i just aquired a brand new head for my ca18et.. so i will be port matching everything and also porting and polishing the int/ex myself.. i have been reading up on it and also got a few pointers form some pros and looks like its very doable our heads are very easy to port compared to a dohc......... i will alos mill off 1mm off the head to raise c/r a bit to help spool up the t28

i will take intensive pics of the whole process with alot of detailed before and after pics to show where i took stuff off...

Heh, I'm interested.

But I'll tell you now, there's just not a lot of material that can be removed for a port job. BUT ... the spare head I ported had a ton of casting flash (just left over aluminum slag) in the intake side. On the intake gasket side, you can really open it up ... pardon the craptacular picture, but if you look at your head, you'll get the drift.

the exhaust side really necks in and down, and can be opened up a fair bit too.

In the combustion chamber, I found there was a pretty brutal ridge right where the plugs come through, so that was smoothed out and polished.

Geoff ... the ca18et and ca20e use the same cylinder head. A ported/milled head could really help you NA guys make better power.

I polished out a head this summer and fitted along with a new turbo.
Like Mr 200 said the intake side just needed the casting ridges taking out and a bit of general tiding up. I just did the same sort of thing on the exhaust side too. I also made sure that all the ports on the head and manifolds matched the gaskets.
I wish I got some pics but I dont have a digi cam.
I also dont know how much difference it made to performance as I fitted it along with a brand new hybrid turbo. The car did get faster but I suspect the turbo had more to do with that than the polish job! icon_wink.gif

not as easy as one would think. I might have choose the hardest way to do it, but ill have the only CA20ET notchback that ill know of. a FULL wiring harness transplant is needed. from front to back + all the turbo components + an engine rebuild is probally essential.

if you wind up with a legend you'll be happy. I'd love to turbocharge/intercool/dohc my CA20, but it's just not worth it in time or money. It would be cheaper to drop a VG30DETT in there, however not practical at all.
