get a machine shop to thread a stock shock body, steal a threaded spring perch off a honda car and use it on the front for corner weight adjusting/ adjustable lowering.
dont forget to remove the stock spring perch too.
and in the rear we could use a kyb agx shock(i know they dont have a application but there is one with same travel and length as ours) and then use a coilover in the rear. i know the agx will work becuase after putting kyb gr2 shocks in my car i kepy my old shocks at the shop to compare with other when we get to do a lowering or install customer provided perfomance shocks.
the agx is adjustable and uses a coilover. i wonder if the subframe will support a spring in the stock rear shock mount?

Why not just buy Koni adjustables and Ground control coil-overs?

Yes this is a concern I have about throwing coilovers on the rear suspension. I don't know if this lower bracket on the control arm can support the spring too (normally the spring sits in farther towards the center on the control arm itself). If I remember right, though, there is a certain Infiniti (I30?) that has the same rear IRS suspension but has the spring over the shock (it is a MacPherson strut assly).

it can be done but might just need some reinforcement welded to the rear arm...

Sonar suspension actually uses Sonar technology to pick up rough surfaces in the road ahead and adjusts the suspension accordingly.

I know that they use the same technology, and that the 3rd Gen Maximas also had electronicly adjustable suspension on the GXEs. My Mitchell Ultramate program shows that M30 is only about $120 than the Maxima's Strut Assembly. And that the M30 uses replaceable strut inserts whereas the Max doesn't. The suspension design is also quite different. The Max uses an "A Arm" style lower control arm whereas the M30 uses a straight lower arm with a strut rod to support lateral movement.

Even if we could physically fit them in, and mount the sensors, I'm not sure if the electonics would work correctly. But the M30 front suspension did look similar to the S12.

eh, that's ok, you really don't want all that electronic sh*t anyhow, just set the thing to 'firm' and away you go... soft is for Grand Marquis owners lol

What a strange coincidence. I have an Infiniti M30 and an '85 200sx (CA20E) with IRS. If you guys want pics or anything, just let me know. Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera. But I'd be willing to take pics using my 35mm and scan them or borrow a friend's digicam. Also, my M30 has worn rear struts so I'd like to replace them (someday). I have autocrossed the Infiniti and it has lots of body roll, but that could also be due to the weight and the original suspension bushings which are probably very worn. Anyway, I'm here if you guys need further help with this project. =)

Would you recommend the M30? I'm thinking about buying my mom one for christmas. There's one for sale for $3300 with 56000 miles. Seems a little steep since I could get a Q45 for that. Has yours been pretty dependable?

riyanmDec 1, 2003, 4:39 pm · #28

mine has been very dependable. it has 186k on it now. it's been a family car and has not been maintained regularly until i got it. the belts have only been replaced ONCE and the oem plastic radiator has kept working until 175k miles. the automatic tranny went out around 172k miles. the original nissan water pump is still working great. i will warn you that it seems to like chewing up distributor caps and rotors though (cheap, easy replacement), and as with any vg30 engine make sure you keep aware of the fuel injector leaks. my m30 didn't have any injector leaks. maybe because they improved the injector design since the old vg30? that car sounds like a good deal to me, and if you can get it even cheaper then that would be great. it's powerful and fun to drive...

Thats good to hear. I'm not sure about this car because he still hasen't given me the vin #, and he dosen't have any repair documents. I'm assuming its had the 60000 mile service stuff done to it but if it hasen't.....I don't know. I'm gonna wait and try to talk him down.

riyanmDec 3, 2003, 8:52 pm · #30

the 60k service is his responsibility. if he didn't have a dealer breathing down his neck then i'm willing to bet that he forgot about it. the 60k costs between $600 and $800 so you should deduct that straight out of the car's value. you do not want to be driving around on the old timing belt since you will bend valves when it breaks.
