Well hello.. I found an 85 200sx that I am looking to buy and this forum looks nice. Uhhh lets see.. This 200sx (not to be rude to you that have really nice ones) is to be used as a winter beater car and a possible sleeper after that. I havent looked at the car yet and I really don't know too much about them. Its not the hatch style, it has the ca20e motor. Is it rwd? Is it carbed or FI? Is the wheel style the same as the 70-83 z (4-lugnut)?. What about turbo options? (block/head options) Reliabilty? MPG?

But yeah in closing, I'm pretty new to the 200sx world and don't know too much about them. But Im very knowledgeable in Datsuns.

Welcome. You've come to the right place. Soon you'll know way more about s12's than you really wanted to. icon_smile.gif (mods: I think we need a welcome to c-s12 smiley)

Rwd: Check
FI: Check
Wheels are 4x 114.4mm (bolt pattern, not four 114.4mm wheels.)
Turbos are good. So is the search button.
Reliabilty is good, provided the car has been taken care of minimally.
MPG: When I babied my turbo I could get 26 mpg, I'm guessing the 20e is a good bit better.

Anyway welcome to the club. How did the turbo conversion go with your z? Any good battle stories there?

Just to clarify, what bizzarro means is that yes, the car is RWD and has FI. he doesn't mean that you'll have to check.

The notchback is a CA20E, 2.0 liter SOHC four-cylinder. It's an 8-plug motor (two per cylinder), rated at 102 hp stock. It's a very reliable motor provided it has not been abused. The highest-mileage S12 we know of is a CA20E with approx. 485,000 original miles. Combined city/highway fuel economy of close to 30 mpg can be expected from a CA20E in good shape. They have been turboed, with mixed results. I know we had one member build a CA20ET and it blew in short oreder.
Replacement parts for this engine are not too difficult to come buy, the engine was also used in the Stanza.
Later on if you want to make it a sleeper, good engine swap options are CA18ET, CA18DET, or  FJ20ET

thanks for the replies!

On the Z, it started out being a nice 81 n/a with a 5-speed. I would run consistant high 15's with that. The turbo is nice, I swapped the L28et from a wrecked 82zxt that I bought for 150 bucks. I'm in college so I havent had much time for messing with the internals of this motor, just boost and all that cal. But so far I have yet to loose a race. (on the track of course). I keep the Z in my parents garage while I'm at college, because I dont want my baby to get the rust problem parked outside here

Where is here? We usually ask new members to add their location(city, state) to their profile, that way it shows up next to all their posts. Not only does it let members know when they live close enough together to help each other out in person, but it also helps get the right answers to your questions since the S12 came in several different configurations in various markets, and we've got regular posters here from all over the US, Canada, Australia, the U.K., Sweden, and other parts of Europe.
