On-topic

I have noticed that there is a great deal of off-topic discussion in topic-specific threads. While some is okay, we have all gone beyond that, myself included. I was tryint to search for some past info and what should have been easy was a pain in the ass.

In an effort to curtail this, I will be locking threads in topic-specific areas that exhibit more than a few consecutive (one after the other) off-topic posts, unless Dan has any objections, in which case he or Chris can always UNlock it. UNlocking a thread might even be good later on as more people add information.

I just want to maintain a clean board early on before we get things too far. I have always actively moved threads to approriate forum locations when I see the need, and do what I can to keep the info on here easy to retrieve.

Of course, if I do end up locking a thread, you can PM any one of us and have it unlocked if you wanted to actually contribute on-topic information to that thread.

Please understand, I too am guilty of this, I saw many of my posts amongs you all in this.

Before I lock a thread I will warn that it return back to topic.

sounds like a pain in the ass to start PM just to post. I think most people will not bother posting
could some one not just delete off topic posted ??

I don't like to delete actual posts, it's just something we shy from when moderating forums (I moderate another forum somewhere else too), also it's difficult if the post has partial useful info. I might as well write ALL the posts if I did that.

No, I'd rather warn, then lock.

Didn't even think about it from that perspective I'll try to stay on topic but damn that's gonna be hard I am trying real hard to get my status up so I can be considered a member and just like chiming in every once in a while.
