make it a top mount and so the steering rack is not in the way.

Thank you!! Time for us to make some flanges for the J-pipe! cool.gif

What intercooler did you used? And can you send me some pictures of it?

We did a quick look for the FMIC options, but the headlights seemed to be a problem. So it will be the Volvo/Saab FMIC set up, to move the radiator a little bit backwords. Or maybe the Supra Intercooler on the front, but first we've to look if there's enough room for the piping.

Next week we'll start the project FJ20ET-swap and of course we'll get the members here up to date! smile.gif

I used a 600mm x 300mm x 100mm thick core size intercooler. I had to trim about 10mm off the over hang on the front of the chassis rails but wasn't any big deal. Didn't remove anything structural. I also had to move the air con condenser bottle back in the engine bay. I have put the Battery in the boot/Trunk and ran my intercooler pipes through where the standard air filter was and back up through the battery tray. The car still has air con. I used 3" intercooler pipes and used a 3" hole saw to cut the holes for the pipes.

Thanks!! Last weekend we disassembled the turbo!

We also saw that the clutch-disc is almost worn-out, are those still available at the Nissan-garage? If yes, do you have a part-number? If no, are there other options?

Cheers,

Kevin

Can someone tell me if the FJ20ET clutch matches FJ20E
I have found heavy duty FJ20ET clutch and they give it as 240 mm but the FJ20E is 225 mm....is there also difference in the flywheel ??

240DAVEMay 11, 2008, 4:49 pm · #24

I would like an FJ20ET for my s12 exept I have learned to stay away from j-hot and I would probably not give you anywhere near 2500 since it would have no warranty

silverarrow27May 11, 2008, 5:24 pm · #25

Looks like you had some coolant fun splashing fun lol

As for pricing...I thought it was a little steep when it's incomplete as well with no guarantee/warranty. Good luck with your sale though.

This post is about 2 years old. It is in the wrong place to start with. I'm just gonna close it down for now and move it since there is no need for continuation of any discussion on this.
